Food Is Free Project ~ We Got A Big Surprise!

in #organic8 years ago

If you've been following this blog over the last month you will know about the "Food Is Free Project" and more specifically, a family I have written about 3 times now.  We met online in the summer when our family was advertising in local groups that we had more food than we could eat, and for anyone to come and be gifted free food.

A wonderful lady and her mother have come by several times now, bearing their own homemade edibles to us.  Every time they try and leave, I always have a few bags of organic produce and eggs for them.   They were adamant that they didn't come to receive, but to give.  I joked last time that they would probably come when we weren't home, just to be able to "get us", without us being able to "get them back".  Isn't giving so much fun?

Well...they got us!   CUPCAKES~MUSTARD PICKLES ... SURPRISE POP BY!

OOOH MY GOODNESS THE KIDS WERE IN HEAVEN, AND LATER THAT NIGHT MY HUSBAND AND I HAD THE DELIGHT OF EATING THE BEST MUSTARD PICKLES EVER!!!

And truly they did 'get us' because I had no eggs at all, I had already given them away, so...you win Sandie!  But I sure hope you stop back again soon, this time you're not leaving empty handed!  :) :)  So many smiles.

I'm amazed again at how one little sign on our door, one idea shared in some groups, could connect us with so many brilliant human beings, longing for a simpler life, longing for connection, sharing...for something real.

There is such a great tradition among gardeners to share their bounty. Thanks for helping to cement those traditions with your kids and people in your neighborhood.

Thank you @haphazard-hstead :) Hopefully if enough folks start trading, giving, and bartering again, we can cut out all these 'middle men' standing in the way of us all having our needs met! <3

When it comes to food, that is more true than many of us realize. There is so much untapped potential for food production in our own neightborhoods. Fruit would work really well for your model, where people trade what they are growing, to increase the diversity of their total harvest. Fruit trees and small fruits can be incredibly productive!

That soup looks delicious. Loved your post and how's your tobacco curing up? Have you tried any yet or is it still too wet?

The tobacco is curing up great, we have already broken off some of the drier leaves and tried them, mmmmmmm, nothing compares !!! And it's stronger too, which I wasn't expecting. How is your homestead going now that fall has arrived @luzcypher?

Such a great project! Here in Cambodia people are all for giving and sharing the food they grow! So love it!

Oh my... kept thinking that mustard pickles was the flavor or cupcakes and trying to see if the kids actually liked it. HAHAHA. Great post, love seeing this! :)

HAHAAA that's too funny @lunnettik, I didn't think about it that way when I posted it lolol ~~ !!

I'm writing a children's book that has a bunch of images of a mouse eating. Is it ok if I write the Food Is Free Project into the story?

But of course! The project started in the USA and has spread all over the world, we're just doing our part. You talking about it/creating will just help the movement get more exposure. Thank you @vegascomic.
