Hello, fellows of Market Friday and Dreemers!
I'm a bit against the clock. But I hope to be on time with my entry for this week's Dreemport Challenge in collaboration with the fabulous #MarketFriday by @dswigle.
This week we are celebrating Dreemport's 1st anniversary, and Dreemie @dreemsteem has asked us to go shopping to prepare a meal for the celebration. I thought it would be a good idea to make Mexican tostadas and some Margaritas for the party.
So join me at the market to buy the ingredients.
Yesterday, I went to the market where I buy vegetables and chicken every week. In this market, the prices are in local currency. And today, 5.51 Bs. is 1 dollar.
I bought chicken, paprika, peppers, and onions for the stew. Tomatoes, onions, lemons, and cilantro to make pico de gallo. And white cheese to grate.
But in this market, I found that they had no corn tortillas or avocados. Alarm bells went on. How could I make tostadas without guacamole? So I paid the bill and went to another market.
And fortunately, in this other market, I got what I was looking for. In this one, prices are referred to in US dollars.
So I bought the corn tostadas. I also bought some corn chips that come in chunks. You'll see what for.

And I took a stroll through the liquor section. And they had tequila, but fortunately, I already had a bottle at home that some friends had given me, and I didn't have to buy it. So I'm ready for the Margaritas too. 🍸🍸
But since Dreemport doesn't have an anniversary every week and it's a special occasion, and as we were in the Mexican vibe. Having the chicken broth and as I had bought enough tomatoes, cheese, and avocado, I decided to make an Aztec soup as a first course using the corn chips to serve it before the Tostadas.

I'm zoned in to the tequila lol! I haven't had a taste of that since I don't know when. I do like the bottle too. It is really tempting to buy that if I saw it. I haven't been able to attend the dreemport party but it seems so much fun with lots of giveaways.

You are becoming the JIT queen. How bizarre that the first market had no avocados I thought they would have been everywhere!
This time I was the JIT queen actually. I thought I wouldn't make it. 🤣
It's not so strange that there are no avocados since it's not in season. That's also why they are more expensive these days.
Aztec soup is easy to make. You know I'm not very good with recipes and quantities and I do things by eye in the kitchen. But you take several tomatoes, I used 8, peel them, dice and cook them with onion, garlic, chili pepper, salt, and pepper. If you want the soup spicier, more chili of course ;). Then you blend it and add chicken consommé. Serve it with pieces of avocado, corn chip, cubes of white cheese, and sour cream.

I am the same with recipes, don't use them and just whap everything together.
So you blend it and add the chicken gotya. Cubes of white cheese that is interesting, I might experiment one day :)

Here avocados are available almost all year round, but the season is coming to an end, so the ones you can find in the markets now are more expensive than when they were in season.

For the soup, you'll need tomatoes, onion, garlic, chili pepper, salt, and pepper. Cook all the ingredients and blend them and add chicken broth.

Something looks tasty and I have a good feeling it will taste just as delicious. I hate when I go to the market and I can't find everything I need. It breaks my heart cos having to go to another market is really stressful. Most times I just go back home except that one thing is really important
Here, I'm a bit used to the fact that you don't always get everything in the same place. Before it used to stress me out, but I don't care anymore. I buy what there is and only in case I really need something like this time I go round more than one market;)

Well, the emblematic drink in Mexico is Tequila, which is an agave liquor. And they also have good beers. I don't know if they produce wines. But any of those drinks will do the trick to toast for Dreemport ;)😊

Hi! I always buy the corn toast ready-made in the supermarket and make whatever I put on top of it. Always a chicken or beef stew or ground beef. Then I top it with grated cheese, guacamole, which is made with avocado, and 'pico de gallo', which is like a salad of finely chopped tomato, onion, and cilantro seasoned with lemon and olive oil. I also usually add sour cream, and sometimes cream of beans to the tostadas.
