My trip to Externsteine [One of the three centres of the earth]

The name Extern is unclear and Steine meaning "stones" or "rocks". Externsteine is an individual sandstone rock formation sited close the city of Detmold in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in north western Germany.

The geological formation consists of a hard erosion resistant sandstone laid down during the early Cretaceous era ab out 100 million years ago. Its sandstone rocks rise up to 40 meters high into the sky.

The remains visible today point the possibility that the Externsteine were wished for as a destination for pilgrims not capable to travel to Jerusalem.

The Externsteine are one of the best known tourist attractions in Germany, it receive approximately 650.00 visitors per year. Enjoy the beautiful harmony of the sandstone structures embedded in the imposing park reserve. The size of them will leave you in awe.
