Day 2 - Face Mask, Not-so-ordinary ordinary challenge

in #teamuklast year

Face masks are very popular in many countries in Asia, particularly Japan and Taiwan. In the rest of the world, face mask was an alien object to most people unless you worked in medic related field. Until 2020. Since then and until probably early this year, like it or not it has become an essential item in our lives.

I always dislike wearing face mask as it makes me feel uncomfortable especially when I was living in Taiwan. The hot weather makes one sweat a lot. Then COVID broke out at the back end of 2019 and January 2020, way before the rest of the world knew about it. Face masks had to be rationed in Taiwan and being a foreigner, I was not on the ration list. When I returned to UK in February 2020, face masks were selling like hot cakes even though they were the flimsy 2 ply ones made in China. Nobody bat an eyelid if you wore a face mask now. On the contrary, you'd get strange looks if you didn't wear one. Luckily, lockdown meant I didn't need to use many face masks. A few months later my friend from Taiwan sent me a batch as they had ramped up production. Proper medical grade good quality stuff.

By 2021, my Taiwan stock had dried up. Although the COVID situation was improving, I figured I'd better get more as there was still no end to all this. I was in Spain for holiday in March, my first for two years, and was over the moon to find face masks made in Spain. I bought two boxes immediately.

Hubby bought a box of black face mask. Black was a sign of defiance during the 2019 protest in Hong Kong. Many protesters wore full black outfits including black face mask and hubby wanted to support the cause even though they've been suppressed now.

I know many people dislike wearing face mask and the conspirators don't think they prevent the spread of disease. I'm no scientist, but if all the doctors and nurses wear them, surely they serve a purpose? Just think, if you needed a surgery/operation, and the medical team came into the operating theatre in their normal daily clothes with no PPE at all, would you feel safe?

Today I still keep a few face masks in my handbag. You never know when they might be needed. Like when I was in Hamburg last month, it turns out that face mask was still mandatory on public transport.

Face mask is one of those not-so-ordinary things that have crept into our lives in recent years and become an ordinary item. It protects and distants people. It creates waste and is environmentally unfriendly, no denying that. What's your view on it and what impact has it had on you in recent years?

This day 2 of my supposedly 30 day of the Not-so-ordinary Challenge. You can find out more about it in my post here and whilst you're there, why not take part in my HPUD Guessing Contest for a chance to win 20 HBD

Face mask more like a Game changer for all Introverts !LOL even everything is now normal like no need to wear masks but I still do wear whenever I go out. Truly become an essential part of our life!

Still remember a box of face mask was selling around $20 which was barely for $1 before pandemic.

would you feel safe?

No.

I agree with your point of View... Masks ain't ordinary anymore... Not much impact in my life, never felt irritated or bad wearing it instead much better.

Game changer for all Introverts

That's certainly very true, no need to shy away from people anymore!

Day 2? It's the 4th today. Where have you been for two days? 😲

What's your view on it and what impact has it had on you in recent years?

During winter, it makes my glasses blurry and I am usually walking blind. (short version)

Abducted for two days LOL... Subject of experiment with masks LOL

In winter the days are shorter, so need two days to make up one 😁

Cheater!

I personally like the black face mask. I also think alot of people unknowingly supported that cause.. Not sure what cause but yeah👀

Face Mask? It was like a 1 year thing in Denmark :p

My friend in Sweden they had no lockdown at all, can't remember what they said about face mask, probably none

The Nordics are so chilled

Ye, the Swedes did do that, but they also had higher death rate than the rest of the Nordic countries in the beginning. Before we learned how to manage it :D

Ye, we are :D Its pretty neat xD

Even though I stayed home most of the time during COVID, I wore the black facemasks when I had to.

ps; My friend who works in the hospital as a surgeon told me they had to change masks every 30 minutes because otherwise, you'd be inhaling your own bacteria etc.

Love this shot!

Most people aren't aware of the need to change masks frequently and that they're not supposed to be left exposed. I cringe when I see shops or even hospitals leave a box out uncovered for people to take 😖

Thanks for your lovely comment, this challenge has given me the opportunity to practice some photography and learn more about myself

I'm wearing face mask since day one of the pandemic until now. That sucks, right? HK is not done with it yet while other countries are already free, lol.

HK along with its boss is just stupid. No one in the rest of the world really cares about COVID anymore, it's just like another flu. I really feel sorry for my friends and family still in HK

exactly...it's just like a flu.... We're are tired wearing facemasks already..especially in summer..

I also put some extra face masks on my bag always. Here in the Philippines, wearing face masks is no longer mandated but I still have no trust in some ordinary people here. For me, all people I pass through are a walking time bomb. We never know who are the carriers of some viruses. And I don't mean covid 19 only- some viruses are really deadly.

I know what you mean, but wearing face mask in Asia particularly in the summer is really very tough

yeah, one of our struggles even up to this day. Sometimes i just tend to remove my mask if I trust the environment.

I am one of the statistics that does not like to wear a mask in my country almost nobody uses it except some locals who ask for it as a requirement to enter, although the government has not lifted the restriction, whenever I go out I forget to wear it and I have to be buying it, here they sell them in any informal stall.

Is it still required by the government when entering buildings? What restrictions are still in place now?

The government has not removed the restrictions but very few people wear masks, only in banks is it mandatory to enter and inside they are removed.

Very good post. Excellent photos. About the mask, I think it is very useful to keep using it at least in closed or air-conditioned places and when you are surrounded by many people. I never got infected with COVID, or at least I don't think so.
I still wear a mask today in the cases mentioned.
I am also participating in this challenge. So far I have managed to make a daily post. Were you abducted? 😆
Greetings from Cuba!

I love how you have structured your posts and the ordinary objects you have used are so interesting. No wonder you are not abducted 😄

📸 I have managed to stay safe... We are almost at the finish line 🤫⛄🎁

We still need to wear on public transport and hospital grounds.

I can understand public transport as it's a tight confined space, and it's good that there are no restrictions for vaccinated tourist entry
