A new year, a better loft. Happy new year Hivers!

2021.

Brexit. Covid. Pubs are shut.

I guess it’s appropriate I look like I’m covered in shit. That’s what it feels like.

I’ve spent New Year’s Day up in the loft, after discovering only 2 days ago that it was sopping wet with condensation

Warmer countries don’t have such problems I suspect, but a dreary damp cold winter in England is an on going battle to keep (basically anything) dry.

So I have done the only thing that needed doing and got stuck in good and proper.

Gone are the days of watching crap New Years Day films and drinking great beer.

However, the whole house will now benefit from a dry loft - hopefully no more damp, and it will be warmer.

Happy new year to all the HIVERS out there.

Thanks for all your support throughout the last 2 years - it means a lot!

Mid-January will see my 3rd year on the blockchain!
Ace times.

Cheers for reading, @ashtv.

Thanks mate, same to you!

Thanks for continuing to make Hive awesome.

Hope 2021 will be a better year for everyone. Happy New Year!

Thanks, same to you!

A damp loft is definitely not good. What was the problem?

Hope the rest of 2021 is better and that we can meet up again.

Absolutely - I look forward to another meet-up!

The cause of the damp was (possible over filling aside) blockages at the eaves.
Air wasn’t circulating and I never recognised it.

It’s just got worse and worse over the years bit by bit, and I’ve not paid enough attention. 🤦🏻‍♂️
The drips caused the insulation to become wet on the top then it started a vicious cycle.

Ventilation is more important than a lot of people realise. I read a fair bit about this when we were building our house. I insulated our loft and made sure the vents in the eaves were clear. So far it looks okay. A friend just had to have her roof seen to as some of the wood was rotting. Don't want that.

Ooof. That’s incredible you built your own house.
What a fantastic and possibly stressful experience!

I couldn’t believe there were bricks and rubble at the end of each rafter, blocking the air flow.
The guy who did the roof 6 years ago must have got lazy.

We’re selling this house, so we’re making sure it’s in the best condition it can be before we list it.

Indeed, a rotten roof is useful to no one.
It’s drying out nicely now - absolutely everything is out. It’s going to have a new lease of life!

I could do a post about the house some time. We moved in 17 years ago! I had a blog back then, but it's not online any more.

I’d love that
