Think With Caffeine #76: Introduce Yourself

in Rant, Complain, Talk3 years ago

One of the most difficult questions according to me is "Can you please tell us about yourself?"

I asked the same question to my mom. I want to know what she would answer hoping I got different answer. Then she started saying " I am x years old. I am [insert occupation]. I live in[insert place of residency]. I am [Insert some basic personality]." Now after reading countless of introduction on Hive, I can deduce that almost everyone starts introducing themselves that way. Perhaps, that's the easiest way to make others aware of our presence and that's the easiest way to identify ourselves from others.

Then, I asked my mom. " can you describe yourself without mentioning your age, your place of residency, your basic personality, gender, sex, race, and hobby? ".

She paused.

" I don't know. I don't think I can. How do you want me to introduce myself?"

" Well, I mean you must have some sort of achievements, something you're working on,or something you're really passionate about. What motivates you, your life journey maybe?" I replied.

I find it cumbersome to introduce myself all over again while trying to find friends. I like to be in many places, in different places with different crowds that sometimes are not my regular crowds. Just a couple days ago, I signed up to BitCloud. There was this one guy who said he'd invest in me if I put a photo of myself and introduce myself. It shouldn't be too difficult isn't it?

To me, that was the hardest task that I knew. Even so, I find it really annoying that I have to introduce myself when I was only checking. When I first joined the previous chain, it took me two weeks to reveal just a bit more about myself.

This was my introduction when I was 20.

I love working and couldn't really see myself just laying around the room doing nothing. I speak several languages and aspire to become a polyglot in the future with flawless grammar and stuff.

I am also a lead vocalist in my faculty band and have been in choir for 6 months now. I love music and has always been. These days I am listening to all kind of EDM plus some indie band you probably never heard of. I also love to read,my favorite genre is classic.I don't really read popular literature and I hate having a class on that.

part from all of those work, I also run non profit independent project called " let's talk" which aims to help people dealing with mental health issues, especially depression. Also, with my family, we are running an advocacy firm which aims helping unfortunate people dealing with lawsuit. We also have established a public library for children in our hometown and has been going on for about two year. We believe that we should leave a legacy to society and our simple way is to provide free knowledge. I love doing social work and charity cause it's good helping people and It makes me feel grateful each time I see unfortunate ones. -Salut! Je m'appelle Cemy J'ai 20 ans This is my proper Introduction :D

You see... I attach myself with projects & work. Perhaps that's how I want to be identified with. I want to be identified with what I accomplished instead of my name, residency and my age.

But just recently, this is the current introduction I have. I took the chance to compile something for a server where I am the staff [moderator].

Name / Nickname : Mac
Hobbies: Books, Digital Art, Cooking, Buying Shitcoin, Brewing Coffee, Documentary, Visiting Cafes, Wasting money on arcade venues, Collecting rare PEPE meme, Cycling, Writing rants and share it online, Finding new hobbies
Interests: Blockchain, Nootropics, Computational Linguistic, programming, Languages, 3D printing, Minimalism, Cybersecurity, Weapons, Politics, Philosophy, Math, Neuroscience, Creative Writing, History, Gastronomy, Ancient Temple, Photography, Architecture, Interior design. I could go on and on but that's all for today.

Occupation: I'd like to classify myself as a NEET

About Me: I like to spend hours reading something and I enjoy learning new things because I am easily bored.

These day, I start to associate myself with my pseudonym. Even classifying myself as a NEET (Not in education, employment or training). While that isn't the truth, I find it hard to talk about what I do. Some old friends told me that my job is fascinating yet weird at the same time. Some of them even asked me what I normally do in a day. I always jokingly said, I wake up, login to my computer, read, eat and sleep.

Now that I want to apply to 9-5, I find it hard to actually navigate where my skills are fitting. My confidence shrinks as I think to myself that I barely have any skills. You know, jack of all trades, master of none. I suppose that's one of the ways one can describe me.

Still, I think I need to ask around about what's acceptable to introduce ourselves because my standard isn't something that involves age, race, name, and place of living. Or I can choose to accept that people simply introduce themselves that way and I have to follow through the conventional ways.

Haha, so myself. That's why I struggle to find a reg job here lol. I don't fit. I like to refer to myself as "I know a lot of everything and a whole lot of nothing". For some I'm the smartest, coolest thing, for others I'm a loser cause I don't have a straight way nor a plan what's next lol.

Well, I guess welcome to the club :D so how do you introduce yourself? what is your approach to that question?

Good question, this was my official intro to the Hive. I guess we live in a society where the typical questions are burned into our DNA. Working as a barkeeper you heard that a lot. How old, where you're from, what do you do? After answering you find yourself in a box.

Depending on the situation I react with humor. In a private setting that is fine, in a work environment many aren't humorous 😂

Well rounded is the best kind I think! Lots of different things we can do to survive and produce things. I enjoy having lots of different skills instead of one solitary thing I do. That's boring!

I would think too, even though being specialized isn't bad either, depending on the situation. But people should be able to lateral entry into any kind of job. In Germany that is almost impossible. Sucks for people like me lol.

It’s hard, that question to talk about yourself. I guess I’ve gotten better at it over time applying to many different jobs and going through recruiters and interviews. You kind of do a bit of self reflection to pull out pieces of information that they want to hear and at the same time doing a little identification of yourself. It doesn’t make it easy though lol. I know the struggle. It’s also a little annoying that companies want people who are focused in one section particular instead of rounded people. I wonder what has gone on with jobs to want such a shallow type of thing, I’ve noticed it recently with some of the interviews I’ve had.

Thanks for the tips! I suppose I've not been into too many jobs that involves strangers 😅 I normally get jobs from acquaintances and also friends so they roughly know my story and skills. That actually gives me another idea to apply for jobs shamelessly 😄

I didn't know this was actually a community 😅.

Hey @osaruese, this might be your spot.

When it comes to "introduce yourself" I always falter. It usually is the most difficult question for me, cos I find myself to be boring, possessing no talent of special skill, up until I started going for interviews, I realized I have to know what to say :), so I stick with the conventional, name, age, etc.

Did you ever get that lad to invest? :).

Ps: I still look forward to the photo book.

cos I find myself to be boring.

You know, if you dig deep enough, you'll find out that you're not boring at all. I mean, you can say you really love certain types of photography and you can mention what you like about it.

Also, yes that guy invested but sold the coins in the end because I didn't introduce myself properly with a sign saying I joined bitcloud.

I think you're right. :).

Hey thank you investor of shitcoins xd

It's so tiring hearing that question. You never know what part of you the person wants to know about

Exactly that! I am a bit in confusion but after reading all the replies here, I guess I can always pick whatever part I want 😄
