Musing about herbal plants.

in #thaiphotocontest704 years ago (edited)

This is my entry for flowers composition in #thaiphotocontest70 hosted by @thaiteam. Yesterday I went shopping at Central Mall in Rama3 road. This mall is very spacious and fully air-conditioned so I often go there for my walking exercise! The whole shopping mall consists of six floors with shops and department store which should be bigger than a football field.

So, walking along six floors of walkways made me yearning for my tea break. Luckily, I was caught up with the flowers arrangement in a flower shop on the sixth floor. That was the answer to my blog entry for Thai community contest. The staff there allowed me to take as many photos as I wanted. So, I had a good time losing myself among colourful display.

At my farmhouse or country home, we hardly have space or time for growing popular and expensive flowering plants. We would go for edible and medicinal plants and trees. We do have some flowering plants which are hardy and easy to look after; some of these flowers could be deep fried in egg batter. But I do like colourful flowers with sweet fragrance as they are very good for lifting up our moods and vibes.

We tend to have lots of white flowering plants as these flowers could be used as offerings in religious ceremonies at the temples and in our shrines. Several days ago, my gardener had very bad tooth infection after seeing the dentist. The local dentist only gave some pain killer tablets. My gardener recalled my tale about one tree I had planted specifically for curing tooth and gum infection. After chewing a few leaves for five minutes, she felt so much better and the inflammation began to subside.

A friend of mine gave me a little book on Thai plants and their medicinal properties, but I could not remember where I kept this. How I wish I had more spare time to start all my projects on experimenting with plants healing properties.

I began to be interested in plants' healing properties when I was house sitting for an elderly relative several years ago. The house was quite big but the owners could not move in due to an illness. So, I lived there for several months, looking after the house with five dogs. One day the oldest dog called Daeng cried out loudly as if he was hit by a car. I rushed to see him only to find out that he was bitten by a small cobra in the garden. His tongue was so swollen that he could not close his mouth.

Luckily I had been given two plants which were supposed to be useful against snake poison. I issued instruction to the gardener to fetch some leaves and pound them before putting them in boiling water. I poured the potion into a sprayer so that I could spray the herbal water onto Daeng’s tongue. He reacted positively with less painful noises. In the end, I poured a little quantity of the herbal water onto his tongue directly every few minutes. His tongue became less swollen and he became much calmer.

The whole episode took over an hour, as I had to sit beside the dog all the time to calm him and pour the concoction onto his tongue. The gardener was quite amazed by my experiment. At first I thought this dog would die of suffocation. I never saw such a big blown up tongue that fit the whole mouth before. It was a horrible experience for the dog and I had missed my breakfast and was late for work. However, I was so glad Daeng could get up and climbed over some boxes to jump over the wall two hours la two hours later. He was a very smart dog but he liked to chase other dogs too much. I had not visited that house for many years since my relative had to sell his house in the end. I hope all those dogs were looked after by the new owner.

I used to drop by with some bags of dogs food; I met the new caretaker who told me that these dogs were staying at the house as guard dogs. That was precious experience for me to learn to train five dogs and had close friendship with them. There were many scorpions and snakes around the wild garden in that house. That was where I learned to talk to snakes too. I still could not find those two rare plants for my own garden; I really must try harder to find them.

Interesting! Normally Echinacea, Mongoose Plant, Plantain Leaves, Turmeric and activated charcoal are useful in treating snake poison.

Very interesting!! How do you apply these?! Any links?

Thank you very much.

**Before you apply on humans, please get consent to avoid lawsuit. Some human beings are nasty even if you are sincere in helping them. They have too much resentment.
Hanging necklaces made of garlic on dogs can prevent snake bite. Garlic are naturally rich in sulfur. Snake hate sulfur.

Thank you very much for the information. I would not try my herbal medicine on other people! It’s for myself and those in the house only. Most villagers believe in chemical drugs as they were dispensed by doctors!! They trust those inexperienced young doctors!! Scary!!
