If you were going to read one article outside of Hive today...

I recommend you check out this one recently published on hackernoon written by @theycallmedan: https://hackernoon.com/inside-trons-steem-takeover-attempt-and-the-birth-of-the-hive-blockchain-ya1g63249

Tells you a good overview of what occurred in the past couple months in case you haven't been around to hear all the noise and attention it has gotten within our community and in the whole crypto space, specifically crypto twitter.

It's kind of crazy all things considered what occurred but with all the other crazy things happening in the world right now it's probably being overshadowed a bit. Not saying that it should get more attention than the rest but in the crypto category it's pretty unprecedented and to many unbelievable. I mean, grab a friend who isn't into crypto and explain to them what occurred after the acquisition and what is happening on the other chain and their front-ends today, I tried and my friend accused me of being racist and couldn't believe that was actually happening right now. It's almost identical to that one Silicon Valley episode which involves a 51% attack.

If we thought things were getting boring I guess we got what we asked for now and the future remains even more interesting.

With all happening I just want to remind everyone not to focus too much on prices and other things and take care of your health foremost and not to put others in danger. The community comes first so if you see users in need who have a reputation and activity on our chain then make sure to offer a helping hand during these trying times and hopefully we'll overcome them sooner rather than later and then showcase the rest of the world what it means to be a community on Hive and how it differs from the rest.

If you want to help get this article some more attention on Twitter here are a couple tweets you can like and retweet to help the case. Stay safe and take care everyone!

What JSun has done will massively impact adoption of cryptocurrency by people yet outside the cryptoverse. Most people consider crypto a scam to begin with, and where will their opinion be when they read about one single rear-hole can just freeze millions of dollars worth if he doesn’t like you.

This is a massive setback imo, not just to steem, the whole cryptosphere in general.

Yep, not to mention the role of the exchanges in all of it. Disgusting.

Yes, involving exchanges was such an immature move. What's more amazing is such a renowned exchange like binance would agree to this.

I am sure in the future, when schools teach how this industry was born, this will be a case study of how the old "centralism" tried to keep its rules over the "decentralism" and did not manage to succeed.
On top of all the drama, JS has probably some influence in hive's recent price dump. Just one account is dumping lots of hive to the markets to force the price to go down, but eventually, it will dry out and the market will move up again.

My best guess is once that account is empty binance will magically shortly after enable withdrawals, either them or bithumb or huobi oooor more large stakeholders get softforked so they can maintain their illusion that Steem is worth more than Hive.

This article covers in depth what has happened. Really well written, thanks for sharing it Acid!
We'll show some love over twitter. 😉

I tried and my friend accused me of being racist

I think technically you are an ethnic cleanser /s

Your friend is an outsider what tangent did you go off on to get called a racist?

Dan's article was great. I paricularly liked how he focused on the positive actions of the Hive community. He did a very good job to frame Steemit and specifically Justin as corrupt and hostile.

One thing got to me as someone with more knowledge than someone not into Hive or Steem may have, but be keeenly interested in is:

He used the words 'unwittingly' and 'fooling' to descibe the actions of the exchanges. How could one just believe they were tricked (poloniex in particular)? I say this because it is specifically emphasized in the article twice. Also, there is no explaination.

I'm sure he is being diplomatic here which is smart. He also offers hints that it was so spectacularly unexpected. In anycase, I think that particular point needs to be investigated more, especially because someone with no interest in Steem or Hive may have an interest in other cryptos kept on those large exchanges and in their trust.

How did Justin managed to fool two of the smartest people in crypto? As well as, their talented teams. Obviously they may have trusted him, but the whole point of crypto is to avoid trusting anyone. Was there some corruption involved? Or is there more to the story?

To me this is the most important part of the story for cryptocurrencies in general. It deserves to be told. We know not to trust centralized exchanges. They sure are getting tricked and fooled a lot.

In anycase, this is very positive news for Hive. It is a fair and balanced position.

Your friend is an outsider what tangent did you go off on to get called a racist?

Mostly about the censorship and the acquisition and early threats of destroying the chain to migrate the community and token over to their chain.

I was hoping you were going to say something interesting. =/

This just confuses me more. But it begs me to ask do blockchains have races? Have we switched from the Steem race to the Hive race and was this action discriminatory? I believe it may be at least discriminatory.

Back to reality, I did read some stupid and ignorant stuff from people hopefully just caught up in the heat of the moment, but nothing from you.

Why is that confusing? China being censorship capital, him being chinese, me telling him first thing he did was threaten to acquire and break off the competition for his copy-cat plagiarised chain and then literally censoring a front-end that's meant not to. I'm not surprised he thought I was just being racist/stereotypical first until he realized that's actually what's happening after looking more into it.

What you mean back to reality? lol.

Yeah I know what you mean, people are getting weird thinking it'll pay off cause JS is going to pump them to enrichment.

Wait so is your friend also Chinese, or are you talking about Justin Sun?

If your friend knows Justin Sun is Chinese already, he probably knows quite a bit about Tron and maybe even crypto. But if you just decided to tell him Justin Sun is Chinese, it seems to be what gave him the idea thst this could be about race or at least cultural differences, even though he did most of this while in the US.

I do know China has a different attitude when it comes to copying and plagerising. I believe the term is fast mover.

Actually studying Apple vs Samsung and the whole debate of fast mover vs first mover may help explain or at least provide context about Tron amd other Chinese players in crypto. It doesn't really matter who is first, it matters who is best.

But that does make me wonder about anither point in Dan's article...why didn't Justin just fork Steem?

A split happened which may make some people a ton of money (especially those tricked exchanges) and has successfully divided a long divided community. Anyway, one can hope win-win.

How could one just believe they were tricked (poloniex in particular)

I don't think anyone believes polo was tricked, AFAIK they never even unvoted. I guess there is a slight chance that binance and huobi just had no oversight or care about Steem to check properly what the code was for and if communication came from the same source as x amount of other hardforks someone may have not bothered to do due diligence.

Assuming they were tricked, it's discomforting to think they have barely any oversight or due diligence.

Also, the fact that they waited a few days to 'research' or whatever is disturbing. To think they have millions of dollars of other people's assets and they don't know much about the basics is disturbing.

I guess the only way we can know if they were tricked is to wait and see if they take action in a few months after they power down and sell their assets, as doing so first would be dumb.

This 13 week powerdown for Binance and Huobi may be why most people are still being diplomatic. Saving what you can is important. I've stopped using binance. But oddly in telegram many people are asking when Hive will be listed on Binance. I want them to airdrop their users (they should burn their personal stake as an apology), but honestly, I don't want them to list and trade Hive. Not after their intimate role in the split.

Anyway, I think this is the most relevant point of the whole saga for noncoiners, too. The rest of the story is mostly just a problem for Steem and Hive holders and perhaps a tale of caution.

It's almost identical to that one Silicon Valley episode which involves a 51% attack.

Lmao even that attack was done by a chinese company. I can see why your friend might think you were being racist :3

Checking out the post now. I'll spread the message as far as I can.

The HackerNoon was in-depth and literally GOLD.

Fantastic article as I missed the backstory!

With all happening I just want to remind everyone not to focus too much on prices and other things and take care of your health foremost and not to put others in danger.

Why health?

I tried and my friend accused me of being racist

Hahaha!

I just mean with the pandemic going on.

Why health?

Don't you like being alive?

It is a great article. And I am sure it only scratches the surface of what really happened.

Ignorance and ego is really affecting that Justin stin of a guy. He thinks he can just manipulate things to work for him as he desire because he is Rich and hmmm rich again.

I am seeing the end of steem soon if he did not retrace his step well that is even if it is still able to.

Just happy that hive rose up

A long and good read, I will try and throw it around a little but I don't have a large Twitter following.

Long live Hive!

Retweet and reblogged. Hope more people will aware about the situation.

Thank you for sharing this information about @theycallmedan article. He wrote clearly from his own perspective and it can count as representative of 'old witness' voice.

That thumbnail looks excellent!

Hello, guys?
I read @ darthknight's post on hive yesterday
(
I was very curio...
Who is the owner of Binance's "101130147" wallet? (darthknight??blocktrades??alpha??)

This is a massive setback imo, not just to steem, the whole cryptosphere in general.

Lesson learned: Don’t ever leave a single penny on any exchange. Not for a single minute. Your funds will be used against you. Have we learned our lesson yet ? Nope .... people are still sending their Hive to exchanges for an airdrop. Your hive is being used against you to drop the price .... will we ever learn ? Nope ....

May ba good

Awesome !

I will read it, thanks for passing the news ;)

This was a very educational post. Thank you so much for sharing!
I knew what took place was a massive undertaking. But seeing what the entire community was able to achieve in this way has really opened my eyes and definitely changes my thoughts on decentralization.

Thanks for the link, retweeted etc.

Very nice image too I must say!
