A Short Notice Stand at the Local Farmers Market

in #palnet3 years ago

This weekend just passed hosted a local small farmers market. It was the first official little farmers market since I got back to the area. Initially, I was not going to be around that specific weekend, a very close friend of mine was celebrating his birthday and invited me and a group of friends for a wildlife expedition and camping on a game farm, however by Friday I was still not feeling good enough to travel after my burning incident and I feared that camping might not be worth the risk of the wounds getting infected, so I decided that I would rather stay at home. And when I was asked again to join the local farmers market of course I gave it a very unprepared "Yes Sure"

So there I was committed and completely under-stocked and unprepared for the local farmers market - but I decided to make it work anyway. So Friday night I gathered up some of the stock and plants that I still had and started to make some of my divine (even if I say so myself) cookies, all together I had just enough to fill up my table (the picture above was taken though the course of the day when I had already sold most of the baked goods and started spreading out what I had left to make the table look fuller).

But lets have a closer look at some of the stock I managed to scrape together for the event...

Firstly - I still had some succulents prepared from the ones I had put together for a shop order, so that went into the crate - these included some hawortia, portulaca's and potulecaras as well as a few cactus's like the young golden barrels and even some small aloes.

Then of course I had some jams left over from previous orders as well as some Maroela & Ginger jelly from the most recent batch that I had bottled, at the time of this picture the other jams had already sold out along with a whole lot of the maroela jelly, but luckily I had quite a bit of that and I could spread it out over the table to try and make it look full.

The other bottled items I started off with was mango jam, mango chutney, tomato jam, and ruby red grapefruit jam, and dragon fruit jam all made from produce I grow right here on the farm.

There is another month-end market happening this upcoming weekend, and I will need to make the most out of the week ahead to ensure that I have new stock and also - put a bit more time into getting myself prepared.

Then of course there were the cookies - I say this in past tense, because it seems that I simply never bake enough of these... I am always scared to bake too much on one go, and try and estimate how much to make for the day ahead, but these seem to do very well and are pretty high in demand.

So for next weekend I will definitely have to try and get more baked than I did last time.

For this market I made some Rocky Road-, Choc Chip/Macadamia- & Choc Chip cookies and at the end of the market I had completely sold out on all but 2 packets of Rocky Road. Looks like people here definitely have a stronger attraction to chocolate. So much so that I even parted with my packet of cookies that I kept under that table for people who would like to sample the merchandise, when a young girl came to buy some cookies after tasting some of her brothers, and got really upset that I had sold the last bag just minutes before.

Lastly, I still had some dog biscuits left in stock - this was actually pre-made for another order, but I decided that I could always make more seeing that the client had not yet collected her order.

These Peanut Butter & Beef doggy treats are absolutely irresistible to puppers big and small and on top of that they are high in protein and fiber.
Normally I make a variety of flavors including chicken as well as liver flavoured treats. When I start baking these, my dog simple refuses to leave the kitchen and patiently waits for each and every batch to come out so that she can do a thorough quality inspection with her teeth

I still have to make a post on the dog biscuit recipe and share how to make these nutritious doggy treats with my block-chain friends, and I will try and do that next time I make these. But that, my dear friends is for another day - when I actually remember to take pictures of the process...
