Linking Kawasaki Disease to Sars-CoV2(CoVid19)

in StemSocial4 years ago

Latest in the news is of children having this Kawasaki Disease, a "possible" effect from Sars-cov2 virus. I wasn't paying attention to it till my circle of mommy-friends began expressing fear of sending their kids to school. Not that there is a rush as UK is still in Lockdown with a lot of assumptions on when school will re-open.

School in June is still off-limits so they are rest assured, for now.

Irregardless of zero statistics of kids mortality with the viral pandemic worldwide, all these news online of this disease cropping up after getting positive results of Sars-CoV2 is causing fear among the parents. Even friends in the medical field. As I am a cardiac adult nurse, not a pediatric nurse, I can only share what I have researched on about it. I have no experience whatsoever about this disease nor have been exposed to it.

My opinions are just that only as well.

From Mayo Clinic website, Kawasaki Disease is treatable, affecting mainly children. The disease is an inflammation of medium-sized vasculature, the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart. Lymp nodes are also affected, probably due to the inflammation itself.

Presenting itself with high fevers, one thing to note is the skin peeling symptom. In addition, images online also show red and big patchy marks at the neck and/or back.

Literatures online when it comes to causes of Kawasaki disease are not certain, although its' "prevalence" depends on the age, sex and ethnicity. With the age, ages 2-6 years seem to be the most affected and although it affects all races, those with Asian descents are the most affected.

It have been mentioned that viral and bacterial are possible causes, including some chemicals or irritants. BUT since the 1960s till now, these causes remain UNCERTAIN.

As to the link between Sars-CoV2 and Kawasaki Disease, if there is any at all, there is not much data to fully link them together.
Both have the same symptom of high fevers, nothing else. If Kawasaki Disease involves inflammation of coronary arteries, Sars-CoV2 involves thrombosis.

And if statistics of children positive of Sars-CoV2 with Kawasaki disease is anything to go by, almost everyone who are getting swabbed are getting positive results of the present viral testing. How reliable are they?

There maybe a link, or there maybe not, whatever the result it is needed to allay the parents' fear of what's going on. Or for them to know where they stand. The question now is, are the world's "expert" reliable too?

Please do your own research. Cheers!
