What a shitty week

11am and I'm already lying on my sofa at home, something I try not to do as it's just sloppy imho.
20230518_112103.jpg

It's day five since I got a really bad bout of flu. Every day is a new day waking up to different symptons.

Day 1 Sunday - I started coughing a lot, I didn't realise it until late into the day and thought, maybe I'm unwell?

Day 2 Monday - I woke to the horror that I suddenly remembered it was my Pinmapple curation shift the previous night. I totally forgot about that. We aim to curate roughly every 24 hours so we get to all the posts before the golden curation window. A 12 hour delay mean some worthy content may not get as much support as they could. Not Ideal.

I started to get a bit of sore throat and stuffy nose and felt a quite shitty. No rest sadly, as I got 2kg of fresh mushrooms that needed to be batch cooked into mushroom soup before they go off. I spent the whole morning chopping, sweating, cooking and blending them and ended up with 10 portions. I was totally knackered in the afternoon.
20230518_121549.jpg

Then I realised we don't have any food at home coz we haven't gone shopping for a long time. We can hardly survive on just mushroom soup all the time.

I brain is so fluffy I can't even remember what I ate that evening.

Day 3 Tuesday - was tossing and turning coughing all night and didn't get out of bed till 10am. Still have no food at home for breakfast, food doesn't miraculously appear overnight by themselves. I managed to rummage a few biscuits from a tin I bought a while ago. What would we do without our King 👑 🙃
20230518_121059.jpg

I haven't left home for four days and figured I have to drag my lazy ass out to get some food. Mushroom soup and biscuits does not make an ideal meal especially when you are unwell. Also got some lemon and honey to make lemon honey drink for my flu which is getting worse. My stomach or diaphragm or somewhere around that part of the body starts to hurt when I cough now. Then I saw someone post an onion and honey remedy for cough on Hive and thought maybe I should try that. But I couldn't be bothered to chop any onions.

Day 4 Wednesday - I wish I did. The next morning I woke up even worse than the day before. The cough medicine I been taking was no use at all. As if coughing all night isn't bad enough, when you have a blocked nose and can't breathe, you can only breathe through your mouth. That means keeping your mouth open all night, getting a dry throat which exacerbates the cough.

On Day 4, I had an errand to run and had to drive 20 miles to get there. Balancing the importance of the errand and my condition, I decided to still go ahead. During the day, Nose couldn't make up it's mind whether it wanted to be runny or blocked and that's so annoying. I hate indecisive people, and organs, even if it's my own! I was sucking lozenges, and had tissues handy all the way to ensure a safe drive. When I got home at 10pm I was totally knackered. I think there are signs my flu is getting a bit better ( I shall spare you the symptons) but I'm still coughing a lot. I figured I'd get my act together and chop some onions make the honey thing.

Day 5 Thursday Throughout the night I was still coughing a lot, but when I woke up in the morning, Nose was normal. No blockage or runny nose 🥳. I was still coughing, and now everytime I coughed there was a shot of pain on the left abdomen. I checked some body anatomy diagrams from the internet and that's where the intestines are. Weird. Maybe the intestines are crying for attention because I been feeding it too much mushroom soup and biscuits.

It's taken me two hours to write this post coz Nose has started to misbehave again. I have boxes of tissues and water all within arm's reach around my sofa coz it's actually very comfortable to just plonk here, not move and feel sorry for myself.

11am + 2 hours = lunchtime. Help!!!!!!

That sounds horrible. Get well soon!

Thanks Steve!

That sounds like the perfect post to send a !HUG

Get well soon!

Thanks, appreciate it

Get well soon and simply take a good rest, it'll soon be over.

Looking forward to that day! Thanks

Flu is the worse, the discomfort it brings, get well soon.

Thanks so much

I can relate a bit cause i am having a flu currently.
get well soon

Hope you get well soon as well

Thanks so much

I used to make fresh garlic tea whenever I have a cough and colds, and so far, it has been effective. Get well soon Pauline @livinguktaiwan!

Thanks @kellyane I may try that tomorrow, I've finished all my medicine at home

That sucks. I am sorry things have been so rough for you! Hopefully you get feeling better soon. It's always bad when you are that sick but you still have stuff that just has to get done. You should try the combination of lemon juice, honey, cayenne, and apple cider vinegar for your cough. It works sometimes.

Cayenne? That's pepper, right? Sounds like serious stuff!!! I may have to try it tomorrow, not much sign of improvement today

Yeah, like red pepper flakes ground into a fine powder.

Rest , Food and a good movie is the best medicine 😂 With some antibiotics , cough medicine and nasal sprays. Wish you Get well soon!

I've finished by all the medicine I have at home, need to get more tomorrow. Maybe it is a good time to binge watch some movies since I'm not doing anything useful at the moment

Sorry to hear about it. I've only had the flu once in my life, but that knocked me out enough that I'm not thrilled about the possibility of ever repeating it. Get well soon!

You could try to Japanese solution to colds and flues - tamagozake (eggs and sake). I looked up a recipe for you (→here). It says for colds but people use it for flu too.

Thanks for the recipe. It sounds similar to eggnog. Hubby bought a couple bottles of sake recently, I'll see if he let's me open one of them

Hope you'll get well soon..it probably because of the weather you got cold? And lack of rest probably.. Maybe you just need more rest.. Water treatment is best for cold..

Now I wonder what time do you start curating pinmapple posts? I mean, the shift...😅..

Not sure were I caught it, don't think I've had it this bad for a long time.

I normally do my shift around midnight to 1am UK time, and it varies among the team as we're located around the world. But we try to keep it within a time frame

if you have rhinitis, then it was probably triggered by something and become cold..

Feel better, Pauline! I've been there last month. Right before Good Friday until the very end of April! Huhu It sucks especially when there are tons of errands to do both at home and work!

That's a long time, like two weeks!! And you have to work as well.

I'm just lying around at home feeling sorry for myself 😭😂

Sorry for the health challenge, I pray my you get well soon. You need to get more stronger drugs and also feed your self with something different that will make you look healthy. Have a peaceful day

It sounds like you've been attacked by a real nasty virus, don't be so hard on yourself and listen to your body, rest and lots of fluids! Masks, sanitizers and lockdown may have lessened being infected with Covid but it compromised our immune systems.
I'm sure the onion & honey remedy will help. But...I also swear by a cocktail of freshly crushed garlic and olive oil. Give one to your hubby as well otherwise he'll want to move to the spare room 😉
Hope you get better soon @livinguktaiwan 💞

I may try that tomorrow as I used up all the medicine at home, though the thought of downing olive oil doesn't sound very pleasant coz it lingers on the throat 😬

I'm so sorry you are feeling so shitty. What a horrid few days. Honey in tea really does help. I throw in lemon juice and chilli powder. It burns the fuck out of your throat but it helps.

Get some good food and lots of rest, hope you feel better soon.

Second suggestion qfor chilli! Looks like I need to try that. In fact I might chuck everything suggested in the comments here together, it's all organic, so it should be ok 😁

Sleeping with a stuffed nose while sick is the worst. I barely get any sleep and my mouth is always so dry. I hope you are able to get some rest and start to feel better. Being sick sucks.

Thanks, let's see how tonight goes. Been doing absolutely zero all day today about from sleeping

Sounds like a rough week! Get well soon!

I'd have to disagree with you - mushroom soup and biscuits make a great meal ! And clearly biscuits is the breakfast of kings !
Hope you start feeling better soon !

Tbh, it doesn't make any difference I think, I can't taste anything right now, not even the onion from the honey thing 😭

Well, no rest for the wicked miss! Get up!!! Be productive!!! The flu can wait for you, not the other way around!!

Get up!!

!PIZZA
!LUV

Laughs get well soon!!!!

Oh! You are so tough 😭😭😭

Actually I do think maybe lying around feeling sorry for myself makes things worse. Today seems to be worse than previous days as I've had nothing to take me mind off things

Im sowwy! But get up 😂

I have this idea in my head that if you act like you're not sick then you get better sooner.... But it's not a proven hypothesis 😂 although you get what you put out in the universe... So perhaps 😂🌌

Again, get well soon!

!PIZZA
!LUV

ow kay. I just gone out for a 5km run. No, of course I didn't!!!!

I've switched on my computer so that forces me to sit at the desk and not lie on the sofa, I think that's a good start 😉

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you get better soon. I advise you to drink plenty of fluids. For example, herbal teas will be good for you in this process.

Will do, thanks so much!

Sorry to hear that Living, hope you have a good rest and get better soon! Didn't know there were biscuits for the King's coronation, look nice!

Marketer's never let go of any opportunity to do special editions of food stuff. Think this all sold out before the coronation.

Thanks Donica

Hope you get well soon. Take care

Thanks you!!!

you´re welcome. I had it a few weeks back while in Thailand. Luckily withou coughing.

oh dear, it sucks when you're on holiday and are unwell. hopefully it didn't mess up your plans

oh it did mess up everything. as it was covid we had to cancel flights from koh samui to bangkok, cancel hotel in bangkok, cancel flight from bangkok to brisbane, cancel airbnb in australia and extend airbnb in koh samui :)

I hope you get better soon. Don't push yourself and have rest so that you recover and don't relapse.
The onion remedy may be effective, but I don't know if I would like to stay with the taste of onion, stuffy nose, and feeling sick;) I would tell you better to make a very strong ginger tea and add honey, some people add a clove of garlic too. And that soothes the throat. Take care!

The stuffy nose means I can't taste the onion, so it's not that bad. Garlic has been mentioned a few times, so I'll definitely try that as well. Thanks!

Get well soon!! I see Snowpea placed herself at a safe distance :D Sitting there, in the forest of aloe vera plants :))

Ha ha! Well spotted. She's hiding away with Mary over there 😀

Get well soon 🤗🤗
!HUG

Thanks Jackie!

You are welcome 😊

I believe you because I'm like that and I'm dying. I'm barely doing anything at La Colmena. But yesterday, I had I don't know... something and I wrote a poem and then I wanted to take a bath and you saw what happened to me, I ended up taking pictures. Anyone would say I'm fine but no, now the flu is coming out of my eyes and I made myself a chicken soup. I take remedies of guava leaves and ginger as if it were common water.... terrible.

... and is highly contagious. The coughing is the worst.

oh dear, it sounds very bad for you, hope you get better very soon

I agree the cough is the worse, as it stretches other parts of your body and that hurts, urghhh!!!

Get well soon too, but it lasts about 10 days. Lots of ginger and turmeric tea to drink.

😩

You have your house way too much in order by my standards lol. I remember having a flu-type thing some years ago and by the end I took a photo because in the space of about 3 days, my room transformed from 'not too shabby' (3 cats means its always a bit furry) to one of those horrifying extreme examples of a hoarder on a TV show, with about 7 rolls of used tissue paper overflowing the bin and covering the floor, delivery food bags all over the place, clothes scattered as if I was stabbed in the back while undressing.

When I'm sick, I make it a point to become a total wreck haha... forget curating and making mushroom soups!

Yuck!!! Now I can't get the image out of my brain!!!

A girl's gotta maintain her standards even when she's ill!!!!

Haha sorry XD

You have my sympathies, there seems to be a bug going around, my daughter has had similar recently, as has a couple of her students.

Soup always works chicken soup such a comfort food.

Be positive at least you are no longer a salary slave, worrying about letting the team down!!!

Get well soon x

Yup that's the best part as I don't have to call in sick or try to get a doctor's note to take a week off, or get on my PC to answer emails. I haven't switched on my PC for three days!!!

happy days !!!

That sucks, really! At the end of March I had a similar flu and spent ten days in bed, it was really awful and I hope that similar viruses will avoid me in the future. At that time I consoled myself with the saying that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger 🙃 Fingers crossed that you recover as soon as possible!

Now I got Kelly Clarkson signing in my head all the time!!!! 😀

Thanks for your kind words!

😀🎵🎶 Take care!

If he had been brave enough to prepare the onion with a thousand it would have calmed that annoying cough...but since he felt so bad he didn't have the strength to do it...those are the worst days of our lives when we are sick.
I wish you a speedy recovery

I've made the onion honey thing now and been taking some since yesterday. The cough seems to have improved, not sure if that helped or if it's part of natural recovery

Chicken soup always helps and it's easy to do. Just throw in some veggies and a little of pasta and you are good to go. Get well soon!!

Thanks, luckily I stocked up on some food, one less thing to be worried about, just got to cook it!

Ah no good! I was actually just listening to something today that said the reason we get sick is because our intestines get backed up and an enema will clear it out in a day or two. I’m not sure if I’m ready to give that a try.. but I applaud her spirit LOL.

What I eat like it’s my job when I’m not feeling good is garlic! Making a nice little combination of garlic, honey and turmeric with a little bit of cayenne does the trick really well. It helps on so many different levels and they are all really easy supplies to keep in the house for various things!

Hopefully at this point you’re feeling back to normal!

I'll pass on the enema thanks, but I have heard some people are quite a fan of it ☹️

I'll probably add garlic to my next batch of onion and honey syrup, double the dosage to kill off whatever is inside me 🗡

I can relate so well to this publication of yours.
Last week, I was pretty much hung over every day from a pretty bad cold I had the week before. I came back from vacation, and the same day I returned to work, as soon as I was there for about 3 hours, I felt a strange feeling... muscle aches, and extreme tiredness. After 3 days of anti-inflammatories, because I had a fever (although low, it bothered me a lot), the symptoms were relieving. It's impressive how the human body (or even the animal body) can react to aggression in such an exacerbated way. We are so well "programmed" that our body does everything to conserve energy... of course this takes all our attention and will to interact and be present! As I read this post of yours, I realized that since my primordial Hive days I have been subscribed to the C/Rant, Complain, Talk community but have yet to post anything there. Maybe this is a good opportunity, since I haven't had much time to take pictures and sit down to write a minimally interesting text!

Not Ideal.

It's amazing how willing and energetic you are to do what you've committed to, regardless of your constraints!

You are a true warrior!

Thank for you lovely comment @xrayman. Day 2 wasn't that bad I still had some energy in me. On the following days I had to swap my shifts with some of the other team members as I really wasn't up to curating anything.

Hopefully you're fully recovered now, your symptoms does not sound nice!!!

All of that already passe, now is the time to roll up our sleeves and make up for lost time 😅😉
