Twitter is a perfect place to lose friends, alienate people and generally dig yourself into a hole. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and on reflection, it would appear that the very first post I made, yes it was me folks, came across as an attack on @thepixiepost which it wasn't. I hold my hand up, it could have been constructed better however with character limitations words are at a premium on Twitter et al and I'm not keen on using Hive as a Quasi Mastodon/Twitter messaging service.

I have no time for Memes or lazy people who are not willing to put the time in to create something worth [reading] looking at. Now if a Meme was part of a larger post and designed to break up a creation that could be tagged "TLDR" then I don't mind that so much but what I really despise, as said on Twitter last night, is some video or gif of a hippopotamus farting that gains masses of votes because idiots (Yep I'm not mincing my words again) vote for it. Steem, towards the end, was just riddled with endless streams of videos that took no time or skill to produce and posted in most cases with little or no text to accompany them.

Part of the reason my posts are few and far between is that I will only post something I feel is worthwhile. I do not search high and low for something to post about something I see a lot of people doing. Some posts are almost like people are going through the alphabet: "A is for apple..... Today I bought an apple from the market, it was a lovely red apple and the man that sold it to me......" LOL

P.S. ping @steevc @stav

Never be a sheep, don't bleat with the rest of the crowd because you're worried about being cast out: Question everything. #hugs

Did the people who posted them make the videos? If they made them, as a video creator, I can tell you now, it did take time, skill and effort to produce it. IF they just shared other people's videos, it still took time, skill and effort but not their time, skill and effort so they shouldn't be profiting from it.

I'll admit that I do not watch so many videos, but there are plenty of people who prefer to vlog rather than write and there is an audience for that content, especially on mobile devices where reading is not so easy. Maybe peakd needs to show the word count on the feed so you know if there is something to read.

Some will be turned off by a wordy post and I may not read long ones unless it's something I'm really into.

I do not think Hive can afford to reject any type of content given that we only have a few thousand users. Making it easy to find what you want is a technical issue.

You mentioned that people are creating content on other platforms to profit on Hive, but 3speak is a Hive project and most of us will make nothing on Youtube, so why not share here where we can earn?

These discussions are worth having, but it will be small minority who participate. Others will just keep pumping out posts of cat memes or whatever in hope of making something. It's up to the community to decide if they have value.

So where do I find the farting hippo video?

LOL

There is one flaw in the "People prefer to watch videos argument. For a lot of us, we are at work which means we can't be caught watching films.

I take on board the fact that @3speak is an app and not a service, I hold my hand up, I got that wrong. Not sure if that warrants an apology and if it does to whom? #shrug

It can be a mistake to think you are a typical user, if there is such a thing. Should you be on social media at work? Auto-play videos may catch you out. There is a generation growing up who rarely use a PC. They are on their phones all day using Tiktok and Instagram (which I'm not on). Why shouldn't Hive have a slice of that market? We bloggers can still do our thing for those who enjoy it. We need to nudge the dapps to be usable by all types of user.

One of the perks of Management is you can do 'things' that minions are not allowed to. :-)

I've worked in some places where social media got blocked on the company networks, but people will still have their phones.

I had a customer once ask me how he could disable mobiles when they entered the workplace. And I do mean disable. I pointed out to him that:

    A. That might be illegal
    B. What happens if a relative is taken ill and the only contact the family knows is the mobile number?

You're not old enough to see the farting Hippo by the way.

Ah, dad!

I really need to be more awake to respond.
Please give me a few? Okay, maybe more than a few, more hours to wake up. :D

I think what a person posts should have meaning to the person that made it. Period.

There are also contests that help people earn Hive tokens. Most of those contests have themes to them so unfortunately, those posts will look a lot alike until you read them and see past the title.

I have a post I need to write today or tomorrow for a person's, whom I admire, contest. I will do the contest because I respect the person running it. He wants to give back to the community and I find that commendable.

what I really despise, as said on Twitter last night, is some video or gif of a hippopotamus farting that gains masses of votes because idiots (Yep I'm not mincing my words again) vote for it.

I happen to agree with you here. Yet, I believe in freedom of speech and also think some people love that kind of content. I don't 'get' it but who am I to judge what someone finds entertaining? As long as it doesn't hurt others

I just do not vote or try not to click on those kinds of posts.

I will agree 100% that there are problems, as I stated in my post, on finding the kind of content on Hive that I want to read. Following people really doesn't work anymore since communities happened. What was to help people find content, in my opinion, made it harder to find content.

Last, Thank You for taking the time to read the post and the great discussion you had with @steevc in the comments. I think it is an important issue to be discussed. It is why I wrote the post.

Have a wonderful rest of your day!!

I have been meaning to come back here for days. And not at 6am. Well, it.is 6.17am...lol

Anyhow, virtually everything you said resonates and as I've often trotted out before, one man's meat is another's poison. So, I am not wedded to a particular medium for what people post. My personal preference is writing and reading. I read and comment on what I like. That which I don't, I skip. This is a platform and people should use it as they please.

Rewards are a different matter. I won't go there, but you did see my comment on Twitter in @traciyork's #hivechat.

On communities: I loathe them. I think they are distracting and tantamount to closed shops. My posts don't easily fit. I don't easily fit, and feeling compelled to fit doesn't work either.

Occasionally, I post in a community. Mostly I don't.

Happy Saturday.

First question. WHY are you awake on a Saturday at 6:17 am?????? LOLL

I could not agree more with what you wrote!!!!!!!!!!!

and why wasn't I following you? I thought I was.

Happy Saturday to you!! It is still Friday night here: 11:35 PM :D

One of the things I love about #Hive is you get to meet and interact with the world and the wonderful smart people in it!

Because I have a stall at the village market on a Saturday morning. I have to be sure that my brain is at least half working by 9am when I have to a) be nice to people and b) add and subtract to give the right change. LOL!

and why wasn't I following you? I thought I was.

You are. On IG LOL!

I don't agree with that person's stance. The main reason I like these sorts of platforms is that people share art of all of types on it, whether that's writing, visual art, videos, something else or a mix like a video with accompanying text (much like how you described your own content and much like I have done in the past, especially when it comes to my robotics content). I think within reason anything goes is the right way to treat a creative platform.

The other thing I liked about these platforms is a lack of censorship. I am also on YouTube and Youtube started having a heap of censorship. If we start deciding some content is more acceptable for these websites than others based on if they are "low effort" or "high effort" or "good content" or "bad content" we create the same issue, just caused by snobbery instead of by advertiser demands.

I should be able to create whatever I want and put it on here and so should you and so should the person who complained about memes. If someone makes a funny meme, they should feel free to share it on here. If they didn't create said meme, they should have rewards turned off since it's not their creation, but that's the same for everything on here. We should be able to create and share and read and watch and look at whatever we want on these websites and snobbery over what medium it is (video, blog, written thought piece, meme etc) will only serve to make the site worse not better.

YES!!

You said this so much better than I did!!

Thank You for that!!

I personally am not interested in short form content, but don't see the harm in it - the chain can handle a lot of content, a lot more than it's getting ATM, so if people want to post memes and selfies, I say let them!

If people want to reward them, let them, and if you don't like it, DV them!

If people want to reward them, let them, and if you don't like it, DV them!

or just pass on by the post.
But exactly!!

I've got to admit, I don't watch many videos. Only from a couple really trusted friends. I'm not wired to video, I barely watch TV (I'm over a week without turning it on). I read. It's how I process information.

That said, I'm no fan of one photo posts, or a meme without context or the basic 'selfie' video. If I'm going to give up my time I want to be able to read and consider.

That's just me. Thanks for a really good post on a subject that needs to be broached. You can always find me under the 'writing tab'.

Hehehehe the funny thing is I NEVER watch TV.

I do not always have the written words to express all of what I am feeling in written form which is why I love making Ramble videos. I feel that is the way I can get my point across in the clearest manner.

I do know I run the risk of people not watching but in the end, I feel it is worth it.

Thank you for always being YOU!!

Wait. I think I said it poorly. I don't watch many vids, but those I trust to give me a return on my time I watch every single time. You are on that perilously short list.

I think it's just how we 'process' best.

Oh, even if you did say it poorly, which I do not think you did, I DO know you watch my videos when you have time.

Your comments could not be what they are if you never have watched one.

Hive is the one place I can be just me. I can be involved as much as I want or as little in the day to day running of Hive.

I have made true friends here that I know have my back in all things. I learned to write, make videos, make music, and poems. No one can take that away from me. I will stand up for anyone that wants to try something new on this blockchain.

Happy to be reading this from my favourite Hive Friend

Thank you Nathan for stopping to read my post!! I know how busy you are.

HUGS

You make so many excellent points here and I really want to do them justice. It's Monday morning. And my brain works like yours... And... 😂

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

It's Okay. It is 1:30 AM where I am, so take your time. LOLL I will be here on my tomorrow :D
