Why I'm working at Splinterlands

in #hive2 years ago (edited)

It's quite interesting how life unfolds.

If you'd have asked me 2 years ago whether I'd be working at/for a company in the near future, my answer would have probably been: "No, I prefer to work on my own projects."

Fast forward to today, and I'm more than happy to be working at Splinterlands. Not only because I believe in game-fi/play2earn to be the future of gaming and Splinterlands is clearly leading the way. But also due to Splinterlands providing a great framework/environment for structured working while still giving an independent spirit like myself the room to expand & flourish.

Interestingly enough, this combination of structure & chaos has been quite fruitful for my work drive and the projects I've been working on.

I'm actually super excited to witness the synergy of my work at Splinterlands and my ambitions/what I strive for as a Hive witness, Hive developer & -proponent. The tools and projects I'm working on, besides providing value to Splinterlands, have something in common: they're enhancing the Hive open-source ecosystem.

Some more than others, but what's sometimes been lacking in my humble opinion is complete maintenance for community-led projects, which isn't easy because developers usually have their own projects.

With Splinterlands relying on Hive as a crucial part of its ecosystem, there's obviously the need for well-maintained Hive-specific tools. And this creates, in my opinion, a perfect symbiosis where Hive (& its open-source ecosystem) directly benefits from the success & involvement of Splinterlands, and Hive in return provides a fast, reliable & powerful blockchain. Super-synergy!

Last but not least (and this is just my personal opinion and disruptive brain speaking - wasn't sure if I'll add this, but here we go) maybe in the future I can help build a Hive-related EVM sidechain. I've been thinking about something like this before BSC was even a thing, but I only got 1 brain and 2 hands. :'D

I strongly believe for EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) to be the gold standard of smart contracts and low-gas-fee EVM-compatible chains, such as BSC, Polygon, and Avax are already reaping the benefits & attracting a good chunk of users by providing a cheap eth alternative.

And with this so many talented developers & engineers working at the company, I can only imagine what we could build in that regard.

Anyway, just wanted to share my experience working at Splinterlands with you.

Thanks for reading so far!

Oh, and before I forget. If you appreciate what I'm doing for Hive and want to support my work, then you can vote for me as a Hive witness here: https://hivesigner.com/sign/account-witness-vote?witness=therealwolf&approve=1

Hive on!

Wow, nice experience. I would also like to work with @splinterlands, but on the art side, it would be an amazing experience. ♥

EVM on Hive... do it. Congrats on your new gig.

I guess , I read you after long time.
Happy to know that SL team is in strong hands.

I read all that.... I don't normally, lol. Still pretty neat. What are you plans for yourself next?

That's so cool mate. I am sure the guys at Splinterlands are treating you well. :)) I have been a huge fan of Inji, sadly it's not on the cards right now. But do whatever makes you happy. That's more important! If you don't mind me asking, what role are you going to play in the team?

1000% here, been pushing for smart contracts as much as I can. I really believe that is the #1 need for Hive, second only to onboarding.

The upside of EVM is that it makes it easy for projects to "move" projects or to find developers who are already familiar with the language/framework.

Hey Guys, can't we develop a framework that makes it easier for the existing project of EVM chains to transition to Hive Smart Contracts (whenever they come) easily? Is it a matter of a lot of work or feasibility itself?

We definitely need smart contracts!

EVM also means open to all EVM apps.

Everything could come to hive without building forms from scratch.

Would be big.

But it sounds like a complex task, I mean someone in the past tried it and i never heard a single word again about it.

Most problems are IMO around the " how to run" with government if hive can be used as a gas token.

POS on it? But how should it work? Own token for transactions and write into hive?

What would be your solution?

And another thing, EVM could provide soft wallets hive could really need.

With RC delegations ( our of pool) it could be the soft version of hive.

Use it without hive and pay the RC fee in L2 token. Demand for both.
