My powerful and stupid dreams

in #life4 years ago

I dream frequently and although I can't recall all of it, I generally wake up and remember some of what I just had going on in my head and every now and then something comes into the cinematic universe that is my head and really makes me wonder "how did that get in there?"

Sometimes my dreams are scary, sometimes they are reunions of people I haven't seen in quite some time. Most of the time they are ludicrous just like I am sure most people's dreams are. The best kind of dreams that I have are the ones where I realize in the dream that I am dreaming and still manage to stay in the dream. Therefore I can do whatever I want knowing that I am not going to face any consequences. Normally I am able to fly or throw fireballs out of my hands at that point. Guns in my dreams are always useless.

In the past 2 days I have had dreams that connected to one another, almost as though night 2 was a sequel of the first dream. The dream itself isn't so strange as it is that things snuck in there that i forgot that I know and also a scenario that I kinda wish would happen.

In the dream I am back in the United States in my childhood home that (in the dream) my parents still live in despite the fact that they moved away from there a long time ago. Throughout the day I try to contact some of my buddies that still live there only they all blank me. As the day goes on my brother accidentally leaves his phone on in front of me and I see there is a chat group that has a lot of my friends in a group chat. I find out that there is actually a party planned at 8pm and everyone is coming to see me.

Then later, i notice commotion in front of the house as a ton of people are all parking out there, very poorly and blocking traffic. So now I have to spend the next couple of hours pretending as though I don't notice and haven't looked out the windows.

The crazy thing to me in this dream is that several of the people who ended up attending don't actually live in that city, or even in the United States. Two of the people who were in attendance are dead in real life. It was at that point that I realized it was a dream and even though I tried to "hang on" to the dream it quickly faded. Normally once I realize I am dreaming I wake up.

It was tragic, because it was really nice to see my pals who are no longer alive. This has happened before with my Grandparents in dreams and it becomes pretty sad right before the dream ends and I wake up feeling down.

At one point a friend of mine (again, that I haven't seen in years) starts doing crazy card tricks the likes of which the cards are all flying through the air. I am involved in the trick and I have to catch "my card" in the air. I do so an get the queen of hearts. It is at that point that the house band, who were wearing Slayer T-shirts, start playing a song called "Queen of Hearts."

Here's the thing about this song: I have knowingly heard this song maybe twice in my life. I had no active memory of it because it was out of "circulation" many years ago and I haven't thought about it at all, ever. I was too young when it was released to realize what it was and when I started to like music this was not the type of music that I was into. To be honest, before I had this dream if someone had said "You know that song Queen of Hearts?" my answer would have been NO.

So how did this song, in its entirety, make it into my brain well enough for it to be featured in my dream being played by a metal house band? Strange.

When things like this happen I tend to believe some of those stories about how our brains are actually a lot more powerful than we are aware of and that most humans are not capable of harnessing more than 10% of their actual brainpower. There is no good reason why this song would be in my head to the level that it was but yet, there it was... all of it.

I guess this isn't really all that interesting to just anyone but it was to me because I am just blown away at that last part. Have you ever had some sort of weird thing creep into your dreams that made you wonder how it got there?

Sort:

That is such a good song! I have it on one of my playlists. I used to love it when I was a kid. Great stuff. That is totally weird that you remember it even though it was pretty innocuous to you. No doubt it was in some TV show or movie and your subconscious locked onto it. Or maybe there is something much more mystical going on. Perhaps you should find a casino to play some cards at. It might be a sign. Definitely interesting no matter how you look at the situation.

hmmm, good point. There are two casinos where I live, as soon as they fire back up i'll go give it a try. If my first hand of blackjack has a queen of hearts in it, i will be convinced.

Ooh, you will have to let us know how that goes. My wife and I are steering clear of the casinos for the time being, just to be safe...

Oh for sure that happens to me.

I have recurring episodes where I am working for one of the companies I hated working for. I sometimes get those strange implants of things I shouldn't know that well and believe that my subconscious sees and records much more than I would have consciously thought.

Hopefully next time you pull the Ace of Spades!

oh yeah, the Ace of Spades would have made a lot more sense to be in my dream and because the band members had Slayer shirts on. That one's always a winner.

I too frequently dream of working again in jobs I hated. That must be a thing for a lot of people. It's more terrifying than horror nightmares.

I'm gonna throw something out there that everyone probably already knows: You can't have someone in your dreams that you never met. I also found out that people rarely dreampt in color until movies and television programs started being in color as well.

You been playing Persona 5?

I have played it, a long time ago... why?
