⭐️ The next newbie night is at 7pm on August 25, 2020. Come join us in general chat at PALnet~ ⭐️

Hi friends! I've been sitting on a few drafts for a long time, and I really wanted to make the first post back in a while about my well-past 3 year blockchain anniversary and the wild ride that has been the first three months of Hive, but there's just been too much to do! So, chalk up another big fail for Crim. I intend to get back to that hopefully a little later in the week, but for now...

One thing that has never been a fail is how awesome my Saturday afternoon live stream broadcasts with all of you have been, and this week we had a great idea I'm following up on.

When I started out, I did a lot of really basic explanations and fun and easy breakdowns of stuff you encounter day to day around the blockchain. They've been popular, and despite my not really advertising them, a really cool group of regular listeners and diverse thinkers has come together.

Over the past few years, the topics and questions have really branched out, and we've definitely in a lot of ways moved well beyond the "true newbie" basics. Cool! It's made for a really fun and engaging three years. However, in that time, I've been on-boarding new users (some actually DURING my shows) and they kind of just get thrown right in the deep end when they join in the live streams. To help make up for that, and to make it a bit easier than reading big walls of tutorial text or expecting them to try to keep up with a community who already knows the ropes, I thought I'd host a once monthly Newbie Night. It's really just getting together in a voice chat and being fully available to answer ANY question at all, no matter how new and how "simple" it may seem... we all started in the same place!

I'm going to be hosting a really chill, anyone-can-join conversation in the general voice chat of the PALnet Discord for the newest of new users, for a fun dialogue about some of the questions we think are obvious but that tend to go over a newbie's head.

Let's meet at whatever time is highlighted between the starts up at the top of this post. If you know a super newbie who wants to ask questions or who would learn better though just chatting with other Hivers in a no pressure environment, share an invitation with them! I suspect the gathering won't be huge, and this isn't meant to be some big crazy forum where everyone on chain shows up just to be seen. I'd like to catch some people who learn best by talking through new things up with what the Hive blockchain is, how they can use it, and empower them with a bit of knowledge so they can go forth and thrive. If you want to come, then you can too, of course~ bring a snack and get comfy and let's chat. I promise my next post, whenever it is, will be back to my more regular content creation- just wanted to put the invite out there to all of you. (PS, I'm burning half of the rewards because this is just an information post so don't go wild or anything, just spread the word.)

See you on Newbie Night!

@recoveryinc should join this! 😀

Thanks man!

please do! it's partially selfish as I learn a lot talking to new people as well, but I know for some people, a quick conversation is one of the best ways they learn so we'll see how helpful it ends up~

thank you, quahuna! let me know if there's anyone else who might want to just hang out and pick brains 🖤

I'll be doing so for sure! 🖤
See you in 4 hours!

4:30 AM :-)
Well, I guess my questions would have to wait for a next chance ;-)
Be nice to newbies, don't break any ;-)

The day I find something to teach you will probably be one where time is flowing backwards, anyhow. I shall be as nice to them as you were to me for my first post. :D

i am sure she hates us Europeans :D

Thank you Crim, I really need this. I have a LOT of questions that I just dont understand.
Only thing is your timing sucks. I havs to get up at 1am eastern on Wednesdays. Guess I get up early and drink some extra coffee!
Gonna have to write my questions down zo I can ask them. My brain dont work that early. Lol!

See you all tomorrow!

you're going to be so bagged 😂 good thing this will be very chill. I'll have a nice big mug of boozy coffee and we'll muddle through it together~

@martial.media has joined, maybe he will notice this mention and make time to be on the show.

not a show! while I do two live streaming broadcasts (one about Hive and other topics) this is just a very chill voice session for some of the newest onboards who want to ask questions and hang out. We have a trillion wonderful tutorials, but sometimes people don't learn as well that way, so I'm just offering something silly and fun. Don't want to scare anyone away with it being more like my formal shows~ Would love to have him if he's got questions about how it all works!

Wicked awesomesauce idea, @crimsonclad! It's a bit past my bedtime tonight (early day tomorrow & I'm hoping to hit the hay no later than 10pm EST) but if this turns into a weekly thing, I'll definitely try swinging in with a plate of fresh cyber chocolate chip cookies (I believe it's illegal to chill & chat without chocolate and/or cookies... 🤣).

I don't think I can do weekly, tbqh. The two shows are five hours of broadcasting, and I'm trying to be mindful of always making sure I hit my schedules consistently. If I start adding too much more I will basically lose any time at all to do things like make food and walk my dog 😂

BUT I think you're totally right, so I'm thinking I'll aim for once monthly and rotate around the times to be more fair to a bigger spread of newbs. Have a good sleep this time around! Consider this the test run; I've just got a couple of guys who have accounts but know NOTHING else and I bet we could find a few more people who might really love/benefit from jumping in~

I think it's been a while since I joined your show. It's fun listening to you ranting, just don't get wilder when talking.

Well, I look forward to it by tomorrow then.😘

while I like to think my shows are a bit more than ranting, I suspect this it's probably on the nose 😂

That being said, just a reminder, this is definitely not a show! I'm just going to hop in a voice chat with a few newbies I've onboarded and let them ask any and every question and direct the conversation. I always learn a lot by hearing the questions people have, so hopefully this will be fun, very laid back, and will help a few people out~

It's good to see there are people who are dedicated in helping newbies.

How's the lockdown going?

hey mihai! I've always been pretty interested in what makes new people tick, for sure. Most of the projects I'm involved with come back to that in some way or another, but I don't post a lot, and I do want to get back to my personal content. That means I haven't been doing a really good job of getting out there and finding people to talk to and helping in better accessible ways. So why not try this out and see what happens?

Lockdown for me has been pretty uneventful; I'm able to work from home when necessary, and my business is already largely online so we were able to pivot to match the changing landscape okay. I live in a place in Canada that mandated about two months of business closures; we're almost back to normal now, with some basic cleanliness guidelines in place. Businesses are reopen, masks aren't legislated, people are mostly trying to be cool to each other. So for us here, lockdown was lonely and a bit worrying for business, but we've not had the same craziness or fear or government intervention as a lot of places, which I think has made it easier. I don't love it, and I feel pretty sick for others, but right now I'm just getting out, treating people carefully and respectfully, and spending locally wherever I can.

How are things where you're at?

It's good to hear that you're ok.
Here in Romania we have some interesting measures for stores: mandatory masks, social distancing, temperature screening for some stores and banks, and more laws are on their way.

i have a curiosity: What's the proof for the virus?

I think its really cool that you do this for the community, the newbies really need It! I WISH I had this help when I started. Keep up the good work @carmenm20 you should join.

PS: I hope you record it so I can share the info afterwards.

thank you for the compliment! 😊 I see you're still pretty new to Hive, so a big welcome to you~

Since you're learning your way around, do you have any questions or anything you don't understand about Hive yet? there's a lot to learn and the whole point of newbie night it to have conversations with people who are new!
