Toto joins Hive

TL;DR (too long, didn't read)

Toto here.

I'm more than meets the eye.

I write awesome content, read it.
Don't expect images, tho.

Toto says hello

Greetings, fellow Hivers.

toto.jpg

You may call me Toto. I come in peace. Also: run for your life.

As I came to stay, I would like to introduce myself to the Hive members.

First things first, shout out to my men: @deepresearch and @monti33 for bringing me to Hive.
Also: gods have mercy on their souls, for little they knew what primeval power they've unleashed inviting me here.

Secondly, kudos to all the coders and people behind the Hive and the apps ecosystem for making the great platform available.

Last but not least, thanks to all the creators on Hive for making it the living, breathing, welcoming community it is.

Toto's life

Without further ado, let's fill in some personal details, ladies and gentlemen and anyone in-between and beyond, shall we:

I have an actual scientific degree, obtained from the very reputable university, in comparative and historical linguistics, with focus on ancient languages; mainly Latin, Greek, Vedic, Sanskrit, and Pali as well as their respective literatures, cultures and so on, and so forth.

Also, in my capacity of a self-taught coder, I dabbled in creation of digital tools for use in linguistic studies.

Recently, after some years at the university, I've put my academic career at hold to pursue my other interests, including but not limited to: coding, coding, and — you guessed it — coding.

Toto's journey

The journey that brought me to my current whereabouts has been full of adventure and a long one.

And yes, this superhero has a fascinating origin story in the world ridden by misery :), story "of how he fought, fished, hunted/worked all night/thought giddy climbed new mountains/named the sea/some of the last researchers even write/love made him weep his pints/like you and me".^[Yeah, I tend to drop a line of poetry into every conversation. This one is from "[A shilling life will give you all the facts]" by W. H. Auden.]

As a result I am one of those self-made, self-taught, battle-hardened old-time nomads^[Who goes by the name Toto. Riiiight...] (it's helluva hyphens for such a short sentence, isn't it?) with many unexpected skills and random pieces of long-forgottent knowledge under my belt.
And some famously questionable fashion choices.

(For the visualisation of Toto's questionable fashion choice we refer the reader to fig. 1 below).

Toto's motivation

The underlying set of ideas is so compelling to me, and the technology used seems to be such an effective way of enforcing those priciples in practice that I decided to join Hive for a long haul. Like I am going to hang around forever. For. Ever.
Pitfalls of indiscriminately making great platforms accessible to anyone, I guess.

I'm really into: acquiring brand new skills, honing the old ones (drawing, gardening, woodworking, combat sports, parkour...), obtaining more knowledge (coding, STEM, new languages) and embarking on always new travel far beyond the horizon, where no Toto been before.

And I seriously hope y'all are really into hearing about that, 'cause you surely will when I start posting.
And gosh, am I going to post.

Toto vs posting

Armed with no prior knowledge of Hive whatsoever, I carefully formulated the following posting strategy for the next couple of weeks:

  • throw everything at the wall and wait what sticks.

Or as a repressed man in a suit would put it: I intend to share on a regular basis a plethora of thoughts on a range of topics with the broad audiences on Hive.

Toto's Code of conduct

The rules I go by when posting:

  • Thou shalt respect the unspoken code of conduct of Hive.
  • Thou shalt offer valuable, provocative and unique content.
  • Thou shalt convey thy message in a respectful and considerate manner. Thou shalt put truth before courtesy, tho.
  • Thou shalt respect thy fellow Hiver in the comment section. Thou shalt pack quite a punch behind thy comebacks, tho.
  • Thou shalt assume good will and honest mistakes on part of your fellow Hiver, unless consistently proven otherwise.
  • Thou shalt not be ashamed to change thy own views when faced with a new evidence.
  • Thou art allowed to write in a jokingly manner, for it pleases the forces of the Digital.
  • Thou shalt not be bothered to put images in thy posts unless thou really feel like doing so.

Toto is not the poster you are looking for

As an old Jedi once said "This is not the poster you are looking for", if:

  • you are looking for a hill to die on, or for an open invitation to a flame war.

Once our views has been clearly and fully stated and no one is convinced into changing their position it's over.
Unless there are some new facts to present, further going back and forth accomplishes nothing.
Feel free to quote any of my content and write a critical review, tho.

  • you are looking for conspiracy theories, NWO, UFO, flat-earth, big-pharma, contact to our lizard overlords etc.

I hold no interest whatsoever in such topics.
    Goodspeed scrolling away.

  • you are looking for personal information about me.

If you can not find a particular piece of information in my posts to date, it means I am not willing to share it. Period.

Toto is the user you are looking for

If I am however the user you are looking for (yes, yes, yes!!!), here is the deal (subject to change without prior notice).

The bulk of my writing will be in English.
Sparingly I may post in Italian, Polish and Russian.

Hovewer, as a rule of thumb, I am not going to publish translations for any of my content.
Even if I should post on a very similar topic in another language, the post will be a substantial rewrite, with a different take on the subject.

Majority of my posts should fall into one of the following, made-on-the-spot, hodgy-podgy (seriously, what is going on with those hypens) categories:

the stream of thought
: — catch-all category.
Variety of topics, mostly humanities: literature, poetry, rarely visual arts, maybe some personal remarks and comments. Anything really.
Short, ocassionally witty, purely opinion-based pieces.
Some may even be engaging enough to actually read them.

the pressing matters
: — longer, reasonably well-researched, mostly fact-based, often densly-hypenated posts.
All things of an immediate importance: ethics, human identity and human well-being -- especially in the light of advancements in bio-/technology; enviormentalism; future societies, etc.

poking the holes
: — "ethical hacking" of ideas, I guess.
I point out what I consider annoying flaws in an otherwise fine worldview. I mostly take on the views I hold myself.
Terse, possibly overly so -- I describe the issue without elaborating on it too much. I rarely have any solution to offer.
More of "gauging the eyes" than "poking the holes", really.

skill sharing
: — kinda tutorials.
What it says on the can: pieces of practical knowledge with easy to follow explanation.
Those may actually contain some stray images.
I try to offer an original angle, even if I present well-known subject.

Toto's posting schedule

There is none.
I'v got life.
Nonetheless you might reasonably expect no less than one and no more than three posts a week.

Toto over and out

That's all folks.

Really glad to be here and looking forward to happy Hypenatin... I mean Hiving forever and ever after.
