This is my Passover message. It is Israel focussed but its message is universal.
Never before, even in the most vile, draconian tyrannies, has an entire nation's population [Israel's] been imprisoned in their homes and families prevented from coming together on the most important community religious night of the calendar.
This is the most gross and wide scale infringement of basic human rights that has ever occurred, in the history of any democratic state.
And it occurs when there is no properly constituted [Israeli] government, when the holdover Prime Minister is under criminal indictment and was due to have his trial commence before he suspended the Courts and when the former Speaker of the Knesset refused to comply with an order of the Supreme Court.
Former UK Supreme Court Justice Jonathan Sumption, QC, has raised similar concerns in the UK, saying the country is suffering 'collective hysteria'.
Why has the Supreme Court not intervened in these circumstances?
Why is there not vocal opposition in the Knesset [Parliament]?
It is up to us, Am Israel [People of Israel], on this eve of the Festival of Freedom, to protest and resist this tyranny.
If we do not do so then Israeli democracy, rule of law, civil rights and basic freedoms will have been extinguished without a fight.
