The weather was not good on the first two days during our recent breakaway in the Drakensberg, so we went out hunting for local produce.
We visited Farm Friends, Drakensberg Brewery, and enjoyed a Drakensberg Chocolate tasting.
I somehow do not believe this one could take off!

Products on sale included various brands of Rooibos tea from different regions - a very healthy tea that is very popular in South Africa.
Award-winning Terbodore coffee roasters hail from the Kwazulu Natal Midlands and are a must-buy for any coffee lover.
Relishes, jams, and various preserves we all tempting and I ended up with quite a heavy basket!.
The Chocolate tasting had me buying a couple of bottles of Hazelnut Spread and I have to say it's
much better than the more well-known brand everyone knows!
I also took home some pure Cocoa and chocolate buttons, for baking, as well as a couple of slabs of Chocolate.
Hubby always has to buy a gift for someone, so spoilt my son's girlfriend and me with these choccies that look way too pretty to open up!
Then it was off to the Drakensberg Brewery that's right opposite Farm Friends.
We took a peak at the brewery, but were not allowed inside.
One could enjoy a beer tasting plus a 'Build your own platter' which went down well with the ice-cold beers and casual seating outdoors. We shared a platter as an appetizer, as it was still too early for lunch after all the tasting we did!
This was the Blond Ale which was a light and very pleasant refreshing beer.
Now for the decision on what beer to take home - that was the men's department as I'm not a beer drinker. They had some interesting T&G mixes and a Belgian Ale from another brewery, so everyone was catered for!
After all this tasting and shopping, we went back to the Valley Bakery that I was raving about last week as we wanted more home-baked goods, and we ended up having a delicious late lunch there as well. It was raining cats and dogs on our first visit, but the weather started clearing up by the next afternoon.
Our son Dean spoilt us rotten!

This was the last of our shopping expeditions in the Drakensberg, but we had to walk off all the tasty treats the next day so showed the youngsters that their old #silverblogger Mom and 70-plus Dad can still master a moderately strenuous hike.

Perhaps if you were allowed an ale or two before hand that little yellow plane would have flown 😄. Oh this region is simply the best for quick exploring in the most amazing hidden away places.
Hiking is enjoyable up there I am sure it has something to do with the mountain air giving us that little extra push up the next hill Lizelle.

I have to laugh Silver Hair Lizzie at how the younger folk think that we loose some of our physical abilities with our ages. I remember my daughter saying to me several years ago now, that I may not be able to keep up when we went walking in Melbourne. Well, she was so surprised that she had to work hard at keeping up with me.
What a great day collecting a basketful of produce. Do you eat the hazelnut spread on biscuits, toast, bread?
