Follow Friday: Perspective

in #hive2 years ago

The News

Excited as we all are by the potential of Hive there are things going on in the world that make it seem less important. Today a British politician was murdered. That does not mean we should stop doing what we do, but I do think just chasing money when you may have enough is not that important really. I am not just driven by money and I do want Hive to do well so that more people who may struggle to get by can make something.

Sorry to bring things down, but we should see the bigger picture.

Meanwhile Bitcoin seems to be having another growth spurt. That generally hits the alts, but $HIVE is holding up fairly well and $SPS is racing away. The 'other coin' is struggling to stay about 1000 Satoshi.

Friday Followings

I have been away for work all week, so have had less time to see what is happening on Hive. I will still look out some people to list here.

  • @nathen007 is keeping up the Follow Friday theme with a different style of post to me, but that is fine. I do not lay claim to the tag.
  • You probably follow @theycallmedan anyway and he is not desperate for your votes, but you should follow his suggestion of commenting on this Tweet by Kraken on which blockchain has the best community. Some memecoin got a lot of love there, but we have something real that people need to know about. I actually saw @demotruk post about it first and he is also worth a follow.
  • @starstrings01 did a nice rundown of his Hive journey over the last three years.
  • @keys-defender is doing a grand job of spotting where people have leaked their keys. They need to be told so they can take action. This account also looks out for phishing campaigns and other dangers.

The Doghouse

I have not had time to look for abuse this week, but some of the people who complain about unfair downvotes need to understand that it is an essential part of Hive and restricting it to 'good people/actions' is just not viable. The platform needs to be made as simple as possible with the minimum of rules. It is down to people to decide how to use their power, however they gained it. If you annoy them it may get you flagged, but whining about that is unlikely to get you far unless you have made the effort to win friends.

The End

The current run on Bitcoin could bring more people to crypto and so we have to keep talking about Hive. It ought to be a natural home for any crypto fans as a place receptive to interesting discussions with no danger of having your account shut down for 'breaking the rules'.

But remember to have fun and engage with people.

Hive five!

Hello @steevc, thanks so much for promoting my post. Yeah, I see btc running really up. My hope is Hive would go beyond $1 for good.

$HIVE should be worth more considering how useful it is. Just have to tell the world!

!PIZZA

I also said the same a few times. Hive could easily go above $10 USD. But nowadays many people start a massive selling as soon as it moves up a bit, and they push (and keep) down the price of Hive.

I give you some !PIZZA.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best.

Good reminder about what's important and having perspective. It's so easy to get tunnel vision into our own small view of life (and especially in online activities/communities)

Thanks also for the suggested author's to read - checking the all out now...

Have a great weekend @steevc and everyone!

You've hit the nail on the head here Steve.
We've all been around long enough to know that we needed our own platform where we can post about our interests etc without the danger of the website shutting down or doing a bunk.
The money earning potential is a secondary consideration for many of us lucky enough to live in prosperous countries and who do not need more money.

Some are not so lucky!

I have been on various platforms that shut down, so that content is gone. I do have backups of some, so I could potentially put it back online, but it would need some processing. I think Hive is much more resistant to that.

!BEER

I hope hive is more resistant too. 👌👍
I used the method you mentioned about redirecting our posts from that other place.
It worked a treat.
I might do an update post on the process in case anyone wants to do it?
I'm hoping that the redirects will improve hives rank in search. If everyone did it. It would make a big impact on hives visibility vs the other place.

With my old posts nobody is likely to see them as they are censored, but if they do they will be directed here. We need more SEO.

Hey @molometer, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

I saw the post of Dan but your reminder kicked my as... to go and tweet, almost missed, hugh!

Thanks for the curation list to visit, let's see if I can find the time.

Cheers
