Visit to the City and Castle of Este in the province of Padova - Discovering Italy with alequandro!

Hello everyone! Today I bring you to Este a beautiful city rich in history, located between the hills of the province of Padua, in northern Italy.

I parked the car right next to the castle walls and was already looking forward to the beauty that awaited me beyond the imposing city wall over a kilometer long.

Ciao a tutti! Oggi vi porto ad Este una bellissima città ricca di storia, situata tra i colli della provincia di Padova, nel nord Italia.

Ho parcheggiato l'auto proprio a ridosso delle mura del castello e già pregustavo la bellezza che mi attendeva oltre l'imponente cinta muraria lunga oltre un chilometro.

Beyond the walls there was a large open space that increased in slope as it approached the main tower.

Oltre le mura si estendeva un ampio spazio aperto che aumentava di pendenza mano a mano che si avvicinava al torrione principale.

Low walls and box hedges delimit the areas: an Italian garden, a public park with benches, old trees and paths leading to the highest part of the castle.

Bassi muretti e siepi di bosso delimitano le aree: un giardino all'italiana, un parco pubblico con panchine, alberi secolari e percorsi che conducono alla parte più alta del castello.

The view from above is very impressive, in line with the main access to the castle walls.

I was hoping the tower was accessible but unfortunately it wasn't.

As I went up every now and then I turned to look at the view. The bell tower of the cathedral could be seen soaring above the roofs of the houses.

The castle was built in 1339 on the remains of a previous castle built in 1056.

A quick look and then we decided to visit Este's main square.

A very dynamic space with many ideas for taking photos.

It is a pleasure to stay there because the walls act as a soundproofing barrier, almost eliminating the noise of the cars that circulate outside.

Uno spazio molto dinamico con molti spunti per fare foto.

E' un piacere stare lì perchè le mura fungono da barriera fonoassorbente quasi azzerando il rumore delle auto che circolano al di fuori.

Here we are in Piazza Maggiore, it is totally pedestrian and is surrounded by bars, restaurants and the main public buildings.

I must say that the prospective effect is very pleasant.

Eccoci in piazza Maggiore, è totalmente pedonale ed è circondata da bar, ristoranti e gli edifici pubblici principali.

Devo dire che l'effetto prospettico è molto piacevole.

On the south side of the square is the Palazzo degli Scaligeri.
This 14th-century building houses a library with seventy thousand volumes and a special section called the Estense Collection with documents, books and brochures relating to the city.

Questa costruzione di origine trecentesca ospita una biblioteca con settantamila volumi e una sezione speciale chiamata Raccolta Estense con documenti, libri e opuscoli attinenti la città.

On the adjacent side of the square there is the town hall building is an elegant loggia building dating back to the 17th century, recently restored; the balcony above the porch is an eighteenth-century addition.

Browsing, I noticed an alley and decided to go and see where it led.

This other way reminded me remotely of the colors of the island of Burano in Venice.

So we decided to continue walking by orienting ourselves with google maps.

On the side of the road I noticed a beautiful villa, difficult to photograph because of the high wall that surrounded it.

It is the Villa Albrizzi, I discovered that it is a hotel.

After twenty minutes of walking we reached the prince's path where there is the Alvise Cornaro garden but unfortunately it was closed so we went up a stone road and we slipped into a narrow path, where there was a surprise waiting for us!

Dopo venti minuti di cammino siamo giunti al percorso del principe dove c'è il giardino di Alvise Cornaro ma purtroppo era chiuso così abbiamo risalito una strada di sassi e ci siamo infilati in uno stretto vialetto, dove c'era una sopresa ad aspettarci!

Just outside the walls is the beautiful villa contarini built by the disciple of the architect Andrea Palladio: Vincenzo Scamozzi!

Proprio fuori dalle mura si trova la bellissima villa contarini realizzata dal discepolo dell'architetto Andrea Palladio: Vincenzo Scamozzi!

To control us there was a beautiful dog that followed all our steps with our eyes.

The villa has interiors completely decorated with frescoes and on the back of the villa there is a secret garden.

On leaving we said goodbye to the dog and continued to climb the stone road.

It wasn't long before sunset and the light was becoming magical.

We arrived in front of a building made mostly of wood, in contrast to the other buildings.
It was the stables of the Villa Kunkler.

The use of wood reminded me of the buildings I see when I go to the mountains.

Then I headed to the villa but it was closed.

An inscription said that between 1817 and 1818 the famous poets Byron and Shelley stayed there ... too bad, I wanted to visit it.

Enraptured by the sunset suddenly here the bells of the cathedral ring, it meant that it was open!

At a brisk pace we went back to the square.

And finally here we are at the Duomo!
The oldest religious building in the city, dating back to the 4th-5th century AD.

E finalmente eccoci giunti al Duomo!

The environment is very large and harmonious with the balcony overlooking the side niches and leading the eye towards the altar.

Unfortunately, the Tiepolo altarpiece is being restored and is not present in the cathedral.

I really liked the organ with the underlying wooden structure, a jewel set.

L'ambiente è molto ampio e armonico con il ballatoio che sovrasta le nicchie laterali e che conduce l'occhio verso l'altare.

Purtroppo la pala del Tiepolo la stanno restaurando e non è presente nel duomo.

Mi è piaciuto molto l'organo con la struttura sottostante in legno, un gioiello incastonato.

It was late, it was time to go home, but as we walked towards the car I noticed a bell tower nearby which had aroused my attention.

I insisted and quickly so we visited the basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie.

ITA

Era tardi, era ora di tornare a casa, ma mentre camminavamo verso l'auto mi sono accorto di un campanile poco distante che aveva stuzziacato la mia attenzione.

Ho insistito e velocemente così abbiamo visitato la basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie.

When we entered we were speechless, from the outside we could not perceive the architectural value of that environment.

Quando siamo entrati siamo rimasti a bocca aperta, dall'esterno non si percepiva la pregevolezza architettonica di quell'ambiente.

When I am forced to see interesting things quickly I am sorry, but at the same time I am happy to have had a taste of such beauty.
