Market Friday - The mandatory dinner outing during the trip: trying some of the local gastronomy in southern Argentina. 😃❤️

in Market Fridaylast year

The good thing about renting a family apartment on our last trip was that we had a fully equipped kitchen to prepare our own food without spending so much money. But when you're out for a walk, it's almost mandatory to try something from the place, even if it's to take home a pleasant memory of your stay. That's what we did one of our nights in Puerto Madryn, when we went out for dinner and to try the famous "Patagonian lamb" from Argentina ❣️.

The city of Puerto Madryn is one of the most developed in the province of Chubut, so the last thing missing is a gastronomic offer. In the month of October it is the high season because all the tourists arrive there with the aim of seeing some free whales in the sea, so the days and nights are quite hectic there. On the recommendation of an acquaintance, we came to this restaurant located right in front of the beach 💕.

We made the reservation for a table and all because we assumed that it would be with a lot of people, but when we arrived we saw that this was not the case at all. In fact, it was pretty empty even though it was almost 9 PM, the favorite time for dinner. Either way this was good because we would be served quickly 😀.

We were located at a table on the upper floor, and surprise: we were still alone. Even the waiters looked somewhat bored and we were able to chat with them. They said they were also surprised by the low turnout that night, perhaps because it was Tuesday? We don't know, but they were still happy because they were having a lot more work than in the last two high seasons after the wave of COVID 😶.

While we waited for our dinner to arrive, we looked at the prices a bit and were surprised by the cost of some of the wines on the menu. Some were worth up to 60,000 ARS (200 USD), which is equivalent to a minimum wage in Argentina. Of course we did not ask for that to drink, we opted for a beer with more modest prices 😅.

For a dinner of four adults and one child, we ordered a portion of barbecue, two portions of French fries, a portion of Patagonian lamb, and a plate of gnocchi, two soft drinks, and about 4 liters of beer. Dinner was pretty decent, roast beef is never a bad choice. In addition, we came from eating cold cuts and little elaborated things in the previous days, so a somewhat more substantial dinner was already necessary 😅.

What we wanted to try the most was the famous Patagonian Lamb that everyone makes a name for every time they go to the south of the country. In Argentina we are very used to eating roast meat, but in Buenos Aires it is not easy to get this product. I must say that I liked it, the difference in the meat is noticeable because it is more bitter than the beef we are used to and it also falls apart as if it were in pieces. During my trip to the north I had already tried lamb, but it was made in the form of a stew and the flavors are of course very different 🙂.

For this dinner we paid a total of 22,000 ARS (approx. 74 UDS), a fairly high cost but it was worth it and you also have to consider that it is high season, where prices are usually like this. The lamb portion alone cost about 5,000 ARS (17 USD), but if we see it as a unique opportunity, it's not that much. Who knows when we will eat this dish again 😅.

What do you think of these prices? This has been my entry for the Market Friday organized by @dswigle. Don't miss the opportunity to share your favorite markets every Friday in this community. Learning about what is traded in other regions of the world will always be interesting 😃!

I have rarely eaten lamb and it has been in restaurants, your food looks delicious and being on vacation it is worth it to treat yourself.

Judging by the photos, this restaurant is a very comfortable and pleasant place. the dish looks delicious! great you enjoyed it. we also like to rent apartments with a kitchen when traveling and relaxing. it's affordable and convenient!

Absolutely, if we had to go out to dinner every night it would not reach the budget 😅.
