Majek Fashek (1963 - 2020)

in #music4 years ago (edited)

A few years ago, on a hot afternoon, I found myself standing before a long stretch of crawling cars that would later form a vicious, na-nothing-cause-am gridlock afterwards.

Intending to cross the road and while I stood by it, my eyes suddenly fell on one of the crawling cars which had a hat-wearing, light-skinned man on the backseat. The jaunty-looking man looked quite familiar and I curiously gave a closer look.

And then, I realized whom it was. Holy heavens! It was none other than the rain maker himself. It was Majek Fashek. At that red letter moment, our eyes locked momentarily like the horns of lazy Sallah rams. I waved and smile at him. He managed to wave back and smile before the impatient distance swallowed him up, leaving me amused at his friendliness.

Today, the Rain Maker is no more. But I remember him differently, not as that legendary maestro who mesmerized the world with his flawless music and guitar but as the reggae icon who had the courtesy of returning an insignificant smile in a moving Lagos gridlock.

May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Majek Fashek (1963 - 2020).

It was so disheartening. I saw his tribute on hip tv, the man is such a vibe. May his soul rest in peace.

Amen

Great music.
As for the smile, I have only ever seen it in a photo. But I'm certain it is not "insignificant."
Keep hiving, and keep smiling!

Thanks for enjoying this fine music. I know you to be a world citizen and a lover of music, so it is not surprising that you love the song. As for my smile, thanks for not acknowledging it's "insignificant"

May his soul rest in peace. His reggae songs was such a vibe. Especially "send down the rain"... I only got to know him well after his transition.

Yea, I love Send Down the Rain. It's a great song. I knew him from as far back as 2002. He's a fine singer and guitarist.

My mom always plays his songs. We can only be thankful for the great music he's left us.

Rest legend

I do not know him but I like what I heard. May he Rest In Peace.

Glad you love it. This very track is one of my favourites.
