Hey guys, long time since my last update but here we are.
I am writing from memory (5 years back), so excuse me if I overlook some parts of the trip :)
Here are the highlights!
Indian Friends
If it wasn't for my awesome friends Anshumaan and Udai, the experience would not have been nearly as amazing, so I sincerely hope you know people in India if you are planning to go. It helps so much.
First of all, they took me to all these fantastic places to eat such as the Khan Chacha Market and The Great Kabab Factory.
OH, Oh! And the fantastical sweet paan!
And McDonalds.
Yeah, McDonald's was a highlight for me. Let me explain.
Indian McDonald's in the Back of a Rickshaw
In India, there are no Big Macs but Chicken Maharaja Macs!
That's right. So Even though normally this wouldn't be where I choose to dine, this was something special to experience. In the back of a rickshaw taxi. With my man Udai.
Talking about rickshaws, we did have some more fun with those. Absolutely the best way to get around this crazy town.
This is the way I roll. (lol)
India Gate
Naturally, I had to do some touristy stuff while my friends were at work. India gate seemed like the obvious choice to start with for an architecture lover.
The India gate was huge! It felt much bigger than the Arc de Triomphe that India Gate is dubbed to be the creative reworking off.
So, I grabbed one of these from a stall (by the recommendation of Udai) and head to see the sights. Man, it was delicious!
I also got to satisfy my quirky need to photograph other tourists.
I guess I never truly realised how big a deal cricket actually is over here until I saw people playing it in the park.
Gurudwara Bangla Sahib
This Sikh House of Worship is one of those places that I'm pretty sure I would have never gone to without my friends. The atmosphere was pretty intense and quite indescribable. Very very nice experience indeed.
We covered our heads with scarfs provided at the gates. Look how happy we all are. It was the place!
Lotus Temple
It is a widely known curious factoid that cows run free and untouched as holy animals in India and I am here to confirm that it is very true! Spotted this one on my way to another home of worship, The Lotus Temple of which I heard and read only good things.
I was mostly curious about its architecture that was supposed to be climatically responsive in design in that it wouldn't need any air conditioning to remain cool in the hot climate.
Already when I saw it from afar, my jaw was floored by the beautiful lotus design.
Once I got closer, it became crystal clear to me how the building functions.
Let me explain.
The water features around and under the temple work together with the gravitational ventilation of the tall building to take in the air through the water features, cooling it down in the process. (source)
I will not lie.
It worked perfectly.
The atmosphere inside was... pure serenity. I (at that time) didn't consider myself much of a spiritual man but for once, maybe for the first time during my adult life, I felt at peace.
My mind was empty.
I fell asleep.
I don't know how long but once I came to I felt like something had changed.
Did I just accidentally find what I was looking for from this whole trip?
Streets of New Delhi
