Special Midnight Date at St Rosyam Mart for groceries shopping

in Market Friday2 years ago

It was midnight and the children were sound asleep. Husband wanted to have midnight date-cum-groceries-shopping. He was feeling ambitious I would say, perhaps it was also to celebrate Malaysia Day which fell on 16 September. I definitely did not mind to tag along since it was a public holiday to celebrate our nation's day. We used to go out for midnight date a lot while dating for a 'mamak' session or to catch a midnight movie and or midnight food hunting. This midnight #marketfriday was somehow walking down memory lane kind of feel, the only difference was, we have kids now. Haha.

Let's Go to Rosyam Mart!

St Rosyam Mart is one of a kind because it opens 24 hours. It is a popular spot for family to have their relaxed groceries shopping after dinner, as well as always packed with people especially vendors and food business owners. The prices of everything are cheaper and often, they sell things in bulk or big boxes, ideal for food businesses' owners.

This was my second time here, and I was still as thrilled as my first visit. We parked right in front of the mart and I couldn't help but to be mesmerised by this huge tall beautiful trees. I always felt so safe when I stood in front of the tall gigantic trees and in awe of nature, in awe of my Creator. Tall huge trees always remind me that God is my shelter and my refuge.

Okay, let's get back to the mart. Lol.

Greeted by many fruits, and still love the colourful sight of nicely arranged fruits. We spotted really cute tiny pineapples. Husband grabbed one packet to try.

We continued walking and saw refreshing drinks made of juices and basil seeds. I was thinking basil seeds are chia seeds but husband said basil seeds are basil seeds. However they looked like chia seeds to me. I have yet to Google it up to read. I grabbed one lychee flavour one.

Then we reached all herbs and spices section, and smelled so nice especially a hint of rosemary and cinnamon. Nearby was big chiller with Emborg brand cheese. We needed cheese so one packet into cart.

Umbrellas are sold here too. In fact, it is safe to say they have many household items sold too like detergents, shampoo, broom, mop and pail, etc.

I needed eggs because I just got my braces and I could not eat much solid food, gums are too tender now to chew on meat, husband asked me to eat eggs everyday especially soft boiled eggs. We grabbed 30 normal chicken eggs and 30 village chicken eggs.

Was eyeing on these duck salted eggs but I thought I should cut down salt so I skipped.

I was amazed by their stocking system. Huge warehouse racks for many boxes and storage. Felt quite satisfied to be in this view.

So many stacks of rice guni. And there were 'soldiers' or security guard at every corner to guard to prevent theft.

Boxes of drinks at this section. If only I had so much money, I would certainly grab boxes of coffee cans, and boxes of milk boxed drinks.

We needed to load up some spread and buns because our eldest son is having growth spurt, he gets hungry hourly.

We went to the fish section, although we did not need to stock up any fish, but we enjoyed strolling this section and feeling fishy. Haha. I loved fish smell, I know, I am weird. That's why I was the only child at home able to wake up as early to go to market with my mother.

Then we strolled the frozen meat and anything frozen section. I saw Makcik brand frozen egg tarts, almost wanted to buy since the boys love egg tarts, but somehow I didn't.

And I stood here awhile to admire the worker's working diligently to cut the meat parts.

So many mountains of chickens... These are farmed chicken which were sold at super cheap price.

We took a photo here because of Malaysia flags behind.

Some other sections like biscuits, snacks and I spotted our local sugar cube.

Dried seafood section where you could find all types of dried salted fish of varieties. Also sambal belacan and cencaluk as well as other local sauces and paste.

A must stop-by section - coffee section, to see any new brands that I wanted to try. So far, nope. But I managed to grabbed some canned soup, canned tuna, corned beef and instant porridge.

Then, husband got interested in a new local brand of instant noodle call MyOri Penang curry noodle. He took one.

We were back to the drinks section. So many canned juices which I wanted to try but knowing they are not 100% juice, so I refused to spend the money here, instead we grabbed some healthy drink. I shall also stick to drinking more water and black coffee.

Then, the section I loved most — the vegetables section. We grabbed cucumbers, cauliflower, sweet potatoes. Vegetables section made me happy until I forgot to take any photos here. Lol.

Fresh grated coconut reminded me of my mum and I used to help her squeezed out coconut milk from grated coconut, it was a satisfying experience.

After we grabbed the vegetables needed, it was time to pay. The cart also looked rather full, so we proceeded to the cashiers.

Another security guard guarding the entrance where the slope for trolleys was. But, I think she was falling off to sleep soon.

Outside the entrance was an isle full of local fruits too. I was so impressed by St Rosyam Mart. Definitely coming back again with the children.

Our purchase!

Felt so satisfying to manage to slot of midnight date with husband. I missed doing things together and hope there will be more interesting date like this in the future.

Great company, great mart, great date, great purchase!

It's nice to see that things are somewho going back to "normal" and you and your hubs had a great time together.

The pineapples look cute. 😁 Are they sweet? I used to also think those small pecks on the juice drink were chia seeds until I paid real attention and read through the labels and saw "basil seeds" lol.

Those cute pineapples... Not sweet at all. We felt like being 'cheated', haha. Okay, so basil seeds are not chia seeds? They look exactly the same.

Oh dear, I hate being cheated on. 😂

Basil seeds and chia seeds are different. I've tried chia seeds on drinks (lemon water for example) but not basil seeds. I didn't attempt those that can be bought in the stores as well.

Here's a side by side-- basil seeds on the left and chia seeds on the right. Pencil for size reference. 😅

Wow. I received educational comment, so privilege. Now I can tell the difference. So basil is basil. Chia is chia. Thank WikiArliinn. 🌹❤️

Thank you for participating in #MarketFriday! I appreciate the time and effort that goes into putting a post together for the challenge. It is with great pleasure that I read through and realize how much we have all tried to include things in our world that may be unique to the area. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for them. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. I hope the week has found you healthy and happy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.
