Split Mountain WhiteWater Report

in #kayaking2 years ago

This is basically a dump of images i took while packrafting. I did loose my phone but these were backed up so i'm finally getting around to it.

CLASS 3

Split mountain run is a permit required section of the Green River with about 4-5 named 2+ and class 3 rapids.
There was one rapid called "SOB" that got 3 of the 4 of us with a pretty nasty hole that we hit and and flipped us.
The other rapids weren't too bad though I think moonshine did flip one of the 4 of us.
In general there aren't any technical moves just some holes to know to avoid and some big waves at the named rapids.
I think we ran it at about 7200cfs. The previous week there was a big flow from flaming gorge so it was up at 14-16k... that would have been pretty intense but probably still pretty doable. It can get pretty low by june closer to 2000cfs. Apparently you can run it even much lower.

Took us about 2.5hrs ... the shuttle is a good 40 minutes unless you drive dirt roads pretty fast.
You could do the river in closer to 2hrs but we took our time and floated some of the flatter water.

It's about 8.8 miles from rainbow park put in.

PICTURE DUMP

I'll share a bit about some of the images... but mostly just showing them off to document the trip and not well organized because that's one of the flaws of PeakD is the lack of a good way to rearrange images.

Warming up in a riverside hot spring... river was plenty cold.

A good victory shot probably after going through a good wave train or rapids. Just one of the guys that joined on the trip.

The surrounding area near Dinasaur National Monument which is on the Utah Colorado Border.

There were some still sections but plenty of these wavy sections as well.

These were the brothers that invited me on the permit required trip.

The peaks around us were pretty spectacular

Some of the rivers i do I don't have a lot of time to take pictures with my cell phone but this river had plenty of flat sections where you could just admire the canyon

We started with rain and then it cleared up pretty nicely.

Another couple shot of the brothers who actually bought the same packraft that i got as well and we didn't even know eachother at the time. Alpacka Gnarwhal.

This is the campground at the end of the route... after this the river is pretty flat and slow for dozens of miles.

I think i took this when we were done... i actually can't remember. But i think quail are fun birds... and the S22 10x lens does a good job.

I didn't film the rapids much but i did get out at one and then come back to run it again and took some pics.

This looks like an amazing trip. I have always wanted to go white water rafting, but just have never gotten around to it. I need to go do it before I get too old.

I am willing to take you on some rivers nearby. I have a second kayak that you can use. I often am looking for weekday person because some of the rivers are best with two cars to be able to shuttle.

That would be pretty cool. Are you still up north or are you back in Utah County?

What should I envy first? Perfect landscape, perfect river, perfect photos! Your post has few words , but a lit of beauty!

Hello there Mr Jarvie. I actually came here to ask you a question but saw the pictures you posted it's breathtaking.

Anyway on with the question. I saw your video on bittrex change hive token in 6minutes or something like that.

I just registered for bittrex yesterday successfully and wanna ask you this question as I posted on your YouTube channel.

So the question is, is it possible to transfer the USD to my debit card in Malaysia?
