Today is the day when wreaths are hung on the house and taken to the cemetery.
Ivanjdan is a Christian holiday which marks the birth of St. John the Baptist, July 7 according to the Gregorian calendar, and June 24 according to the Julian calendar. Serbs associate a large number of customs and folk beliefs with this day.
The previous day I was with my sister to Susara to pick St. John's wort flowers.
On Ivanjdan, it is believed, the sun shines with the strongest force. Heaven and earth open, the sun stops, it plays three times in the sky, plants and animals speak, water and plants become miraculous and healing.
Whatever the occasion, wreaths of St. John's wort (Melilotus officinalis) are hung above or on the right side of the house the next day. It is believed that it will protect the home from accidents throughout the next year.
Thank you for visiting my blog 🤗💞
