Dream-like ski trip on top of the world!

in #norway3 years ago

Oh. My. God! What. A. Day!!
To say that I love skiing on days like these would be the understatement of the year. Perhaps tied to me saying that I love to see HIVE pump. Anyways, after 3 days of rather depressing weather, it all turned 180 degrees. Barely any clouds. Perfect temperatures. And perfect skiing conditions for off-piste cross country skiing in the mountains.

There is this saying that when you're in love you want to tell the world. Referring to how one simply can't not share an incredible experience. Today was one of those days.

Let's have a look!

This view says it all. Me with short sleeves as the weather was more than warm enough to allow it. Getting what will hopefully be a decent tan from the intense high-altitude sun 😎. Pair that with having most of the mountains to ourselves with nothing else to pollute the view. You get the idea.

But we didn't just land on the top out of nowhere. Of course, we had to first ski a few kilometers from the cabin to reach the foot of the mountain. Along the way, gorgeous views like this open river painting the view like a green stroke across the white canvas.

The mountains, unlike the forests close to Oslo where I've been skiing mostly this winter, have this openness that gives a sense of freedom. It's like playing an open-world video game where you can go and explore wherever you want, as opposed to playing a game with a strict and predetermined story-line and strict path for your character to walk. I certainly enjoy more degrees of freedom in my real-life games!

My mum seemed to be having a good time as well. In Norwegian, we have this term called "skiglede", which translates to "being happy when skiing". So if I had to name this picture, that would certainly be it!

My dad on his way up to the top, after we had reached the foot of the mountain we were going to ascend. What I find so beautiful about the mountains here, especially when you gain enough height that there's still plenty of snow, is that it looks as if you're walking on top of the clouds!

When we finally made it to the plateau, which stretches on for many more kilometers in every direction. You get just that feeling.

So obviously, I had to do a selfie with the view in the background 😎.

From there, we could simply ski across the plateau, which is 1100 meters above sea level, almost endlessly before making a descent. With the high intensity of the sun at these levels, and with it reflecting off the snow, I feel like I could be spending the whole day here! Provided I had enough sunscreen..

But while the skiing trip was likely the best I've had all year so far, the day doesn't end there. With such fine weather, the sunny side of the cabin is just perfect. And with it being Easter and this being Norway, we obviously had to have a "fenalår"!

Combining the delicious salty meat with some quality wine, sunny weather and a gorgeous view and it's safe to say that life is pretty good! At least, I wouldn't want it any other way.

How is your Easter going? :)

Dude this place looks magic!
It never occurs to me that you need sunscreen even though it’s cold enough for snow. Just shows how much doing experience I have (none)

I wish so bad I could have the opportunity to be somewhere like this - open free and filling my lungs with fresh air.

‘skiglede’ - I love this word! (Even though I struggle pronouncing it)

I don't think the pictures do the nature, the scenery, and the views justice. It is really awesome!

Haha, you would be surprised then to learn that the intensity of the sun here is far greater than on a Spanish beach in June. So you would both tan and/or get sun burned here faster. Even when there is snow.

You should plan a trip here next spring then. Will be happy to give some recommendations;).

Daymn looks like an epic way to spend the vacation! :D

It sure was😎. Can't wait to be back next weekend!
