Ageing is natural but growth is intentional.

in #motivation6 years ago

As a kid, I was told to listen and obey my elders because not only was it the right thing to do but also, they had experience and that made them knew better. That was true but not entirely. When I became of age, I realized the big difference that most people ignore at times and this is it. The truth is, ageing is a natural process that inevitably takes place but to grow, requires a lot more than grey hair. To grow means to know the value of patience, kindness, gratitude, consistency, humility, sympathy and respect.

I have literally sat with many elderly people who don’t understand none of the above aforementioned values. Some of these people actually don’t get the difference I speak of. They believe the fact that they are older makes them expects. It doesn’t and there is proof all over. I am a big believer in people having the ability to understand their surroundings.

For instance, when you were born into a destitute family, you don’t wake up late and expect food on the table. You wake up earlier than anyone in the house, clean up your room and work on something that has the ability to get you out of that situation. There is no honor in being poor and any individual who recognizes this and decides to escape the clutches of poverty, is someone who has decided to grow. This is because the process one has to go through to get out of poverty is one that actually grows them mentally, physically and socially.

This does not come to you as you age. It comes as you decide to step out of your comfort zone and that is hard. It comes to you as you try to find a way out. This is why I personally advice we pay attention to the actions of those who claim to know rather than listen to them. If they seem to be just talking and not acting, pay no more attention to them.

This is life. We never asked to be here but once we are here, we should make sure we make the most out of it.

Wow! that's pretty interesting. I am about to be 30 years old, and sometimes I am afraid of that, maybe for lots of things that are going on in my life, but your post makes me see another side of what is life and youth, so thanks...

Absolutely right. I wish my parents could've understood it

They may have never understood it but the good news is , you do and are prepared to apply it.

This has sent a lot of message to me, I believe in individual determinations, and full use of the power of the mind, no one can use what they don't know they have, and this post has just informed us in what we can become what we want if we can just understand that we grow when we wish. Nobody wants to grow late or slowly, very nice post @kwakumax

I am glad you love it @crystannson and you are most welcome.

Waw! Thank you so much for this.
Wisdom is not a product of age but a product of learning. It is mostly africa that just because ine is older makes them feel you are inferior to them in mentality.

its not how long you have lived that makes the difference, but how well you utilized your time spent.

Lets live a life of impact. Thank you @kwakumax

You are welcome and yes, let us live an impactful life.

Culture also plays an important part especially in Africa where elders are given special treatment and respect.

Poverty and situations can push you to extremes and sometimes might bring out something you never believed was in you

That is the old africa. A new and better one is emerging and i am glad to be a part of it.

Hi, great post.
I remember a situation with a colleague in my former job. I asked her to do a procedure differently because her way led to the same result but it was harmful for the longevity of the machines.
I replied she would have been doing it this way for 20 years...
She even did not get it when I asked her how long somthing has to be done wrong to make it right ;)
Keep up the great work.

It's the MIND. It's been done for years without questioning so it becomes logical to many to follow the trend when if it is wrong
