Market Friday: Wat Arun under lockdown,

in #marketfriday4 years ago (edited)

This is my entry for #marketfriday hosted by the kind and compassionate @dswigle. During the last week of lockdown in early June, I took a boat trip to Wat Arun or Temple of Dawn. I didn’t know whether I would be allowed to get inside but I needed the boat trip. To my delight, people were allowed to walk in the garden though all the buildings were closed to the public. The weather was changeable with strong sunshine interrupted by gangs of dark grey clouds as if the gods had summoned their soldiers for a march of power display.

This was the first time I ever saw Wat Arun very quiet without a single tourist. It is so strange to be able to walk around the garden without bumping into people who would be jostling for their best photographs. The atmosphere was very easy going and peaceful; I felt incredibly free and secured in this vast space. Some local people came on their bicycles to just sit quietly waiting for the sunset.

This temple was very important in the past as the Palace of King Taksin (King Thonburi) was very close; this temple used to be part of the Palace. The overthrow of the King Taksin by his best friend (Chief of the Army) had left a quiet controversy on the true story till these days. That was probably why I always felt confused, sad and somehow dejected whenever I walked around the West side of the river. So, the new dynasty had to move to the east side of the river to establish a new city and new Palace. Luckily, these noble ancestors were patriots and sacrificed themselves for our sovereignty and independence.

I could imagine people in old Thai clothes and costumes hurried along the path in front of the Ordination Hall while the palace guards readied themselves for the King’s arrival. This temple was like a royal shrine room of King Taksin. He could have built a beautiful and grand palace for himself but he refused his entourages’ suggestion. He told them the country had just won the war of independence from Burmese control; people were still very poor and exhausted. That’s why old generations of Thai people on the Thonburi side of the river were devoted to him and still talked about the historical stories passed down through previous generations. There are many conflicting evidence and records which contradict the official story. I know we will never know the truth, except those who have access to hidden archives.

As the wind gently swayed the leaves of the old trees, I wonder if they would tell me some of the secrets they had seen and heard almost three hundred years ago. I was probably walking and standing where King Taksin used to during his brief reign. He was psychic as he told his courtiers that he did not want to be formally inaugurated as a King as he was only passing by. He was holding the post for the next King. While he was a young soldier walking in a market with his best buddy, a Chinese astrologer took their hands and told them that they both would become a King one day. The two soldiers laughed their heads off. But this prediction turned out to be accurate.

The atmosphere around me seemed to be melancholy, perhaps those trees were reminiscing about the past and they were weeping for they could foresee the future as well. There were always some spirits of various levels living on those old trees; probably some loyal servants or soldiers of the past who promised to look after this land. This visit was really weird for me as I seemed to be going through things on other dimension and time. Someone from the past wanted to tell me lots of stories but my guardians would not allow that to happen. Past burdens should stay there where they belonged; I still have my destiny waiting for me here.

My express boat came before the big rain storm, I was quite lucky to get home in time.

Wishing you a very nice weekend.

Cheers.

That was a wonderful tour and story. The photos are beautiful and those skies wow.

When I see the photo of the statues looking up I am reminded of how frightened I was when I saw these. It's in a good way.

Oh! Don’t be frightened by these statues as there are no spirits residing inside! They are just old symbols of a cultural belief system or tradition.

Glad you enjoy this brief tour! Hope you could find some long lost relatives in Thailand one day.

Stay strong and healthy!

And the temples are magnificent and the sky is beautiful!

Thank you very much! You should post one photo everyday!!

Cheers.

I wish you the fulfillment of all your desires!
Good luck!
And good days!

I am in awe of the beauty of the palaces and temples there in Thailand. There was no expense spared to make it the most beautiful. There is so much truth in the guidance given for the future. I can only imagine how strange the feeling is, walking around in a city that is coming apart at the seams due to all the people, only to have it be empty while you are wandering to the Wat Arun. I am so glad you took the time now, what a view you got!

I must tell you something I have meant to tell you for a few days now! A few days ago, I was reading a post that was over a year ago, it was probably close to one and a half years... I was reading your comment. I cannot even tell you why I was drawn to it. In it, you predicted the exact circumstances in my life that I am living now. I am serious. It is as if you came back in time to tell me what to beware of.

This makes at least three times you have been spot on. To a fault! I am sure there are others, but, these stuck out in my mind. You are very powerful. I just had to tell you!

Thank you always, for your wonderful posts and for your amazing visions of my life, relaying what you feel, see, or otherwise. I am without words.

Thank you so much for taking the time to join the challenge! You have the most amazing architecture there! I am in awe at the thoughts of building those without the aid of modern technology or tools. I appreciate the love and support you are giving to #MarketFriday! Without you and people like yourself, I wouldn't be able to have such a successful challenge! I know that at this time, it is harder to find something to fit the challenge. On a good day, it takes a lot of time and effort to be part of, so it means a lot to me that you participate. I hope you know that there is great latitude in what Market means. It can be typical of where you shop for food, or it can be a unique place that you visit. Thank you again for being a part of all this and I hope that you will, indeed, have a great day and week ahead! You know exactly how to do a post, however, if one of your friends reads this and are in doubt about how to participate, this should clear it all up!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

How to Participate:

Go to the market! Any market will do! Food, clothing, plant, or animal, if you wish. You can go to the zoo, an art auction, and restaurants. Anywhere or anything that you pay money for any kind of service.
Take pictures! Be creative! It’s fun!
Tell us a little bit about the market, what brought you here?
Post the picture.(s)

Thank you very much for your nice comment and feedback on my previous comment.
Actually, I could feel you a few days ago and I was wondering about your buying a new house project. I couldn’t remember what went through me! I often told my friends to note down what I would say for them as I wouldn’t remember afterwards.

Well, I think I am a bit psychic and I could see or hear things other people could not. Some healers I had stumbled on in my life told me I could be a good healer. But I was not interested as that seemed too unscientific to me then. Things happened and I discovered my gift by accident. This was quite stressful as I could not change the bad consequences I knew would take place; it’s sometimes a matter of life and death. Karmic rules couldn’t be changed! Even I knew when I would be in hospital so I prepared everything in advance! I try not to think about it, trying to survive on a limited budget this year is quite a challenge. But things will pass in time.

You have very nice loving soul and your guardian angels are with you! Lucky you!
Sometimes mine went on a strike! I had to call them back! LoL

Have a wonderful day.

Cheers.

I am always amazed at your insight! Karmic rules cannot be played with. I have come to understand this!!!!!!!

Thank you, always, and have a wonderful day!

!tip

Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness.

Someone else higher can have some influence on karmic consequences. It’s like having God’s Grace and blessings. The messengers or angels would be sent to assist you in time of great need, provided that one’s good deeds have created such pure vibes that others could not ignore what’s happening.

But most people are creatures of habits! It’s so difficult to change my bad habit!! So,I’ll have to try harder!

Best.

Me too!!! One can never be perfect, but, we can keep trying!

Okay, I will keep trying! Thanks for your support!

Thank you for the kind tip!

When I was in Bangkok I went to see Wat Arun and I was like the other tourists snapping photos like mad.
This place is awesome. When I said to the kids - my son and his girlfriend who is Thai, to show me a temple, they choose to go there. Reading your post made ny visit complete, as I know nothing about the history.

Thank you very much for your encouraging comment. So glad you had a nice visit at Wat Arun. It’s great to be there when there were no tourists. LoL

Beautiful photographs and beautiful place with so many interesting colorful details ... great trip.
