Lost Relics is quickly becoming my favorite NFT-based game. The gameplay loop is addicting and enjoyable, and the Easter event has had so many valuable "Golden Egg" drops that I've been able to F2P my way into a month of paid membership and a few valuable blockchain items.
Lately I've been learning to consistently beat Ash Woods. This dungeon is slower than some of the other beginner dungeons. The trade-off is that I am able to find many valuable resources and level up some of my skills like fishing and woodcutting.
Preparing for Battle
Since Lost Relics has a "hardcore" vibe, with all non-blockchain items being lost upon death, I always prepare carefully before entering a dungeon.
Here's what I brought with me into the Ash Woods for today's run.
I'm using the General Store bow and sword which offer the best affordable damage, though not that strong. I've got a Chocolate Sheep which isn't affordable -- last one sold for 30+ ENJ -- but I got it as a drop in a level-up loot box so now it's a part of my collection. This pet isn't super useful but it does break open loose boxes in the dungeons to save me a few clicks.
I've got some anti-poison potions and heal potions on the right side of the bar. These will keep me safe if I end up surrounded by enemies for a minute and can't avoid damage.
With my preparations done, let's survey the woods.
Lots of resources in the woods... you can see how I'll be able to level up my skills here.
Two difficulty, and I could bring in epic weapons except I don't have any. One day I will be able to grind the woods much more quickly with stronger weapons.
Into The Woods
At the start of the woods, all is peaceful. There are no enemies that jump out at me. Maybe this won't be so bad! Let's move forward...
YIKES!
Giant poisonous plants with a slight Mario Bros "Piranha Plant" vibe ENGULF ME IN TERRIBLE POISON! As soon as the green gas surrounds me, I will be taking 600+ damage unless I use an antipoison potion.
This is a lot of damage considering it happens in a single hit, even if the damage occurs over time.
"Grod" is a hulking ogre, looking to me like a cross between a robot and a stone golem. This thing takes a ton of damage and due to its close-range stun attack, all I know how to do is run away and shoot at it with my bow until it dies. This enemy takes forever to kill and is a big reason why running through the woods takes me 20+ minutes every time with my current gear.
On the plus side, I find peaceful moments. Fishing is a great way to earn skills, feed myself, and just take a minute to chill.
The treasure chests are a nice reward. Another piece of the reward is the feeling of learning and getting better. Even though I mess up a lot, I can tell my skills in this game are improving.
There were some scary moments but I made it to the end. Let me out of here!!
The Loot
OK, that wasn't so bad! Sometimes I end up at the verge of death and barely make it out. A few times I haven't made it out, losing thousands of gold in weapons.
Here's the end result of this run:
You can see that I defeated every single monster and collected all the items. We got some resources. Most importantly I got TWO golden eggs, valuable items that can either be cracked open looking for a "golden ticket" or sold to other players for decent gold. I'll probably sell these. Selling eggs is how I am stacking gold and paying for a few months of membership without spending any money from an external account.
That was a great run! This dungeon took me a while but I am starting to feel comfortable with it. There are many more dungeons to learn.
For now I am going to keep grinding the Arcane Pits and sell as many golden eggs as possible. I'm stacking levels and resources all over the place. NFT gaming is so rewarding... LET's GRIND!
