Splinterlands Continues to Fly

One month ago, we put out a blog post (Splinterlands: An Explosive Success Story!) detailing the rapid growth that had happened in July. We were pretty excited, because it debuted some exciting recent happenings:

  • New user sign-ups had 10x'ed in 30 days
  • Monthly Spellbook purchases had done the same
  • Land prices were also in that range
  • The Market Cap of Splinterlands cards was over $110,000,000 a 5x plus jump in one month
  • The new card rental market was proving successful, earning players a combined $5,000 daily
  • Splinterlands had successfully launched SPS, the new governance token

Now, as we are able to look back at what August has brought us, even these invigorating numbers began to pale.

Total accounts have 2.5x'ed this month

At the beginning of August, we were celebrating that the total registered accounts had doubled in a month and a half, reaching 200,000 registered users. As we head into September, the total accounts have already grown to over 500,000, a jump of over 250%.

(total accounts in 2021)

New Daily Sign-ups have 3x'ed this month

Last month we were celebrating the 10x growth of our daily sign-ups, which grew from around 500 as July began to 5,000 as we headed into August. Now, as we begin September, we are seeing around 15,000 new sign-ups every day. This represents as 3x increase in the last month, and is 30x jump in the last two months.

(Daily Sign-ups)

Spellbook purchases have 4x'ed this month

At the end of July, we were celebrating reaching 50,000 total Spellbooks purchased, half of which were bought in the last 45 days before August. Then, over 150,000 spellbooks were purchased in August alone, a 400% increase in a single month. For some perspective, this means that the game now gains the same number of Spellbook owners in a week that it saw in the entire first two years of Splinterlands existence.

(Total Spellbooks Owned)

Daily Spellbook purchases increasing every month

In June, the average number of daily Spellbooks purchased was just over 50.
In July, the average number of daily Spellbooks purchased was more than 500.
In August, the average number of daily Spellbooks purchased exceeded 5,000.
More than 75% of all Spellbooks that have ever been purchased were bought last month.

Not reflected in the graph above, which only depicts numbers through the end of August, is the fact that the first day of September saw more than 10,000 Spellbooks purchased, a new exciting record. We look forward to seeing how much happens this month.

Daily Market Volume has doubled, tripled and quadrupled this Summer

Another fun metric to look at is the Daily Market Volume. This number represents how much total volume was done on the secondary market every day.
In May, like many months before it, around $8,000 worth of transactions occurred on average daily.
In June, this number nearly doubled, and around $15,000 was exchanged on any given day.
In July, this average increased more than 3 times to about $50,000 daily.
In August, then, the average quadrupled to around $200,000 every day, the last days of the month seeing $300,000+ in transaction volume.

The first day of September alone, not pictured on this graph, saw more Market volume than any entire month prior to this Summer.

The total monthly market volume numbers show this growth even more drastically than the averages, in addition to just being a really fun graph to look at:

The higher the market volume, the more that Splinterlands asset owners are selling the cards that they want to sell and buying the ones that they want to own. And that's good news for everybody.

Splinterlands Market Cap has nearly doubled in the last month

The Splinterlands Market cap is a number used to estimate the value of all Splinterlands cards held by all owners across the game. To arrive at this number, each card's lowest listed sale price (on the secondary market) is multiplied by all of the DEC power that exists for that card. This gives a rough estimate of what it would cost to purchase all Splinterlands cards (although of course, not all cards are for sale, and not all sales are listed at that lowest price). The measurement it not exact, but does a good job of showing the relative value of Splinterlands assets, especially over time.

Last month we were celebrating a market cap of over $110,000,000, the result of an enormous vertical jump in asset value over the previous month, as demonstrated in this graph from the end of July:

Now, one month later, Splinterlands market cap is over $200,000,000, thanks to another steep vertical climb after a very short-lived plateau:

This increase in Market cap is reflected in the value of assets held individually, meaning that it is very likely that individual Splinterlands asset owners have seen their own cards dramatically increase in value over the last couple of months, even if they aren't looking to sell.

Rental Market daily revenue has 6x'ed in the last month

This upsurge of value, of course, means an upsurge of prices, too. With so many new Splinterlands players entering the game now, while there are no new packs for sale, and with the drastic increase in the prices of the only available cards on the secondary market, it can be difficult for new players to purchase cards with which to play.

So it's a good thing that the Splinterlands card rental market is here to fill that gap!

Last month saw about 135,000 active rentals at any given time, and card owners were making a combined $5,000 a day renting out cards. As we head into September, despite card rental prices remaining affordable, the combined daily rental profits is upwards of $30,000 from over 350,000 active rentals. This means that, without any additional growth, Splinterlands cardholders are making over $10 million annually for renting out their cards.

With player growth currently at 5% every day, we are doubling in size as a community every three weeks. At this rate, we are set to hit 1,000,000 active users in December of this year.

Thank you to our incredible community of loyal players and collectors! None of this success would be possible without you behind us, and your support means the world to us.

There's no way I could have imagined 3 years ago that these little cards would be so ridiculously valuable. My intro was the Kickstarter campaign where I threw down a $100 really just to help out and support the project... but now I wish I had done that amazing $200 level.

Lots of "wish I had" going around but the important part is we are here now, playing and holding onto assets that are worth lots of money and will continue to increase!

Totally agree... it's already been wildly amazing and I really should just appreciate the amazing good fortune of being right here right now.

wish I had mint Bitcoin back in 2009

I know this feeling, ive sold lots of cards in my collection (and bought a bunch too) My collection would be worth millions to day if I just held.

I don't know how many 10s of thousands of gold foil cards I burned when DEC launched... it was enough for an amazing head start on a solid Orb collection, but omg what they bring today...

know the sellout feeling :)

Yeah man... I actually remember you having so many cards back in the day. You were doing a ton of giveaways too I think...

This is hilarious!

Literally second through the door lamenting getting here late. It's the crypto curse. You're always too late to everything. ALWAYS. I love it!

good for u man

It's so far beyond my wildest dreams! every day is like walking on a cloud now! 😝

Yeah, and the hits just keep on coming. Ape Mining Club is cool and I got a 115 alpha packs for dcrops last night after seeing it has an appeal, too.

Lol, I wasn't even wanting to play it, just hold some packs for down the road but I screwed up and opened one to check it out and now I have a fucking virtual farm.

I accidentally became the owner of a farm. What kind of sorcery is this?!

Anyway, I still have 95 packs because I think I'm finally wising up and just buying the legendary stuff while it's cheap and saving the lotto for the latecomers. 😁

so regret I sold my entire deck during the downtime of 2020-07
including the kickstarter $50 pack and GOLD FOIL sea of rule
It wasn't much that time and now it can totally change my life

There's opportunities abounding here! You'll find yours.

What's really crazy is that those numbers seem like a lot but still dwarf in comparision to games like Axie and a number of others on wax. (That's not talking negativly about Splinterlands at all) Instead what it means is there is still MASSIVE potential for growth. When new decks release we should see a major bump in people playing more and getting active onthe markets. Then we get some new dice pack thingy and after that we get land! HUGE potential still for all.

Damn now those are some sexy graphs and words LOL.

Keep it up, Splinterlands team but everyone who is playing! We will experience growing pains but that's what happens when people discover one of the best-kept secrets in online gaming!

I'm sure you now have the server company sales director on speed dial, anticipating the next upgrade to the server cluster you're using!

Congrats on the success so far! Can't wait to see where you all take this game in the future!

Yippppeee!!! This POST IS PERFECT! Thank you SO MUCH for posting it!! You can see the rewards so easily here! Thank you!! Cheers to Splinterlands!!

Well Playes Splinterlands! <3

keep up the good work @splinterlands ! I just joined this game slightly less than 2 months and I am already making significant progress! Keep it up, this is both an enjoyable and potentially lucrative game!

I'm a new player to Splinterlands, and I'm really enjoying the game. Most of the other NFT games are glorified loot boxes with a marginal actual game, and a lot of focus on buying tokens for future rewards. Splinterlands is a great game at the core and the play to earn / pay to be top is something I'm ok with.

One comment - it's fairly expensive to buy cards right now and I do like to collect in games. The new expansion can't come quickly enough. Hopefully there's a mechanism with the token to pre-buy packs where us new players can still be eligible with the modest SPS we have staked at this point.

Been fun so far, congrats on the success!

We've never experienced this type of price action for cards or DEC. bear with us all as we enjoy it but also learn the nuances of it! It’s a long, great road but usually with new things being released, the prices of other things come down. I don’t know if the prices of the historical stuff will come down by much considering they are finished printing but it might. Keep playing, stacking cards and enjoying the ride!

Looking at these charts just makes me amazed and happy. I am happy to be able to support this game and watch it develop from practically the beginning. #gosplinterlands

Yeah playing against humans is a new thing it seems. I can't remember the last time I lost this many times hahaha. It's all good though, would rather have an actual challenge than fighting bots all the time!

card announcement coming? new players gotta be shying away from these high card prices? We want packs, we want packs! Game is addicting and indeed growing fast!

It's good that you guys have exponential amount of growth, HEHE! i am even one of them, but has your actual card distribution to players had also increased 3-4 times also. Getting one or two card in a season while the drop rate is supposed to be 33% doesn't really look nice.

i really just started 2 months ago and even then i can feel & see the amazing growth from there.

I wish I found this game sooner. But I guess overall I'm still kinda early. Especially seeing how much the game continues to grow. But do you have a way of knowing which accounts are from new users vs multiple account users?

No, not really. Anyone can create an account and buy the spell book so there isn't a way to tell outside of looking at their transactions and guessing.

Plz make a whitelist for folks who do not run bots, and wish to purchase quest potions with credits.

There's nothing wrong with running bots. It's a part of the game that's needed to get battles. We have a lot more players now so it won't be as much of an issue but the bot accounts were needed before and the owner of a bot has a lot of upfront costs and continued costs so I'm not opposed to them getting rewards for their service.

Huge mile stones and only the start. Imagine what it will be like when land rolls out and the game becomes even more crazy active with now many resources to be traded. It's going to get wild! Merry Christmas?

began to pale.

Thank you for bringing great opportunities for both old and new players. Keep going. amazing job ♥♥♥

So all of this being said, you guys need to hurry up and start releasings some more cards/nft's to accomodate the massive growth. With a limited supply already it is putting a cramp on the little guys out there while the rich get richer. Yeah it's great for second hand card values and those renting but it isn't very appealing cost wise for the newcomers trying to fight there way to higher leagues and once the "having to maintain" rule goes into play regarding seasonal rewards it will be even harder since that the power level will need to be maintained by renters to collect rewards for levels achieved. Sorry to throw a wet blanket on a success story, I hope this thing goes to the moon, but just try to remember to take as many as possible with you when you leave orbit!

You have to remember, we've never seen this type of exponential growth. It's a learning experience and one that changes what they are doing all the time. The Splinterlands has been very good at producing things in appropriate quantities to have balance in the game. Such exponential growth completely throws off their calculations when they were originally designing the new cards. Be patient! We all are in the same boat, even if you've played the game for years like I and others or you are a new user. It's better to have thought it out sufficiently than run into supply issues very soon after you release something.

So great bros

Keep up the great work splinterlands is definitely the best thing about hive 👍🏾

keep up the good job splinter team

The stats is very impressive and well done!!

My wife is one of the new players, luckily she had an old dormant Steem account with a few Steem in that she could transfer, just to get a bit of DEC to participate in the airdrop!!

I am a bit worried about the new players as it is very difficult to progress in the game if you don't invest money. To receive only one chest with a few DEC will be discouraging in the long run, I think we need to look at ways to keep these new players happy, so that they don't leave again!! Perhaps we need to ensure that they at least get a card or two in a week, as quest reward.

For me, I love the rental market and it gives a nice additional DEC supply. #PeakMonsters had a nice feature that showed if your rent was below or above the prevailing market prices, which is currently not available. This feature helped a lot to keep your rental prices inline with the market, it would be great if they could fix this again.

The sky is the limit for #Splinterlands!!

That's a tricky slope to be on. Who's to say someone doesn't just create a bunch of "new" accounts to get the guaranteed cards with a chance of getting something good like a legendary? I know what you mean for sure but it's hard to figure out how to do that properly. Once the new packs get released some of the prices will come down and cards might become more reasonable to buy. Plus the new cards will usually be very cheap.

I hope you are right with the cheap prices for the new cards!!

Wow, I am in the July batch and continue to love this game. It is highly competitive and addictive and unlike any other crypto-game I came across, it focuses on the player and the community and not on the pockets of its developers and that is the truly magnificant part of this game.
I am very thankful to have found this game, even at this not so early stage. I believe, we have a long way to go, to reach the peak and even after that, I can't see a decline in value.

Almost unbelievable! But we're living it...

Was this all organic growth or did you guys pulled off some serious marketing work???
Either way this is exactly what I wanted for Splinterlands. So happy to see the game become a hit 🚀

I recently joined and I love it, it's nice that this community is growing.

Wow congrats splinterlands, enjoy playing ❤️ in my 1 month in splinterlands I got 3 accts for only 10usd just grinding and playing 🙏🙏

Just started 3 weeks ago, and loved the game. Waiting for the next batches of packs that are coming soon.

Congrats!

Nice to see such a good project have such a popularity. Joined back in January but never bought anything. Those regrets are real but can only wait for you guys to release the Chaos pack which I can't wait to buy ! Keep up the great work !! Love this game

Let's hope it growes even more till the end of the year

Great news, keep up the good work! :)

This game just changed everything!. I can't imagine why I did not played this years ago! I'm just a starter and I'm freaking love it. I just hope the wifey would understand where will the missing money will be LoLx!

Splinterlands has passed the Moon and is heading towards Mars.

At first i don't know how to play the game but now am getting used to it. Fun game yet lavish. I'll still play it during my spare time and quite loving it.

what a time to be alive

What an incredible success story this is!

I'm absolutley honoured to be a part of the Splinterlands journey and have been here since it's conception (SteemMonsters).
@aggroed remember the Darren Claxton live performances on @mspwaves back in 2018?
Those are great memories and I'm also proud to know you mate.
