Thai Photo Contest: green colour in the countryside and simple life,

This is my entry for green photography in #thaiphotocintest67 hosted by @thaiteam. The rain has arrived in the north-east of Thailand. This has brouht a big relief to many farmers, my neighbours and everyone in my house. But I haven’t asked my cats whether they like the heavy rain with strong wind. However, the rain came a bit too late for several people who had already planted rice in anticipation of the usual rain cycle. My tuk-tuk driver lost all his rice crop this year as the rain did not arrived as expected. So, his family will have to buy rice for consumption this whole year.

These fields have access to local pond with water pumped up from the river. So, these farmers could plant rice at least twice a year. Many people have sold their land to wealthy town people and investors who would make lots of profit in a few year’s time. But the pandemic has changed all that; there are signs ‘land for sale’ going up along the road. I have been telling friends to prepare for when money has no meaning and chaos becomes reality of everyday life. I suggested that they should have a safe house where they could live a self-sufficient life style during the upheaval time. They all thought I was a bit crazy. But with the pandemic and tensions between super-power countries, people start to entertain the possibility of a world war some day. Now, the prices of land had gone up four to five folds; the cost of house construction has also become very expensive.

I was quite surprised when my construction friend told me that he had finished building three houses for three couples of European expats and local Isaan (north-eastern) ladies. He would have a other project this month. Several years ago, there were about thirty expats who rented houses or apartments for long stay during the winter months in Europe. I would see them cycling all over town and congregated for beer party at one of their friends’ coffee shop in the evening. Nowadays they have all disappeared except for those married to local ladies. I could still spot two expats cycling by the river. Luckily, the Chinese have not yet invaded the countryside here like they have done so in some districts of Bangkok and Chiengmai. I was told about how these Chinese investors bought rows of townhouses in some areas in Bangkok. This is bad news as there must have been corruptions and bribery concerning local officials! This reminded me of the times when Russian mafia actually controlled dark businesses in a famous seaside town. Then, one day a change of the police chief led to the spectacular arrests of these mafias and their gunmen many years ago. I do wonder whatever happened to the really big bosses, I didn’t think they would be arrested as there would be dire implications or revenges. The true story is still a mystery to me.

So, it is important to know some basic local power relationships before deciding to settle down any where. Life is more simple in areas where there are no sources of quick wealth which will attract businesses and investors, such as a casino or red light districts where drug and human trafficking business would come into play. That’s why I chose somewhere with good vibes with lots of mysterious legends from the past. This is where contacts with UFOs could be quite easy; including those from the underworld as well.

LOVELY images @kaminchan - could easily be out the back of my village here in Mae Rim too - quintessential Thailand.

I never get tired of the colours, the sense of abundance and the feel of this country.

Funny, I was just thinking that I haven’t seen your posts a few days now, then your comment pops up! Something is happening to my sense of time, I even thought I had lost two days of time! I thought it’s already Saturday!

Yup, green fields are very beautiful. But I am afraid farmers are using too much chemical fertiliser plus pesticides today! I always wonder how long this will last. Most romantic or innocent looking scene has some unspoken hidden agenda. Luckily, Mother Earth still gives out good vibes to sustain ignorant earthlings.

Take care.

wonderful pictures!

Very good for you! You could move back to the north of Thailand!?

Thank you for your visit.

A la orden

Green is a tranquil relaxing color... 😊

Yah! Very important colour full of energy!

It is wise to heed your warning in regards to devaluation of currency. Tell the tuk tuk driver to grow sweet potatoes. Easy to grow and filling. Sometimes I just eat steamed sweet potatoes with hard boiled eggs. Yeah, what you wrote is very true. Important to research powers at play to avoid unforeseen situations. Also important to determine good water source supply for those intending to purchase a piece of land for farming.

You like sweet potatoes with boiled eggs!! You’ll survive anywhere. Thank you very much for your practical suggestion.

Water is very important indeed. It will what people would be fighting for on the future. I do hope you have already put into action some contingency plan too. It takes a lot of time to start a small project.

Cheers.

You're most welcome. It's good to do crop rotation to maintain health of soil. Yes, I do have a contingency plan. Thanks for reminding. At the moment dealing with my father's sudden decline of health. Hope the tumor in his throat is benign. Otherwise, my father had a pretty good life so need to prepare to let go. Useless being sad because it's the way of life - birth, ageing, suffering, death.

Hope things will turn out well for you! Things are changing all the time! One needs all the energy one can get.

Thank you for your well wishes! Happy weekend! 😄

Thank you very much! Sunday’s a lazy day for me!
