The Daily Meme #455!

Time for my monthly reminder that beneath the surface of most things you will find facts that you don't like once you dig down deep enough.

Hive is doing pretty good on the whole.
I don't have that many things to complain about.

I would like to see delegations die with their owner's abandonment of the platform.
Delegations should expire on the same schedule as witness votes, imo.
I'm amazed that I didn't think of it myself, but I didn't.
Now the genie is out of the bottle.

Tptb won't be listening to me, gonna be up to you, dear reader, sound off and let them know that we are tired of the reward pool reap of folks no longer awake at the switch.

Maybe we can get some tapering off of how hard these top 20 accounts reap the pool, but I wouldn't count on it.
The names you see are some of the oldest accounts on the chain.
This will be a hard habit for some of them to break.

Why would they quit when the only per person complaining is a known squeaky wheel with little to no influence in the inner circles?

Why would they quit when the math just gives what they would have taken to the next account down and a few redfish that otherwise would have gotten nothing?

We may have to wait until they finally get diluted enough that it doesn't make good use of their time to continue to reap the pool this hard, day after day after day for another few years.
That seems to be the pattern up to now.

Or, maybe the authors here will all become good looking ladies with coffee cups in our mitts on a safari to the deepest recesses of the world and those curators will finally have something worthy of their vote outside the usual safe for beneficence suspects.

Heaven forbid some uncomfortable truths or unpopular speech might make it to the trending page.

IF you don't support speech that angers/disgusts you greatly, you don't support free speech, you support speech you find agreeable.

Not the same thing.

image.png

As an unfortunate side effect of publicizing these little known facts of the math in the hive my only benefit comes when those folks decide to stop taking a whale's share and they let the little fish have more.
The dearth of support from those accounts have set the trend that is likely to continue.

Some of you may wonder why I choose to spend sooo much time on this one topic.

At some point, hopefully in my lifetime, we will see the reward pool smooth off the peaks and raise the valley floors to a more egalitarian distribution of the pool.

No longer will the same old familiar names be running things, new familiar names will replace them.

We will have a community capable of carrying the consensus.
Not just a few early adopters calling the shots, entirely.

But, for that to happen, favored authors need to power up what the community gives them.

IF you are voting rewards to people that dump, you are not helping.
IF you have been here for some time, and your rep is over 65, you should have minimum 1000hp, or you are not helping.

IF somebody wanted to do some math and figure out the details of rep to hp holdings as both rise, we can set some realistic goals for the newbs to aspire to attain.

I will eventually do it myself, but not in time for this post.
I'd have to have the numbers that show how reputation and rewards correlate, and I don't have that formula in my bookmarks.

Are you are tired of paying your masters to bomb children in far away places?
Perhaps it is time you pushed back on that.
A simple way that anybody can do that is to hoard your coins.
A dollar of change in your pocket is a dollar of value out of the banksters' pockets that force us to pay them so they can play in the amusement parks from hell and shop in the human grocery stores.
'Aint that fresh?'

Metal in your own possession will always have more intrinsic value than digits on a bankster's ledger.

Sort:

As long as they’re not doing haejin-style 10 times a day self-upvoting, aren’t they doing a lot of upvotes for others, distributing Hive throughout the network?

The highlighted accounts take 50+% of the pool, each and every day, that doesn't look to be 'good' distribution, to me.
Sure, their not self voting is better than taking 100% of the pool each day, but not by much, imo.

As long as less than 1000 accounts split the first 50% of rewards the distribution is not spreading out enough, for me.

IF we are a free speech platform don't you think trending should be more than food/travel/photography posts?

But Steem/HIVE is a free speech platform. Most of the people write posts for free while a few people at the center get huge rewards.

It is actually better than many sites where people contribute free content and the people at the center get ALL of the rewards.

!PIZZA

IF we are a free speech platform don't you think trending should be more than food/travel/photography posts?

Well, looking at today’s trending page, I also see posts about Hive itself, the war in Ukraine, Agenda 2030, climate change, gaming, DNA and COVID testing, and music, among others. That seems to be broad subject matter, way more than food/travel/photography.

Sure the blockchain is, among other things, censorship-resistant, but that’s only one of many features.

Yes, trending is better than it has been.

Still, 20 accounts take 50% of what is available for ~10k authors and give it to the few hundred(?) that find their favor each day.
While also taking 50% of what is available for all curators for themselves.

These havealots are making sure that they always have as much as they can.
This is the game as we are currently allowed to play it.

Asking people with power to peacefully abdicate is never popular with those that need power to be happy.
This is human nature as engineered by those that manufacture public opinions.

He tries hard enough, but his goals may not be what is best for the entire hive.
6 years and this is where we are, doing things the same old way.

He has been quite cross with some folks, but europeans have different ideas about deportment than we do on this side of the pond.

It's not like I am asking them all to sell their investments, just to stop slopping at the trough intended to bring in newbs and spread the coin to more hands.
Maybe let their vote power reach 100% a little more often.

It's a big ask, I know, but I'm sure our power elite are capable of setting the example for the other power elites of the world.

They have already set the hive loose on the world.

Well, to be fair, if folks don't ask for it they might not have thought of it, either.
The folks at the top of our heap are not as malignant as once was, imo.

!LOL, that is what makes you the baah we know and love.

I think the swarm starts when more folks get a warm welcome by a crowd anticipating their success.
We have to set out our customs and incentivize conformity to them.
Our core influencers are still to insular for that to happen.
A problem that more users will solve.

The other day I snuck into the local zoo and spotted an albino Cheetah
It was the least I could do for him.

🤣😨😥 it's funny, but then u realize just how sad it really is,,

Thank you for learning me a thing or two and for taking a stand.

quick question.. I try and do 50/50 of hp/hbd in mt own holdings, is that a good and fair take on the pool while still supporting hive? thanks,

When hbd is below the peg, you get marginally more hive by powering up 100%.

I've started holding liquid hive and hbd in limit orders on the internal market to take advantage of pumps and dumps.

As long as you are not selling to another coin, you really can't do this wrong.
You might not make as much as possible, but that is ok since you've earned most of it blogging and trading.
Making mistakes will only make you stronger.

ahhhh, thats some smart stiff. thanks! 😉

To have a greater HIVE community, I think members should be supported much more if they are good at writing quality post.

Congratulations @antisocialist! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain and have been rewarded with new badge(s):

Free downvotes killed the pay to play.
Acidyo was instrumental in getting that past tptb.

I follow most of the downvotes in the hive and there is little in the way of wars.
You had to work very hard to get what you have, others have given up once they earned their's.
I wish they would come back, at some point the crowd turns on downvoters.

I wonder what will happen in another 4 years here.

We will rule the world, of course.
