“Market Friday” ~ My first post! Let me show you around in Sevilla, Spain 🇪🇸

in Market Friday2 years ago

Hi all 👋🏻

As I saw several post from friends popping up each Friday for the #MarketFriday by @dswigle I looked further into it, at what the rules are, and decided I would love to join in 🤩 So here is my first Post!

‼️If you want to know more about #MarketFriday’s have a look at At this post about it from @dswigle.

I take you today through some streets of Sevilla in Spain.
A beautiful city with loads to see and experience.
We went there for a long weekend end of October 2021. So not that long ago.

Let me show you what we found first in the covered food market: as it did surprise us.

We were walking over this long bridge “Puente de Triana” going over the Guadalquivir river.
Heading to the local covered Food Market: Mercado de Triana.

The market is on the right.

Entering the covered market, we see fruits, vegetables, meat and fish.

In Spain almost all covered markets are historic and are dressed up with beautiful tiles around the stalls. The name displaying from the owners of the stalls. And it tells you what you can get there.

It is always such a pretty sight. If we are visiting other areas we do tend to check out the local markets. Even if it is just to wander around.

Fruit and vegetables nicely presented.

Not always displaying prices. So there can be differences in what you would pay 😉

After we walked passed here we saw an escalator going down in a corner and asked what was there.

A local told us, there are ruins under this market and you can enter them from the side street.
Really? 🤩
So of course we walked to the entrance to check out.

There was a woman sitting behind a table giving us some information about the ruins and we could enter for free after we showed we lived in Spain.
Going down a corridor and some steps we found the ruins.

Imagine the market is above us here…

Let me tell you a little bit about the ruins.

It is part of:
Museo Del Castillo De San Jorge - Museum Of The Castle Of San Jorge, Sevilla.

More information can be found In this website in English!

It states:
”The Castle of San Jorge was a medieval fortress built on the west bank of the Guadalquivir river in the Spanish city of Seville (Spain). It was also used as headquarters and prison for the Spanish Inquisition. It was demolished in the 19th century and made into a food market. A museum in the underground ruins focuses on the history of the castle, the Spanish Inquisition and of religious repression.”

The escalator going up at the end of the tour.
It truly is a hidden gem.
I don’t have more photographs of the ruins itself, it’s larger than I show you today. Don’t miss it if you visit Sevilla.
But I have more photographs for you to enjoy, as we walked further through Sevilla city, what I show you next.

Outside the Market we see this statue.

Crossing another bridge going into the historic centre of Sevilla we decided it was time for lunch first.

We entered this cute little bar.

The interior around us.

It’s name is “Toby eats the world”

We had some delicious tapas and cappuccino’s. Even the owner came up to the table to ask if all was ok.
Wonderful service and truly delicious food.

Our bill would have been.
2 cappuccinos €2,90 each
Tapas
Patatas fritas con Ali Oli €3,50
Lagrimitas de Pollo €3,90
Ensalada Full Green €9,-

Total bill: €22,20
That’s not bad for lunch for 2 people.

Up to our next findings:

Walking through the small streets you do see a lot of tiles, displaying the most wonderful scenes, on corners and on shop fronts.

The oldest bar in Sevilla, we had a quick peak in.

Passing by cute cafés, I was attracted by the lights and many picture frames in the back.

Another very popular little cafe. Serving also Tapas.

In the back streets we find little touristy shops.

More beautiful tiles on restaurants around us.

Some have beautiful displays in the door openings to attract visitors. I liked the painted cabinet and it’s images on the side.

More cafés we pass by.

This building is entirely covered with beautiful ceramic tiles. It was tall and hard to capture with the sun, but hope it succeeded.

A restaurant on the ground floor.

We walked by a sweets shop, had to take a peak inside as the display was rather unique. Don’t you think?

No I didn’t buy any hahaha 🤣

And to finish this post… we passed by these colourful buildings with a flower shop.

It displayed many flowers on the street under a beautiful ceramic tiled wall.

What a pretty sight this shop is.

A quick look back.

Nice waking up to 😁💃🏻🎉🥳
Have a wonderful weekend!

I remember this market when I went to Seville, and I remember the food was lovely all over Seville. Yummy!!! Wasn't aware of the ruins underneath it, such a pity that I missed it.

Yes, the food… everywhere so yummy 😁
That’s a pity indeed. Most don’t know about the ruins as even Google map doesn’t really show it as there are to many tags popping up. But if you zoom in very well, you find it. But many people don’t do that.
Maybe they need to advertise it a bit more 😁 as it is lovely to visit. But hidden, and you walk by without noticing.
They have signs up inside at the ruins, with pictures and the history about it. Also screens you can push on to walk through. But they were off because of the pandemic.
So much to see in unexpected areas.
Do go if you ever visit it again. 😁

A fabulous first time Market Friday post @littlebee4, I really enjoyed walking along with you. I have been to Spain but not to Sevilla. Now I can actually say I have after your post.

Thank you so much @angiemitchell 😊 I’m glad you had a great time walking around with me. And I could show you a little of this beautiful city.
This was my first visit to Sevilla, haven’t seen it all yet. I live about 6 years now in Spain. More to discover 😉
Have a wonderful weekend, enjoy it 👋🏻☀️

What a cool market I love markets like that
And then those cool ruins below WOW that is amazing

Thank you so much @tattoodjay 😁
It was such a surprise to find ruins underneath. Not many know… as it is on Google maps, but all the other things around it pop up first, unless you zoom in really close… than you could find it. But most won’t see it.

That cool you found out about the ruins

I was lucky 😎

How beautiful is this city! I was supposed to travel to Spain in 2020 until the whole pandemic happened. Thank you for showing us around the city through your well-shot photos. Felt like I was teleported there and had a glimpse of how Sevilla looks like in real life. 😊

Thank you so much @michelleloh168 😁
I’m glad to hear I could help in the teleporting you to Spain 😉
Sorry to hear your travel plans didn’t go through… maybe one day you can enjoy Spain for a little while.
Our holiday to New Zealand and Australia was cancelled due to the pandemic… 😞 one day we will go.
It sure changed so many things.

Sevilla is truly a great city to visit. Loved taking you along on my walk through it 😁👋🏻

Thank you for participating in @dswigle's marketfriday and for sharing your experience with us. Reading the story and following the trip made me feel like I was on the tour with you; that's such a nice post and your images are stunning. Good job! @littlebee4

You are so welcome @collinz 😁 happy to join in and make it a regular post.
Thank you so much for your nice words, glad you felt like you were there with me, discovering Sevilla.
Have a wonderful Friday and sunny weekend ahead 👋🏻☀️

Hello dear friend @littlebee4 good morning
What a beautiful place you have visited, I would love to visit Seville at some point
It's good that they built the market on the ruins and I appreciate very much that you let us know these beautiful images and all their history
enjoy the weekend

Hello my friend @jlufer 👋🏻
Good morning ☀️
Hope you can visit it one day as it is truly a beautiful city to visit. So much happening and to explore.
I could wander the streets forever there, and see every time something else.

It was so great to see they protected the ruins and turned it into a museum. And we can still visit it.
Thank you so much, I wish you too a wonderful Weekend, enjoy! 😁

yes, it would be great to visit the city and tour some beautiful cities in Spain

My fingers are crossed you can visit one day 🤞🏻😁
Enjoy your Friday further dear friend 👋🏻☀️

I was in Seville many years ago, and I loved it. And seeing your beautiful photos was like going back to visit there. What a delight the market and the city that has such a good vibe.
Cheers!😄

Sevilla is truly great to visit @coquicoin 😎 we escaped in October for a short weekend away to it, as we still don’t want to go abroad really. And we hadn’t visited Sevilla before. So we thought let’s go. Visit places here in Spain.
Happy to hear it brought back some memories of it.
Cheers 👋🏻😁☀️

That's great. Spain has many places to see and all regions and cities have their charm and the food is so good.
I hope to be able to visit Sevilla and Andalucia in the future again.

Have a great weekend!😊

Yes, even though I’m living here for 6 years and visited before many times, it is so big, I surely haven’t seen it all.
Hope you can @coquicoin 😁
Thanks a lot, you too have a great weekend!

Thank you 😊🌻

You are welcome 💃🏻🌹🤗

What cool details!
I love this market @littlebee4 !

It’s cool right @silversaver888 😎
They do look pretty here in Spain the covered markets 😁 and all are slightly different. Love visiting them.

Welcome to this wonderful community hosted by a very nice and kind lady @dswigle . That stroll by those beautiful buildings ( cafes and stores) is amazing . Sevilla is really beautiful. I love the titles with the names of the businesses and other figures and prints. Lovely. That market is very clean and it does not seem to be very crowded. Those ruins are literally a "hidden" gem.

Thank you so much for your welcome to the community @francisaponte25 👋🏻😁 happy to be here.
Yes, Sevilla is lovely.
Normally before pandemic times those markets are always crowded, hard to wander around. Now they are still rather empty. But it is changing… people come slowly out again.
Thanks for your visit 😁

wow! market over the ruins of ancient buildings! the dark history of these ruins. in the Arab markets, too, there is no price for products. they have one price for Arabs, another for Israelis, and a third for tourists. I have never been to Spain, but my friends told me that it is a very beautiful country. interesting walk! thank!

Thanks @tali72 😁 for visiting.
It was so cool to see the ruins and stumble upon them as a coincidence. Glad we did.
Yep, especially tourist rates… they do exist here too.
Spain is beautiful and every region is so different. I live here now about 6 years. So much still to explore…

You are welcome 😁 happy to share.

@abejita4 me encantaron tus fotos que hermoso lugar 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🇻🇪🇻🇪🇻🇪🇻🇪🇻🇪🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍👏👏👏👏👏☺️☺️☺️☺️👏

Muchísimas gracias @yraimadiaz 😁💃🏻🥰
👋🏻☀️😊🤩🤗🥰🌹☕️🐝

So artful! Love love all of the details you've shared, the way the fruits and veggies were displayed and merchandised, the pretty tiles, cabinet artwork and the surprise hidden ruins! I can just imagine the hustle and bustle of a marketplace in contrast to the quiet history below the market grounds.

The city was vibrant and alive, even though less people around.
Those kind of markets are normally full with people and it is hard to get through, but since the pandemic it is a total different story.
It was so arty everywhere. I could take photographs forever there, capturing everything.
Even a short weekend makes you fall in love with it. 😎🥰

If it were possible, I'll teleport there in a heartbeat. Have a lovely weekend 😊

If only we could… @discoveringarni 🤩
Thank you kindly and may your weekend be lovely too 👋🏻☀️

Nice post @littlebee4!
I love #MArketfriday and was hoping to participate this week, but the weather has been horrible.
I love that you've included surrounding interesting photos.
I really enjoyed the architecture and creative ideas overload, that I will archive for future use.
Wishing you a lovely weekend:)

Thank you so much @millycf1976 😁
That’s a shame the weather has been horrible. Hope it will improve soon 🤞🏻
Thought I show a bit more than just the market as I didn’t have many photographs of it.
Great to hear… let me know when you explore the creative ideas you got 😎 would be great to see 🤓

Thank you kindly, and I wish you too a lovely weekend with better weather 👋🏻☀️

Thanks for your lovely reply😊🤞
I'll make sure to give you a shout if I do get to implement any of the ideas from your photos:)))

You are so welcome @millycf1976 😁
Cool 😎

Chances are it's really going to be a great weekend and I wish you the same!

Thanks a lot 😁
With loads of sunshine and happiness 👋🏻☀️

I would love to go shopping at that market everything is so well presented that it provokes to go there. The markets are always crowded but in this one there is a tranquility that makes it very special. Greetings

It was a beautiful market @alborhada and it would have been busy in normal times, but due to the pandemic, this was quite that day last year. So it was a joy to wander around, having the place almost for ourselves.
Thanks for visiting, have a wonderful weekend 👋🏻☀️
