Derrick Broze shares a behind-the-scenes look at how the 2-part investigation Justice Delayed came to be.

In early June I began writing what would eventually become a 5-part series focused on allegations of sexual abuse in Utah. My initial report was sparked by the Utah County Sheriff’s announcement of an investigation into “ritualized child sexual abuse”.

Throughout my series I examined the various elements of the Sheriff’s investigation, including potential suspects (here too), previous claims of ritual abuse in Utah, and the curious case against Utah County Attorney David Leavitt. I also explored the accusations of ritual abuse of children relating to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), commonly known as the Mormon Church.

While patiently waiting for updates from the Utah County Sheriff’s office concerning the focus of their investigation, I began to receive numerous tips from people all over the United States who had previously lived in Utah, or formerly been involved with the LDS.

I appreciate you undertaking the difficult research into the noxious corruption that seems endemic to religious empires. It is emotionally jarring to contrast the apparently common image of morally upright LDS families with the hedonistic leadership in these kinds of organizations, underscoring the obvious propaganda with which I was indoctrinated as a youth. These outrageous features of organized religions are not included in what we are taught, resulting in almost continuous disillusion as we learn of them later in life, and once we have accepted some doctrine or another, as most people find advisable during their pursuit of families and careers, it becomes extremely difficult to overcome our faith in what we have grown to believe is sacrosanct, whether we end up aligned with religion or another doctrinal mechanism.

The Epstein affair should impact Trump and Clinton supporters no less than these revelations regarding LDS church officials, and the history of the Catholic Church, have Christians. It is our nature to belong to groups, and cognitive dissonance makes learning that the leaders of such groups have always been horribly corrupt traumatic.
