May Productivity Review and plans for June

I came up with a new method of goal setting and task tracking at the end of April - I decided what proportion of time I wanted/ needed to devote to general work-areas (May main blog/ Hive posts/ general chores/ future moving-house chores etc.), then decided on the specific tasks I wanted to achieve by the end of May in each category, broken down into hours, and put together a list of 200 'hour long' tasks I wanted to achieve in May, in different categories.

I then sorted these into weeks 1-4 and days Monday-Friday, and off I went.

I organised all this into a spread sheet, which ended up looking like this: (sample here if yer interested!)

May productivity review - how did I do?

My overall headline achievement figures look pretty bad: at <60% achievement:

HOWEVER, that's a bit exaggerated, because I had a lot of tasks like 'meditation' thrown in there, and I've done some of that in my non-work time.

Having said that, I have also spent a lot of time just lazing around, so not a great first month!

ReviseSoc Work

75% of what I set myself achieved

This is OK... I got all the main stuff done, which was getting ahead with material for my teaching resource subscriptions - improving those is key to my passive-ish income strategy going forwards. I produced a higher quality of material than I intended, but sacrificed some other areas - I wanted to write some general, fun blog posts, but didn't get round to it.

The biggest fail here was not finding the time to do SEO work on the site, that has to be a priority going forwards!

Hive work

70% of 'work' achieved

If it's even work?

I'm happy enough producing posts and commenting, but I really want to try and learn more about developing scripts that drag data from the chain, that's my fail here - no idea where to start, so that explains that, probably will be a fail next month too!

Physical Work

54% achieved - scuppered by painting the bathroom.

My main chore this month was to finish off painting the house - which I did, but the damn bathroom took twice as long as I thought - it's small, but devoid of easy surfaces, it's all nooks, too ages, and I lost the will to do anything else after this.

There was a lot of chores in this category which I didn't get round to, but I was trying to get ahead anyway.

I did sort of achieve getting my kitchen worksurface done, it just wasn't me who did it - I got someone in - RIGHT DECISION!

Worst achieving areas....

I had a few 'fun' tasks in May's goals, I don't think I did any of those, and my meditation tasks (about 5 hours planned) didn't go too well - I really need to tick off at least an hour for each next month!

Carrying over goals for June:

One of the great things about the spread sheet, is that I can just do a quick 'N' for tasks I haven't achieved and carry them straight over to June's spread sheet, which I've already done.

Here's my categories for things to achieve:

I'm still focusing on my main blog - I'm a month ahead of my publication schedule now, having just finished what's due to go out in early July and that feels really empowering, I like to be ahead of the curve, it just makes you so much more relaxed when it comes to producing stuff.

Besides this a big push to get the house on the rental market coming up - that's most of the physical chores, cleaning mainly. And then Hive, lots of Hive and some other bits and pieces.

I can't do worse than last month in terms of productivity surely?! Maybe I'll add on getting rid of that annoying double category there too?!?

Sort:

Sweet, I think putting it out in a spread sheet spells it out really nicely for you. For example painting and meditations seems a bit stressful, but since painting is done and you've set time for meditation monthly, how about SEO is it high priority in the coming weeks?

SEO is on my list - it ALWAYS appears on my daily list, and I nearly always never get around to it, I just find it such a chore!

This is mainly because I've got this course on it I should be doing - i need to research more about how I do it before i start updating posts/ doing social media.

It's something I don't enjoy, i should, I really should prioritise it!

I have updated about 50 of my top landing pages recently, so that's something. At least I've done the most pressing things!

Hahaha it's surprising that you said you should enjoy it, yet don't. Ohhhh never knew you had like a course on it.

I like how detailed this tracking and planning is. I think it's great to look back at it while planning the month ahead.

Hey cheers, sometimes it helps to look backwards in order to be able to go forwards!
