Throughout our lives if we were to start counting the number of people we've met, we would be amazed. The degree to which our interactions happen and influence us is very hard to notice and to analyse because we take life as it happens, we rarely put pause and ponder.
Going through childhood and adolescence leads us to adulthood. Only after a dozen of bitter experiences some of us start to reflect and put questions. Why did that happen? What did I do? Should I dig into the past and extract some valuable informations from there? I do not know why nature did it this way, but we are slow to mature. It can take 30 to 40 years, if not more, for people to realize things on a deeper level. To experience feelings of remorse, gratitude, forgiveness, compassion.
After my humble experience of life, I came to realize one thing: if you want to have an impact on someone's life, teach them something beautiful and leave a mark of beauty inside their soul. Regardless if they did you well or harm. Plant a seed of hope, courage, love, forgiveness, acceptance, respect. At least plant something good instead of going with the harsh tools and dig their soil up until it is down in pieces scattered and left with nothing but sorrow and anger. The entrance to someone's life, even if you might not stay for long in their physical presence, is through their heart and mind. If you plant something good, you will be forever in their lives even if you said goodbye long time ago. That's the eternal power of kindness and education.
I thought of the positive influence of my former teacher of physics in general school. Mrs Leaf. Yes, quite an adorable name. She was like a mother to me. She encouraged me to pursue my dreams, helping me get my first personal computer, giving me positive support to go to all of the competitions and overall just making me feel like I can achieve greatness despite my personal problems back then. I no longer felt a lonely child when I was around her. Although she had a daughter of her own, I felt very much accepted like her second one. Rarely you get teachers to go beyond their comfort zone and try to form an emotional connection. There are some who just perform their duty, teach the class, get their pay and take it month by month until they feel happy they can retire and get rid of all of those nasty kids.
The impact that a good teacher can have on the life of kids is enormous. That is why I value education so much. It shapes the child's brain from early on and it stays with them for years to come. Mrs. Leaf is no longer around me since then. But she taught me priceless lessons about being kind to others, trying to understand them, about forgiving and believing in your dreams. She taught me to ignore the naysayers and do my thing and believe in myself even when nobody else does it. She left a mark of confidence and of greatness in my heart. I carry Mrs Leaf's legacy with me every single day. She put valuable bricks on the foundation of my character as it is now. I will take this further and pass it to my future children, in my attitude towards my partner and towards people in general. So actually her impact will be greater than she thought. Although I moved on with my life, she is still with me everyday, until I die, through her kind gestures. Her good spirit transcends space, time and breaths in eternity. That's how powerful a good person can be. That's how immortal their good actions are. Choose to be like this, you can't possibly lose anything, believe me.

Such a beautiful message! I agree with it all. I grew up in difficult situations so I learned these lessons at an early age, always analyze situations and my own behavior towards others. We all make mistakes but as long as we continually try to do better is what counts. Planting seeds from the heart has a deeper impact than we realize even if it's a quick 5 minute encounter. I learned many deep lessons of life from what they probably thought was a meaningless encounter but really those 5 minutes of wisdom meant the world to me and impacted my thinking to this day. Thanks for sharing :)

Life lessons, the important experiences we have and the things we learn from them that we want to pass along to our children, are an important part of Family History. We move from quantity to quality first we start with a big circle of people and then we narrow it down to the best people for us, not everyone does it but well that's just the way I see it going
I believe in small circles when it comes to people who you trust. The rest are acquaintences and casual friends. Spend major time with major people and surround yourself only with quality people. You know that saying, we are the sum of the people with who we interact the most. If you don't like where you at, time to change the circle. I constantly analyise people and myself. It's good to have positive influences in your life rather than negative ones.
Your writing is very good and can take me back to the good old days. Reminds me of a teacher who has succeeded in building emotional connections with his students. Feels very comfortable being nearby. He is like a biological parent to his students. His spirit is remembered forever. Planting goodness then goodness that we encounter. And vice versa. Yes, right. I totally agree with what you say. Children are very valuable gems for parents. We must become parents who will be role models for them. We have to fill in the white paper with something good.
Yes! I think kids are very important and parents should take their role further than just feeding, clothing and giving bare necessities to their kids. A parent should also nurture the mind and the imagination of the child, to give them confidence to pursue their dreams, to give them the tools for knowledge through education and rich experiences.

Mrs. Leaf, what an adorable name indeed! Yes the power of kindness is great, although not unlimited. There are people that have sealed themselves against love and kindness and you could never reach them, hopefully you'll meet none of them.

Reading this makes me miss teaching high school. I've moved on to teaching at a uni but man teaching teens are one of the highlights of my career. Sure, some have sweared and cursed at me, but once you get through to them, it leaves such a deep impact on their lives that they remember you forever. Awesome to know that you have gotten someone like Mrs leaf iny our life!
