Loss

This... It all just feels so empty now.

The Good Lady wafted her hand at seemingly nothing from where she lay on the couch in the darkened living room. Both of us were flumped in despair on various surfaces. The blinds were closed and a dank weight of sad emptiness lay thickly upon the air.

Her voice was heavy with sadness and I could offer little comfort as I was feeling much the same way.

I wondered if I should prod at her with my penis. It wasn't perfect but sometimes it worked.

I know. I know. A wise person once told me, that this too shall pass. And she was right.

My tone was leaden as I too struggled to enunciate my sense of loss. We had not expected it and it had struck us like Thor's hammer.

I rubbed a hand at my forehead like a nobbly old caterpillar traipsing over a leaf.

I didn't expect the end to come so quickly.

The Good Lady uttered mournfully.

Yes, me neither.

We sat for a while in companionable silence interspersed with the occasional melodramatic sigh.

Loss is a funny thing. You can never prepare enough. Never tell how it is going to affect you. Each time in life when you experience it, it hits you in both the same way as the last and yet completely differently.

Well, whether we expected it or not, Vikings is finished. I suppose we can always search for something new to watch?

I perked up slightly at the thought of there being a way forward. After all, you couldn't mourn forever, could you?

Something new?? I loved Vikings. I thought it would go on and on and on.

The Good Lady made a noise that could have been a burp or the sound of something insecty being swallowed.

Maybe it was a sob?

I know. I thought it would go on forever too. It seemed like it would never end. I knew when Ivar the Boneless died that we were near the end but I still couldn't believe it when it finally happened.

Better Call Saul?

I ventured.

Has it got Vikings in it?

The Good Lady murmured dolefully.

No. It hasn't.

The silence built up again.

Stranger Things?

I tried to sound upbeat.

Stranger Things? Has it got Vikings in it?

No.

Hmmph.

I flicked my phone up and scoofed around with my finger.

Hey! Hey! What about this?

I joogled my phone excitedly in her direction.

Has it got Vikings in it?

The Good Lady whined without looking.

I stood and walked over, plopping my phone on her heaving mournful bosoms and clicking play on the trailer that was on the screen. In no time at all there were screams and howls emanating from the phone as on it, a man was running about with an axe chopping fuck out of everyone in his path.

Oh yes my darling. Let the mourning end. Vikings Valhalla, here we come!

And once more, all was well with the world.

Sort:

Wails of despair ripped across the cosmos at the end. I have not ventured out into Valhalla yet...sniff. Is it good then? The Valhalla??

I haven't started it. We only just finished Vikings last night. We were like WTFUNKZ!? We totally had it in our heads that there was another season and it just stopped. I was genuinely like, oh baws, what now!?!

Hopefully Valhalla is good, I will let you know! :0D

Excellent, thanks! I finished the last episode a while back and am still disgruntled that it ended lol. I can't bring myself to start the new series as it feels sort of like a betrayal and honestly, I am not sure it can compare with the original. Who knows, it might be even better!

I feel all those things. If it's shit I will be gutted is it's great it will feel wrong to have betrayed Ragnar and all his sons! Although Ragnar was by far the best!

Yes! Let's hope the new has as much badassery as the first. I will settle in to watch over the winter assuming I am over my hissy fit lol

The trailer has a lot of axe'ery. There was bits flying everywhere!

It's practically winter here now. Brrrr!!

Time to tuck in then hahaa. Still in the hot times here but a couple of mornings were almost pleasant. Don't tell me any plot twists when you start watching, just whether it is good or not LOL

Tell me you guys have watched the Last Kingdom...my absolute favorite viking show of all time! Even the picky man that Howie is about shows loved the tell of Utred of Bebbenber (No, I seriously doubt that's how it's spelled 😆)

You can always read the original historical fiction novels by Bernard Cornwell. My public library has the entire series. Yours probably does, too.

I read em all from they library!! I wrote liked them although they could be Bit slow they were good

Oh my god aye!! That was what we watched before we got on to Vikings!! It was amazing!! We loved it so much. Did you know they are filming a movie, Seven Kings Must Die can't fecking wait!!

Bebbenber. Who knows how the feck that one is spelled!! 🤣🤣

Everybody will have the "loss feeling" in this world. I think it touches one's life forever as you sometimes remember it in the rest of your life and live your life according to it.

You do indeed. I was surprised by how much we were gutted. I thought it went on for another season!

Hahaha. Started out sounding like a case of premature ejaculation. I didn't fall for it, though, cos I knew it was a snare and the true different case was going to pop out of the blues soon.

So y'all love Vikings that much, cool. Game of Thrones gave me that same feeling when it ended. Are both of you GOT fans too?

Ah, GoT was a big hit in this house too!! Really looking forward to getting stuck into the House of the Dragon. It seems to be getting good reviews!

I will need to be less obvious with my snares!

Isn't that awful when you come to the end of a series you really connect with? That's happened a few times with us. We're re-watching Boardwalk Empire (HBO MAX) now and just have a few episodes left. I forgot just how good it was. We'll probably stream the new season of Handmaid's Tale after that but it always creeps me out a bit how close we're getting to that fictional world.

Oh yes definitely. We loved boardwalk empire, it will actually be a good one to revisit!

Handmaid's tale is strangely looking not such a possible alternate reality. It's happening over here to a lesser degree too

We just wrapped it up last night and, damn, it is just so well done. The fifty-one year old me saw it in a completely different light that I did when I first watched it. I understood it on a deeper level.

The political division is even happening in Canada. An art instructor we had in Montreal was telling us about all of the tension building there, she said it was very much exported from the U.S. So sad.

Enjoy your weekend!

It's a very good point, I watched it when it first came out and I bet I would appreciate it even more now!

Dashed politics and associated nonsense. It impinges on people's right to just live in peace!!

Have a good one mate!

Wow... Only noticing now that I've missed so many stories... I suppose I got catching up to do today 😕
How even

You been out? I haven't been on much, I am on holiday, woot woot!

Whatsupppp! Well nout really out.. But busy bud. Real busy...

Still didnt get around to those stories...

But they aint going nowhere are they 😂..

Enjoy your holidays 😎😎😁 im waiting on December.. Going to the seaside

It will come soon enough! A good time to holiday

I never imagined she would like an action show! There should be lots of possibilities :) ...

She had looked some in the party but I didn't expect her to like this one. All them axes. But she totally loved it. I softened her up with the last Kingdom first 😀😀

Whatever works 🙌🙌🙌

Haha this is a good one and funny enough, I'm an extra in Vikings: Valhalla, season 1, 2 and 3. It was brilliant and it's filmed really close to my home town, alas, Netflix have said no more filming until season 3 releases in 2024. Now I'm destitute.

!PIZZA

Aw no way. That's so cool! Well, not cool that they have finished filming for the moment but cool none the less!!

Yeah it was deadly out there I loved it, apparently this coming summer an Assassins Creed tv show is being filmed in the same studio. I think it'll also be produced by Netflix, fingers crossed I can get on that!

I read about that. It should be good, hopefully you do get a chance to be on it! It's certainly more interesting than most jobs!

Prodding her with your... The woman wants Vikings, I say chase her with an axe! !LOL !LUV

It has been called a chopper on occasion... Alright, only by me LOL!!! :0D

Hahhahhaah! Whatever gets you in the mood! When you get to a certain age you have to get creative so you can chop effectively!!!

Someone needs to make a mini-series about the exploits of William Wallace. Take the movie and expand on it. If the right director/producer took a shot at it, it could bee magic.

That is an excellent idea! Can you imagine. The battles the swords and the kilts! I would be all in!

Oh my word I remember feeling exactly the same thing! I also experience it when I finish a good book, it's like the world has suddenly gone silent.

I'm so glad that you found something to take up the call. ⚔️

untitled.gif

Oh that feeling, you are right. It is exactly the same as when you finish a good book. The only advantage a book has is that you know you are nearing the end!!

Ragnar, I salute you!! Sköl!!!

That is so true! I don't know how many times I have looked at the book end getting thinner and thinner and a sense of absolute dread washes over me. The struggle is real.

Sköl!

I have done exactly the same. In fact just talking about it made me look anxiously over at my current book to reassure myself I hadn't yet hit the halfway mark!

I can feel my anxiety grow as the pages thin down and by the time there is only a smidgen left I already feel that dread creep in, it is most definitely a sinking feeling.

Indeed, sex can sometimes lift up sorrows. It is a medicine for unknown sadness and depression.

It is the best medicine! ;0)

I was caught up in the mood The Good Lady until I realised that she was mourning the end of a cinematic adventure. The end of wonderful things can bring sorrow.

Haha, it was indeed just a cinematic loss and kit in essence a real one. It is one we sorely felt though! 🙂

Ahhh, somehow our savagery always pokes its head out, to poke and prod lol. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose.

Haha, got me with the grim undertone, lets keep rockin strong Boom.

!BEER

I was l worried it was too grim at the start. Had to overegg it a tad though! :0D

Imagine the woman in front of you watching the Vikings fighting, especially that man who beheaded everyone. You will only die of fear.

Sounds alright!! Life is for the excitement! :OD

here. Try the Last Kingdom. "Uhtred son of Uhtred! 91% on rotten tomatos! It was my first furore into the vikings. Very good. Although you will have the whiny theme tune in your head for a year. Uhtred is a hybrid. The worst kind of viking.
untitled.gif

We watched that first. It was how I managed to get her into the whole Viking thing. The women don't seem to mind watching Uhtred gad about on screen for some weird reason... ;0)

Prancing around like a peacock riding everybody.

With his million wives and children 🤣🤣

There was one of them that was a witch and was the best looking woman I've ever seen in my life.i even asked my wife if I could put up a poster of her in our bedroom.

skade_the_last_kingdom-4.jpg

Looking forward to Valhalla! Sounds promising. But don't want to get my hopes up.

And here I thought you were bawling over your Queen. You got the day off and everything!

Haha, I never went near the Queen nonsense. It was on every TV channel apparently!! Bloody toffs

I knew you wouldn't, but I hope the Good Lady recorded it for you. I am sure it is still on every channel. I keep on getting little texts about it from the news channels on my phone.

More than the funeral, it is gossip about the Royal Family. Seriously. Everything has been muted until it blows over.

Everyone and thing is using it as and excuse to not perform or deliver. The Good Lady paid extra for next day delivery of a thing on Saturday. Didn't come till Wednesday, when she worked it she was told it was the queen's funeral. Before that of course it was COVID. Bastards!

I get my money back when I don't get the overnight service delivered on time. They knew when they took the order, she wouldn't get it. They should have disclosed that information. Just another way for them to make out on us.

If she had gotten it on Sunday then I would say that perhaps there was a little bit of a delay, but getting getting it on Wednesday, they definitely knew she wasn't going to get it when she ordered it. Pfft. That's ridiculous.

Yeah, in the UK since COVID customer service has gone down the pan. Now they know they can get away with it they use anything as an excuse. It's all going to hell!

Bezos still gives me my money back as does the Post Office. But we haven't had real customer service since COVID either. Nobody wants to work. People still don't pay their rent and are waiting for another handout.

The world is going to hell in a handbasket.

We all have things we will mourn, but we should not be judged on it or told how to do it.

Have you watched Ragnarok on Netflix? Not exactly vikings, but it is made in Norway and features the old gods in an interesting way.

Is that the comedic one? I think one night I started watching one myself and it was a humourous sort of one that might have been that but I wasn't much of a fan

Loss is a funny thing. You can never prepare enough. Never tell how it is going to affect you. Each time in life when you experience it, it hits you in both the same way as the last and yet completely differently.

Uh my so profound and poetic Boomy, it hit my emotional chords.

I like a bit of profound occasionally!

I was thinking of my cat when I wrote this. She passed away but I couldn't write about that 😀

Oh I understand....kitty heaven has one more angel. Loss is difficult to handle for some it takes more time to process and I know that many people avoid opening the subject knowing it brings pain. So I get it

You could always try The Last Kingdom. It has Vikings.

Done it! It was the starter! :0)

You're not watching the Queen stuff are you? Turn the bloody telly off!

Hell no man. The TV was off for all of today rather than risk any of that old cobblers!

Dammit. I should have arranged to loot and pillage that damnable royalist spectacle. I should start planning ahead for when Charlie 3 kicks the bucket. Yeah, sure, you betcha, we can get some Minnesotans with their lumberjack axes, donchaknow? That's where the real Vikings all moved. Named their sportsball team after 'em and everything.

I would have taken part in that looting and pillaging myself!!

I think some of the Scots might have retained some Viking too 😀

That's good to hear, @bingbabe had it on in the bedroom and it sounded like 'Songs of Praise' on fucking repeat! I had to put some heavy music on to combat the torment.

Aren't there some decent punk rock and metal ballads about opposing this monarchist nonsense? Or perhaps something slightly more subversive than that?

Hmm, I can't say I have looked. A little Opeth did the trick.

More my mood of late:

I was going to say that second track sounds a little proggy, then released it was Rush.. a band I am a fan of already. The new stuff I haven't heard.., and they sound distinctly different from the old stuff such as Hemispheres, 2012 etc..

The first track sounds a little Irish, with some Banjo's.., maybe you would like Trains?

Oh lordy. I actually feel physically sick when I see such ostentation. That and the songs of praise vibe too. Yuk

We are not preparing for loss. When the obsession with loss goes away, we feel better. We have to accept each loss and start anew

Indeed, women are greatly affected by the events of Vikings. The lady's cries are more than her moments of silence.

My Good Lady was certainly a fan of it and at first she thought it really wouldn't be her bag too!

The lady wants something quiet to watch to reassure her. I'll bring her a cup of tea or coffee to improve the mood. The drama in which the lady took place is exciting.

She does like a cup of tea!

You only do that, drop the phone on yours as they say out there :) and that's not all, I imagine the fritters leaving from that place haaaaaa don't blame me, you're the one to blame for me imagining the good lady's breasts and the phone there, but don't worry I'm very respectful

Lol, that makes me laugh. You are respectful and funny! :0)

You can take the silliest little thing and turn it into a funny post.

I hope the new show turns out to be worthy.

Vikings ! LOL

What a lovely content it was very poetic and i love it and it also sound like a message to the war happening between Russia and Ukraine if only they can read this maybe there will be peace again.

I think it might take a bit more than that for peace ever there!!

There's always a possibility that things can change it is an atom of faith.

I am a great believer that things will always work out!

Now that's the spirit

When in doubt, offer the penis! Lol it works less and less as time goes on sadly. Bugger that in my opinion!

We’ve had our share of sadness about a series that ends. That’s what makes a great series though, when they end it and leave it the fuck alone. It is obnoxious when these networks get fucking greedy and rehash all kinds of shit instead of letting something be finished and never touched again. Fuck off with reboots! Lol.

Oh good man, that's a very good point. Leave them be!! Some of the messes they have made of old shows by trashing them in reboots is ridiculous.

it works less and less as time goes on sadly

Lol, annoying eh!!
