Will Steem & Hive walk hand in hand (chartwise) like Ripple and Stellar?

in #steem4 years ago

It feels very good to be several months into the after-fork life on both Hive and Steem. I feel as if the quality is getting better on both platforms, and the war is starting to settle. There have been some ups and downs for both the currencies in value since the start. The biggest pumps happened to Hive, but after that, both currencies seem to quiet down. And this is when I find it interesting... they seem to follow one another quite closely, quite similar to Ripple and Stellar.

Above you can see charts of Ripple (XRP), Stellar (XLM), Steem, and Hive... all compared to their Dollar value.

We have for a long time known that Stellar and Ripple move in quite similar ways. The Dollar value is always higher for Ripple, but if Ripple go on a Lambo-Moon-Run, you can be sure that Stellar will follow in their footpath quickly. There seems to be something automatic about it.

Here I have updated the time interval to be a weekly chart, and once again we can see that Ripple and Stellar follow the movements of one another. There are, of course, differences, and you will not always see that they are moving the exact same way, but in the large picture, they do follow one another. As a result, I would be greatly surprised if Ripple would moon without Stellar moving in the same direction.

That leads to my question... what about Hive and Steem?

Hive is still too young to say something for sure, but based on what we have seen in the last couple of weeks, they seem to move in similar ways. Hive is getting more minor pumps maybe than Steem, but if you look at the general curve, they seem to be moving in very similar ways.

Here you can see the movements of Steem and Hive since the start of June (paired with Bitcoin). Since Bitcoin has been standing mostly still, the BTC pairing will show almost exactly the same as the Dollar pairing, so it doesn't really matter which pairing I would show in the picture.

But, will Steem and Hive keep on moving likewise?
It is a brilliant question and I have no chance at all to answer the question. But, I can only speculate, based on what I have seen so far. In the last days, we have seen minor spikes for both Hive and Steem, and they have had a 10% rise in value towards BTC. Will it continue in the same way? If the answer is yes, those on the Hive side and those on the Steem side will sit back happy in the end. Or will one of the ships sink, and some will say "shit, I should have gone to the other side", while the others will sit back, laugh, and say: "I told you so?!"

A few minor thoughts from me...

If I forget about the charts, I would maybe bring up these factors that might influence the movements.

  • Hive has lots of dedicated users and an incredible number of creative developers. They will for sure work hard to keep the platform alive.
  • Steem is improving, even though the platform still lacks some apps that would be sorely needed. But, it is improving.
  • Steem has a big organization in the background, and they have funds to use. I doubt that they would let Steem down next to a flourishing Hive.

It is also interesting to see that the activity on both platforms is starting to look quite similar. For a long time, Hive had way more comments and articles posted, but Steem seems to get closer when it comes to activity (based on the stats from @penguinpablo, which I love to read).

I am not sure if it makes sense, but I think I just tried to say that I believe the two platforms and the token values will go hand in hand together for a while longer!

What do you think?

Now, I have just written down my total layman thoughts on the topic. What do you think? Will Steem or Hive go on a bullrun while the other move downwards? Will they move hand in hand when it comes to value? What would you expect?

I would love to hear your thoughts!

This article is published on both Hive and Steem, as I would love to hear the thoughts of people on both platforms.
