3AM, the devil's hour: is it?

It was 3am and my alarm came blaring that I woke up to read but sleep was very much in my eyes so I turned it off and went back to bed.

Few minutes after turning the alarm off, a terrifying thud was heard in my ceiling which jerked me fully awake. There had been lights out so I turned on the flash of my phone, very alert for anything that'd want to show up.

Never has any sound come from the ceiling no matter the time of the day nor would I think it was a rat because there was none in my house so I stayed up to see what could be in my ceiling that made such loud thud at such an hour of the day.

The whole drama really creeped me out because I had once seen a tik-tok that said 3am is the devil's time but then I don't believe he and I has anything in common for him to trespass at my house interrupting my sleep. As whatever was in my ceiling had it, I stayed up to see what more drama it had to display.

'Was it gonna break the ceiling and fall on my bed? Was it gonna keep hitting the roof and scaring the shit outta me?' Different Thoughts bubbled in my head but I was never going to sleep it off.

Thirty minutes after being up and going through different apps on my phone to avoid drifting off to bed again, some weird noises came from my bathroom as if things were falling from the roof to the floor.

I know sometimes natural noise does occur but was this natural? I tried hard to convince myself it was one of those noises that came from the wind doing its thing or noises from the pipe or prolly my old bathroom door trying to remind me it needed to be greased and while at my thoughts, another noise came again from outside and it was the loudest thud I could ever wish to hear.

"Oh, common! Can this get any worse?"

Terrified to the marrow, I slowly opened my door and flashed my lights outside. I was sure I was going to see this thing and warn it to never trespass at my house again because obviously it wasn't paying the rent with me and it was scaring the hell outta me.

I tiptoed to my backyard where the thud came from and I was welcomed by a very black cat with eyes that glowed in the dark.

A sudden chill swept over me and I felt my legs wobbling. I'm a cat lover but this one at the wee hours of the day sure was scary and I didn't want it around at all.

After the hypnotic chill left me, I wore the garment of courage and tried shooing it away. At first it didn't move but when I proved to it that I was serious and pretended to pick up my flip-flops, it scurried off crying like a baby then I looked up at my roof and I found and opening that could lead any crawling or four legged creature into my ceiling then it dawned on me that the cat was what made the first noise that got me up.

I am sure to contact a carpenter to fix the roof later in the day because I can't keep waking up to terror when I'm supposed to be sleeping plus I'll be sure if for real the "3 AM devil's hour" thing is true.

I am often awake during these hours which is odd haha but actually there are some scientific explanations to it as well as superstitions about this "witching" hours. Whichever that you subscribe, to me it's always an interesting hour to wake up to. The world is quieter and I generally have much clearer thoughts waking up in that hour.

but actually there are some scientific explanations to it as well as superstitions about this "witching" hours.

True! What made me almost believe it is that at this particular hourz strange noises that are not always heard in the day are heard and most of these witches brew their portions by these time because we mere mortals must have been fast asleep.

For me tho, this is the time I have peace and also a clear mind as you stated to read. If I read during the day when the sun is up and vehicles are moving around, I tend not to understand quickly as it'd be by 3am.

You go girl, that thing is not paying the rent with you.😂😂❤️
I didn't know whether to laugh out loud or be afraid. The way you describe things is so entertaining. I enjoyed reading it immensely. Don't forget to call that carpenter. There is no hour that belongs to the devil abeg.🙏🏾

You go girl, that thing is not paying the rent with you

Exactly 🤣

The way you describe things is so entertaining.

Thanks dear had to state it the way it happened 😁

There is no hour that belongs to the devil abeg.🙏🏾

I believe so my dear cause no matter how scared I am, I'll stand up to anything life threatening in a very violent manner.

Way to go. Omo I officially like you abeg. Many girls would have been so scared and all. Glad you stood your ground and remained strong. But that cat thing outside looks like something in African magic. God abeg.😂😭

Omo I officially like you abeg.

Aww, that's sweet 🥰

But that cat thing outside looks like something in African magic.

Honestly 🤣🤣🤣

This sounds like one of the American horror movies with the creeps but the only thing is that no one died😂.

Cats are very curious and adventurous, little wonder why it found the opening that even the own of the house didn't know about 😅

but the only thing is that no one died😂.

🤣🤣🤣

They should be adventurous during the day and not try me at night please 😭🤣

Just ask them for part of the house rent and payment for emotional damage if they continue to come around 😉

🤣🤣🤣🤣
You bet I will

I trust you on that 😂

🤣😎

hahahahaha maybe not intentional, since your story is much about devils and fear, but had great fun reading it. Your writing still made me more than once chuckle. BTW, didn't know the devil is going by the clock, 3am. But it kinda makes sense to me, by doing so, the devil is able to structure its work across the 24 timezones we have around our planet.

ahhhh owwww ahhhh: TikTok is true! 100%! Must be. So many peeps using that app. Why would they when the content isn't true at all? Just joking ;)

Did you manage to get the carpenter in and forever move the thug sounds to the bin?

BTW, didn't know the devil is going by the clock, 3am.

Haha, I believe it's just superstition even though I'm pretty sure that most of these witches brew their portions at this hour when everyone must have gone to bed.

Did you manage to get the carpenter in and forever move the thug sounds to the bin

I sure did 😁. Everything is fixed now. Thanks for your beautiful comment, it made me smile 💜

🎶 🙇

This was me yesterday night....
Although I still slept like a babe...
The cat isn't stupid enough to allow me or my lovely rots to catch it😀

🤣🤣🤣🤣
Glad you slept peacefully 🤣

I Always sleep peacefully 😂😂😂😂

Like a babe 😍

Imagine 🤣🤣🤣
I'll soon become your nightmare. Just you wait

Now why would you wanna be in my dreams 🌚

Glad that there was a more realistic answer to the thud and random noises. It would be more unnerving to hear all that but not find the culprit! Lol. 3 am is a strange hour indeed, I’ve had to wake up at that hour occasionally for work and it’s tough!

Yep!! I'd be so terrified and wide awake till the sun comes up. Lol

Lately I've been waking up at the same hour to read as I have examinations coming up next week. It's been tough though but I still have to do what's necessary.
