This is Halloween, this is Halloween!

What’s up, Hive? I’m home, still shaking off the last week of life which was brutal. We had a death in the family, sadly. Much of the last few days was preparing for the funeral and ceremonies that followed. During that, I had three proposals to submit pitches for in the closing days of the Helios Ideathon. Halloween fell in there as well. I took @guthrie and his half-brother to a haunted hayride Halloween Event and the night of we prepared treat bags for the house while we all went to a small Halloween town in St. Paul that shut down several blocks for houses that go way over the top for the annual festivities.

@guthrie has been living through the golden years of his life with horror. He’s been obsessed with horror, gore and being scared since he was little. This is no surprise to me as I was at his age, too. I have clear memories of having a story I was writing at age 6 confiscated which lead to me being sent to the guidance councilor. Everything he’s watching, until recently, this is. I finally started letting him watch a few slashers and classics that push it a bit. This year for Halloween, he wanted to go as Freddy and he wanted me to go as Jason Voorhees, so that’s how it happened.

Sadly, during school, he saw a few kinds in costumes getting picked on by older kids and it affected him. He convinced himself he was going to get made fun of while we were out trick-or-treating. I also think some of the anxiety was because he was out with his parents. He may be hitting that age where it’s no longer cool to be going out as a family. All kids go through that phase I guess, but it’s still a bummer especially considering Halloween has always been our family’s favorite holiday. All in all, he still did pretty good as far as a candy haul.

I’ve been trying my best to stretch out the holiday since today is still Samhain […well, up until a couple of hours ago]. I’m going to start bringing down the decorations tomorrow and preparing the windows with plastic insulation for the long Minnesota winter to come. Much of the time this afternoon was spent preparing the yard for the season. I even managed to pull up the last of the potatoes that I planted back in the spring. More on that in a later Hive post. For now, I hope you enjoyed this blog about our Halloween. Have a great night!

I really love how Americans get so into Halloween. I've heard it a great time and one day I hope to experience it in America. In my country it's less of a big deal.

Yeah, @becca-mac. I love that about the US, too. Halloween has been my favorite holiday since I was a kid.

I'll be there one day and will experience it for myself.

Super awesome photos @kommienezuspadt.

Thanks, @fijimermaid! At least I got the photos.

It's too bad that kids have to be like that. I remember when I was a kid I wore a Star Trek shirt to school and got made fun of. I never wore it again. Which is sad because I loved that shirt.

Yeah, kids can be awful to one another. Sad to hear that. I'm a Trekkie, but I wouldn't have made fun of you, @bozz. :P
