I pointed the camera the other way...

in #hivefilm3 years ago

I filmed myself today.

(Yet I much prefer the camera to be pointing the other way.)

Strange that it has been filmed in portrait mode too, which is practically sacrilege in the video world 😂

This came about because a record label I’ve done some video work for wanted to get some crew talking about their experiences on the project. They’re going to use these video on their social media to ramp up the project/product.

So I said yes, and setup a rare sincere little piece to camera.

I’m sending them a pre-edited version of my ramblings ready for them to edit/use in whatever social media way they choose.

I filmed this in my office, next to my desk.
I have a tendency to over think things and try to make them look epic:.. but on this occasion I purposefully lit the scene with daylight and popped on a mic. That’s about it.

I’m no massive stranger to being on camera but it took ages for me to warm up.
It’s a proper skill and I admire anyone who can talk openly and freely on camera.

I figured that was the key - just to talk freely, with all the ‘ummm’s and ‘ah’s of a normal conversation.
It felt better to not have to try and aim for it to be perfect.

I will share the video once it goes live in a couple of weeks time 😎

Cheers for reading, @ashtv.

It takes some courage though 😊

I'm an Computing teacher, so I have to make video instructions every week for remote learning. I'm screen sharing and giving instructions, so I suppose I'm focusing on something. Therefore, I'm less conscience about myself.

That’s great. Teaching in general is a huge skill in developing a certain way of presenting information. I did a years teaching on a BTEC course. It was a baptism of fire!

Stood in front of teenagers, trying to be interesting and confident, but feeling like I have no idea on what to say next! 😂

Must be so great to not feel so self conscious. I guess if you really know your subject it helps too.

Cheers for the comment :)

Good for you! I can totally relate to this feeling, even though I acted in my latest microbudget project ( in 2018/19 )

It’s outstanding you can act in your own work! Kudos!

Cheers man but, in all honesty, it was more of a necessity than based on my acting skills, as this was literally a two men project ( and these two men were even on different continents; Portugal and North Carolina, USA ). It won’t come as a surprise to you that we ended this little YouTube serial prematurely, after 6 short episodes.

😂 Its on rare occasions the the film maker himself do appear on camera.

Been able to talk freely on camera is a skill I admire too. But till then the 'uhm’s' and 'you know' can fill up for me 😂😂

Would be expecting the video. Wanna hear what you feel about a job you participated in 😉

Haha yeah mate, it’s a skill I’m working on.
I’ll make sure I share the project when it’s out :)

It's good to see your portrait here even though I was expecting to see someone else's. Can't wait to see the video.

Thats a different project. I agree that talking on camera openly and freely is a difficult skill. I've only done it a few times (nothing professional or anything) and I'm always like "why do I sound like a really bad actor right now?" Lol

Haha that’s the exact feeling!

Yeah, for reality tv shows I wonder if they choose people because of comfort/talent with speaking on camera or if everybody sounds like an idiot at first, until they relax and get used to it and begin to speak normally?

Reality TV definitely take advantage of those talking on camera nerves! They can twist and manipulate what is already a delicate atmosphere.
