POSH changes effective soonly

in #poshlast year

While the initial idea was solid and has served us well for a long time; that being what we doing with our upvote mana of @poshtoken which has been going towards whitelisted authors who have earned POSH, it's time to switch it up a bit.

image.png

For anyone not aware, people can delegate to @poshtoken in exchange for half of the POSH issuance and soon also GOSH. In turn we use the curation rewards to further fund the project and its many initiatives, most of the funds have so far gone towards development, i.e. dev pay, maintenance i.e. servers, some contests and towards buying up POSH tokens from the market to maintain a good value of the token for further and future incentives of sharing. This required us to put the voting mana to good use and we came up with voting up posts of authors who have earned POSH, not bought, as the latter could open up leeway for abuse and "buying votes". This allowed POSH earners to apply for autovotes and over time we moved towards a more closed whitelisting method where we'd move people into the whitelist at our own discretion. The autovote list consisted of around 150 authors.

I hope you've enjoyed the value POSH has brought to you and in turn we thank you for utilizing POSH to share Hive links over the years and being early adopters of the project. The time has now come to put the same voting power to a different kind of use which I'll be talking about next.

There's a post of mine where I go through the @poshtoken comment voting activity and some thoughts behind it if you wanna take a quick look at the video:

Basically we're going to be forming a team of curators to go through all comments i.e. hive link shares to curate them. This may sound like a lot, and it is, and it is growing, but I think the outcome will be a big net positive for both Hive and POSH (and GOSH).

If you're not aware of what these comments are, they basically notify the author of a post when their post was shared on Twitter (if done correctly with a hive-front end link and the #hive tag), or when they're shared on Reddit or when they're shared on Leo's threads/dbuzz/liketu for the GOSH token. The comments will accept rewards in the form of upvotes to potentially get the sharer some Hive rewards as well, now also LEO rewards for GOSH. Not going to go further into that as I'd be repeating myself quite a lot from previous posts.

This curation will do a few things much better.

  1. It'll help cover more good shares to be rewarded in Hive/LEO/potentially also other l2 tokens as we've set up our own instance of @reward.app to help liquidate rewards with no fee
  2. It'll give us a better overview and detection of potential abuse/spamming/farming ongoing with POSH shares and possible twitter likes/retweets, whenever there's leeway for abuse/farming, some people will farm/abuse
  3. It'll help with incentivizing even more people to more often share posts on Twitter/Reddit and retent new users participating in the activity who may not have a big following on Twitter thus don't earn any if much POSH but can still get some Hive rewards here and there

In general I think it will make the project more robust, make POSH harder to farm/abuse and incentivize the sharing we want to see more of that brings value to our front-ends.

The downside to this is of course time and a lot of effort. As you can see from the video above going through the close to thousands of daily comments is surely going to take a lot of effort but we can't have the team be too big as abuse detection will be harder when spread towards too many users. (I know this may sound weird, but a few people going through comments daily will give a better overview of who might be farming, who might be trying some abuse, etc, in the form of remember usernames that may appear too often/are earning too much POSH/Hive rewards, etc).

While it would make sense to at this stage start a proposal to fund the project and curators we think we can make due with curation and post rewards the way we've been doing so far. It being a project that is meant to help the hive ecosystem as a whole and normalize sharing of content on #web2 we believe that taking a piece of the post reward pool for it is acceptable, especially given the fair airdrop nature of the token. If stakeholders disagree with this method and think post rewards could be better used in different ways, we're open to discussion and to instead create a proposal to fund the necessary work and costs involved with the project.

For now this is just a post announcing or new curation initiative, I'll be checking with curators who've been involved with POSH activities in the past to see if they're interested in participating first, if there isn't enough interest I'll be looking for people outside of the project if there's any eligible contenders.

Anyway, let us know what you think about this, will it be good, will it suck, will it be worth it? etc

Thanks for reading! Have a #posh day. xD

I know it's a lot of work for sure. I think I personally spend about 5+ hours daily on hive between writing, commenting, voting comments, replying to comments and curating. So yes lots of time involved with what you said in this post but also that's quality and encourages others to up their game and do and be better as well instead of trying to game the system. While it wont stop all abuse nothing ever will it's a step in the right direction to minimize it and show others who hive should be used and treated.

It sounds like a lot of work, but I think it's totally necessary and will be worth it. After all, as long as it's not done by just one person I'd say it's perfect, and added to that, someone constantly doing community on the platform rather than just a job will be a new addition to the routine. Interestingly in your video I even saw a user I usually comment to XD, so I'm totally sure it will be worth it to have people to take care of this.

Why up to this point have you not decided to make a proposal to fund @poshtoken btw? I mean it in a general way. I think a project like this will end up needing more expenses as it scales higher and higher, do you expect to reach a higher point (higher number of comments x day for example) or do you just don't see it necessary in the near future?

I don't really think it's necessary at this point, the costs are still relatively small and the way we've been doing it with minimal costs has seemed to still work out alright. That and in general when you look at the scope of where post rewards are going I don't think it hurts funding a project like POSH this way, many bigger stakeholders are even voting for hbd.funder which ends up stabilizing HBD and possibly returning a profit to the DHF so I tend to see this a bit of the same way.

If times change where we see a big influx of new users while price remains the same and or something happens to the amount delegated to ocdb where we wouldn't have a few extra daily votes to cast towards POSH then maybe that'd be a good time to consider trying the DHF.

It's always nice to spice things up once in a while and I think this is a totally beautiful idea and I'm sure most people will agree with it even if not all. The workload will surely be robust but then the task ahead is huge. Like they say, Nothing good comes easy and I believe with adequate planning and a good team, this will be a success even beyond imagination.

Well done to the great minds or mind behind this paradigm shift, it will be a fantastic one. The curation process especially manually is not easy at all but I trust the best hands and willing minds will be picked so no worries, hehe.

Thank you too for the $POSH initiative which I personally enjoy. The changes which you mentioned here would even be more valuable although as you said, it will take a lot of time and effort. If you will be needing more hands for this, I could spare mine :)

Great. I support the changes to the system. I am sure it will lead to better work and service using manual votes better, even though it can be cumbersome. i would like to express my interest in joining the curation team. I am available for at least 6 hours a day, and I am active on the platform. Thank you for all your work and dedication.

Oh fuck now I regret selling about 100 posh, but well, such is life; I still hold 15 tho, and now I'm gonna hold it even more xD

If you ever look for people outside, consider me, I would love to help anyway possible, big hug and glad to hear about new things coming to hive.

Holding posh hasn't mattered for the curation in the past and it won't matter for future ones. :D

Cool to know, thank you for clearing that idea out of me :)

but it might increase in value though!

or decrease,

or stay the same

There is a chance for it to increase actually, if some kind of holding value is added to the curation model or maybe more gosh percentaje when do sharing on leothreads, it would make holding posh to be more profitable and make people buy it more, but at the same time that would be exploitable and not good.

Totally unrelated, but, where do I report a thread's malfunction? https://alpha.leofinance.io/threads/view/jesustiano/re-leothreads-2yx8vl9qp here is my comment, but I never got a "Posh Threads" comment on the post, I found it odd but let it slide off until now that I remembered.

You need to use the #gosh tag now for it to trigger since some users complained that it was being triggered on every link share.

ok, Gosh, got it. Tthank you and thank you for your time :)

This is a necessary move (but like you said extremely laborious). Manual curation is very important and requires dedication from the people who do it. I hope that everything goes well during this transition and that you get qualified people for this job. (I know one or two capable people who might be interested if needed)

Greetings again

I have been one of the several beneficiaries of Posh's program. T try to share daily at least two posts through my twitter and although i don't have many followers, i believe that the use of the correct tags allows the content to reach others.

Reviewing so much content that is shared on Twitter must be a lot of work, but if you need any help i am available to help. This is my discord Felquin#3519

Like we already had the chance to share, I think that POSH is a great possibility for all Hive users and POSH users.
Curation will be tough, but luckily, there is plenty of "willing-to-work" guys and girls here that can be of great support with a correct level of awareness about the whole ecosystem.

I think that it will be a good amount of work, but if appreciated, I will be happy to apply for the curation team!

If you need any help regarding curation, I'm avaliable for at least a couple of hours on daily basis. Thanks for the update.

I am an active person in promoting my Hive colleagues, and promote our wonderful Blockchain. I think it is an excellent idea to avoid abuse. Success in these new proposals. I support it @acidyo 👏🏻

That's a lot of internet time 😯😵

That's the thought that came into my mind as I read through the post😂.
I feel it's a great initiative though😀, there was a time that something like this was going on pish if I'm not mistaken😂.

Where the twitter comments were getting upvotes and I was getting hive 7 days later, or was it for only me?

Anyways, I feel it'll surely boost the use of POSH and GOSH, not a lot of ways to earn hive for smaller accounts because they lack the HP to delegate to curating accounts like @ecency and @ocdb, and sometimes their HBD is being used for other purposes.
And the fact they'll earn both hive and Leo 🔥
This would be rather dope 😀✨

I like manual things because this prevents abuse of some accounts that are using too much just for their own benefit, I even thought of a suggestion regarding the delegates, but the whales would have more return after all, you can delegate more so maybe a "minimal" delegation for example "the one who delegates "50HP at least will have a daily visit" and whoever has the most will also have a daily visit, as long as the minimum has been reached, I believe that everyone has at least 50 HP in their hive accounts after all, post comment reblog I demanded to have HP on your account which I believe is around 50 considerably acepeted

Your time and effort will pay off, people love #posh and gosh and you are definitely creating a legacy that will be followed in the future.

All looks good, excited to start earning $POSH & $GOSH!

Great initiative! It's a lot of work, we all know it, but it will help in growing the community

Although it is cumbersome this new implementation of manual curation through the POSH token I think with this it creates a better incentive for everyone who shares on other web2 platforms like Twitter or Reddit, by the way will the curation of comments through Twitter work the same way for Reddit? Since it doesn't have the same functionality as the bluebird it is so little restricted to communities with its rules.

150 authors and I was part of the list! wow I feel lucky and early as you said. Thanks for the value that Posh is bringing into the ecosystem.
Manual curation isn't a bad idea, for me it will help checkmate and balance a few things. Goodluck with the next step.

Congratulations @acidyo! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain And have been rewarded with New badge(s)

You received more than 342000 HP as payout for your posts, comments and curation.
Your next payout target is 344000 HP.
The unit is Hive Power equivalent because post and comment rewards can be split into HP and HBD

You can view your badges on your board and compare yourself to others in the Ranking
