Portaaviones Príncipe de Asturias (R11)

in #photography3 years ago

This ship was the flagship of the Spanish Navy. Before this aircraft carrier we had the WWII veteran "Daedalus", formerly USS Cabot, bought from the United States. But the R11 was the first aircraft carrier manufactured in Spain.

These photographs were taken in 2003 when he made a visit to the city of Algeciras escorted by the frigate Reina Sofía (F84).

In the view of the stern we can see two defense towers

The ship had a deck terminated in an elevated ramp to help planes rise without the need for more running meters. In addition, the Harrier for its nozzles that could move made a shorter takeoff.
