To Try Again

Do you think it is time we tried again?

The words came from the Good Lady. She was standing by the window. Her back to me. Her words were fragile. Softly spoken lest they broke.

I stopped scratching my knackers and stood, moving over to her and placing a boomy arm around her shoulders,

Is it not a bit too soon?

I asked softly.

The Good Lady shook my arm from her shoulders and moved closer to the window wrapping her arms around herself as if feeling the cold through the glass.

I want to try again.

She said flatly.

She didn't look at me, just carried on forlornly staring out at the cold Scottish Spring morning beyond the glass.

I looked out too and spoke again, careful with my words.

After it went so wrong the last time, I thought we were going to leave it for a while before trying again?

My heart was heavy. I knew this was important to the Good Lady but really, after that last time, I had hoped we wouldn't rush things.

But here we were.

It felt too quick. Too soon. Old scars hadn't healed.

I don't care. I just want to try again.

She turned to me and I stepped involuntarily back from the ferocity of her gaze.

I racked my brain, thinking of a million ways to explain why I didn't think we should. Why I didn't want to. Why I thought that we hadn't left enough time since we last tried.

I didn't want us to go through such heartache and disappointment again and I knew deep in my gut that we needed time to recover after our last attempt.

But I couldn't deny her.

Ok, lass. If you think we should try again then try again we will.

I took her hand and led her to the kitchen.

There before us was a basket full of still-wet freshly washed laundry.

Smiling, we took an end each and hefted it out the back door and into the cold Spring sunshine.

It was almost March. Surely this time, it would fucking dry...?

Sort:

hahaahaaa....I was ready to start knitting you a blankie for the wee one and getting all soft inside. I know better and STILL fell for it lol

HAhahahah, I am glad it worked! I was struggling to stay serious in it as I knew that if I started being all jokey it would ruin it! :OD

Well you did a damned fine job....I hereby withdraw my congratulations to you and the Good Lady. Elsewise, kudos on the dry laundry, assuming you did indeed get some dry knickers lol

Side note...I should have known as your thumbnail is nearly a carbon copy of what I look like, laundry basket included hahaahaaa!!!

There's nothing worse than putting clothes out to dry them bring them in hours later and the fookers are still wet... frustrating 🤣🤣

I know, that's what happened to us a couple of days ago when it was sunny as anything, nothing dried!!! :0D

Haha did you ever worry about that stuff when you were 18? 🤣

Did I feck. In fact I was laughing about something similar earlier!

Ohh is that your next post?

Maybe, that would be a secret!!! :OD

One of the joys of living in the tropics of Australia was, hanging washing out where the humidity was so high it would not only take days to dry, by the time it was - it was mouldy.

Lol. You never think that when you grow up in a cold place. In your head everyone has it easier in hotter climes!

Hey, @meesterboom.

I had a feeling there would be a twist at the end of this, though I was actually hoping that you were really talking about what you were leading on about. Oh, well. I'll hold off on the congrats card for now. :)

Hey dude!! Hehe, yeah, I am awfully glad there was a twist to it. I don't think my sanity could take another one. They are mental! :OD

Well, yeah. But they do grow up with the possibility of being less mental. At least in my experience. :) Don't have firsthand knowledge with girls, though. I do have a granddaughter, but she's got a ways to go to know for sure.

I have high hopes that the future might not be this big mess of madness that the current state of play is. Although my daughter is worryingly exhibiting strong signs of being like her mother so I reckon I am in for some tough times!

Not sure if by big mess of madness you're referring to the state of the world as a whole, or referring directly to your daughter—the world gonna do what the world gonna do. Fortunately, with children, parents still have some influence for good in their lives in spite of everything happening around them. Until somewhere in the preteen/teen age. That seems to be where you learn whether or not you've gotten through. :) I guess it still happens after that but the relationship starts to shift.

It might be the world at large affecting everything in general. Nah, generally they are very good. Quite demanding. If anything, it's just me being an old bastard by the time I decided to have kids and struggling with how crazy and energetic they can be!

Well, I guess we'll hold out for being being able to carve out a sliver of sanctuary amidst all the chaos then.

And it is totally unfair how age treats us. Just when we've got things figured out it decides that the body that has been energetic and getting away with all kinds of things no longer can. Poof! When getting out of bed hurts more than actually doing something to deserve it, it's time to give the old aging process the what for! Haven't quite figured out how to do that, but I'll let you know if I come up with something. :) Bottle it. Sell it. Make billions. Blah, blah, blah.

How fortunate I am, where I live the clothes always dry because of the hot sun, I never imagined that many people suffer disappointments because of wet clothes

Hahaha, oh yes. Its a struggle to dry the damned things. Our houses are all misty and foggy with damp!

How unpleasant, I don't want to imagine being allergic and living with so much humidity, I guess I would die.

You would surely die. We are the Isle of the living dead. Most of us live depraved and cruelly short lives yearning for the warmth of the fires of hell :0D

I will no longer complain about the intense heat days.

Don't leave your towels in the washing machine too long or else when you dry your freshly washed penis you stink like a dirty dog. Somehow the odour attaches itself... to your skin.

I know that odour!!! It's a strange musky one. A guy in my work securely smells like that all the time. I used to think it was his balls :0D

I thought that it was a movie that opened action, as I progressed in reading I settled in the armchair to see how the end of the story was; I have a twisted mind, I never thought it was about hanging the clothes again
This time you played with our mind dear friend @meesterboom

terrible when you can't get your clothes to dry,

I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid afternoon

Hehe, I am glad I led you on a merry dance. When the good lady said to me that she wanted to try again my first thought was oh no, not more children!! So I wrote it like that :0D

you are great, I love your writings, you have an incredible mood that you have a beautiful night dear friend

Hehe, man, that is cool! I wish it were cold enough that we could do that! Instead we have a few weeks of snow followed by months of drizzle and grey coldness where nothing ever dries. Inlcuding ourselves!

I understand completely. The first couple of times I went over to the UK, I was surprised that even though the thermometer said it was much warmer, I was always cold. In Canada, When it's below 0, there's zero moisture ... so, as long as you dress for it, it's fine. In UK, it's damp ... always damp ... always cold ... right down to the bone

Which explains why folks in UK always wanted to go to a damp yet warm pub after work. ;-).

You can't beat a damp and warm pub!! Lol

Thats right, a girl I work with lived in Canada for a few years before coming back and she said the cold was amazing because it was a dry cold with dry snow and not everything being sodden wet and it made a huge difference. Here you have to wear waterproofs and warm things and more waterproof things. Fecking nightmare!

Come over in Summer, its sorta warm...mostly!

That was so wicked! I thought surely you'd be getting more than your slacks hung up :)

Hehe, I was leading you on big style to the wrong conclusion!!! :OD

I'll have to remember that next time I'm doing Laundry... The story is so much better than the action of the toss !

What a lovely hope-filled end to that heart-wrenching saga XD

Do you not have somewhere indoors it will dry? Or a dryer? O_O

Annoyingly. One thing we sorta missed getting when we moved in was a drier. I wanted to get one and stick it in the garage but the Good LAdy poo poo'd me and said it was a ridiculous notion.... Ha! Who is laughing now, certainly not her!

Well they are fire hazardous electricy guzzlers so I don't blame her. But if you don't have the space to indoor dry everything, they'll get your tougher clothes dry while the delicates hang off drying racks and/or furniture XD

I am tempted to throw them on the open fire and tell them to take their chances! There. That would learn them. Or me. Someone would learn something and that would be an end of it! ;O)

Sorry were you going to throw clothes on an open fire? I'm not sure who would learn what but that would definitely be an end of something XD

Hahahhaha..... I remember drying the clothing in the winter, how they were rock solid and still wet. But they smelled like winter. There are those 2 in one washers and dryers. Only that they end up a bit wrinkled in the end

I like thw smell of winter! I do not like the foosty smell of awfulness from clothes that will not dry! Its like bad feet!!

Hahahhaha yeahhh nasty. It's like you never washed them. Wear those at work and the boss will never disturb you😷😅

How fast I have read this, I was looking for more after realizing how well this had sank.
Will I be willing to try again after a first disappointment?
I don't trust my heart

Your must always try! To not try is but to die!

Thank you for this powerful one.
I will keep it in mind

You are welcome!

Thank the sweet and brassic morning air for that! I thought... I thought bad things.

It was either that or an open invite to a backdoor smash n grab retry. Hang on, what was being hung out to dry?!

Haha, if it had been anything other than wet washing it would have been me getting hung out to dry!!!

It was sunny as anything today, stuff dried. It was amazing! :0D

A few of my mates have had the snip this past year, risk free action ahoy!

Been nice here too, although you probably knew this :) Glad the frost has melted for ya!

I know it's risk free but I still have the fear of someone messing with my jubblies. They don't call them the crown jewels for nowt!!

Imagine not being able to spray your muck into someone cup!?

Haha, oh aye it's pure lovely out your way, we know!! Basturt 😃

I know what you mean, they have said it's all a bit sensitive around those parts for a little while after.

And I think you can still do the muck n cup, it's just blanks n powder! :O

I have heard from a guy in work that his swelled up gigantically for the first day or two and he had to wear control pants. Yeeks!!

One day maybe, or hopefully the good lady will go barren first and I don't need to bother ;0)

¡Watchout! Sir @meesterboom, lest our friend Taraz send you from Funland some of that almost invisible tiny raining or fog which freezes rock solid everything at mere contact. :D

We get that here already in Scotland!! It's a miracle we are ever dry or warm!!! :0D

However, as per your conversation with Asher... seems like God is on your side sometimes. :)

Sometimes is better than no times! I will take that!

Thanks for continuing to make Hive awesome.
