Where have I been? Solve the Quiz and Win ๐Ÿ– Hive!

in #travel โ€ข 4 years ago (edited)

Under the current restrictions, the own hard drive remains the last travel destination for many of us. And that is to where I set out today, on a #harddrivetour into the past. Travelling 16 years back in time I arrived at one of my favorite holiday destinations. Will you find out where?

  1. Which island have I been to?
  2. What is the name of the beach where I took these pictures?
  3. What is the name of the legendary villa in the last picture?

โ— Choose ONE question only โ—

For each question, the first correct answer will be rewarded with 5 Hive!

The way to the beach leads over a mountain saddle on a narrow dirt road. I remember that I was driving a half-collapsed Fiat Panda at that time. With oncoming traffic it quickly became "exciting". Especially if it was a bus or truck.

IMG_c0925.jpg

The view from the saddle was breathtaking. And it still is. Last time I checked was in 2015.

And everywhere these enchanting succulents that defy the adverse conditions.

IMG_f2.jpg

In such a barren environment one cannot avoid admiring these little survival artists.

The closer one zooms in the more psychedelic it becomes.

Even out of the salty sand strange life forms are emerging.

A gigantic fingertip sticks out of the spray, seemingly luring the viewer onto the open sea.

With this mountain piling up as an almost perfect cone, it is easy to recognize the volcanic origin of this geologically still young island.

When looking at this picture I always feel reminded of a famous film scene.

Myths and legends surround the villa in the lower left of this picture. Once you find out its name, you can start your own research. It's entertaining. There's a small airfield about 12 km west of the villa for which there is no explanation until today. But one thing is for sure, you will only find a few houses in Europe where you can live more remote than in this one.

I hope you enjoyed this little #harddrivetour. If you do one yourself, feel free to link it in the comments so that I can stop by.

Beautiful island with wonderful sea view! The mountains are magnificent, especially the one in the 9th picture. The piles of stones are amazing.

The flowers are gorgeous with lovely colors and the little plants are beautiful with amazing shapes. Great capture! Thanks so much for sharing. ;)

Thank you!

My pleasure! ;)

Cassetten. Nochmal was aus guten alten Zeiten.

The photos and the landscape are just amazing !

Thank you!

The second question's answer is Playa de Cofete beach?

You got it! ๐Ÿ–HIVE will arrive in your wallet soon!

Thank you :)

No way! I canโ€™t do this! My psychic power is flat out today! I need to recharge my psychic battery!

Hope you can recharge soon again!

This looks like the Canary Islands maybe Lanzarote

Knapper geht's gar nicht, leider. Lanzarote liegt nur einen Steinwurf weiter nรถrdlich.

Knapp daneben!

Which island have I been to?

Is it the Canary Islands?

ย 4 years agoย (edited)ย

Since the Canary Islands are a group of several islands the answer is not quite precise enough. The correct answer is Fuerteventura and was given by slobberchops a few moments ago. Thanks for taking part!

For me, it looks like Teneriffe ...

ร„hnlichkeit zu Teneriffa ist durchaus gegeben. Es ist allerdings die noch deutliche kargere Schwesterinsel Fuerteventura. Danke fรผrs Mitmachen!

Danke Dir fuers erstellen des Contests!

Is that manor empty? The reports I read suggest it is delipidated, but not necessarily derelict. I have been around this location but never noticed it during my travels. - Fuerteventura.

EDIT: the villa is still manned by a caretaker who is said to let visitors explore the space for a small fee.

Fuerteventura is it! Five HIVE incoming :)

When I first learned about the villa somewhen in the late nineties it seemed common knowledge that the owner Gustav Winter was a close confidant of Hermann Gรถring. It seems this is what ignited most of the legends and conspiracies around that building and the role it played during WW II.

While compiling this post I did a quick check on the current knowns and unknowns and stumbled on this article which I found quite interesting (had to google translate it though). Very notable there the comment of a Fuerteventese named Nemesio Bstista. If I interpret his words correctly he claims that the villa not even existed at the time of his childhood in the fifties. Impossible for me to verify the authenticity of this statement but I find it intriguing nonetheless.

Some fake legend seems to have been spread around, or is it?. It doesn't look old enough to have been around in the 1940s. Thanks for the HIVE!

A lonely mansion in such a place is probably too irresistible not to fabricate some legends around it :)

3 What is the name of the legendary villa in the last picture? - Villa Winter

Now you're giving it away!

Correcto! Five HIVE are on their way!

Thank you @shaka

Update: All three questions have been answered correctly. Congrats to @outlinez and @slobberchops and @dexterdev!

beautiful place and pictures

It is the island of Fuerteventura at the Canary islands.
You are at the Jandรญa Peninsula, at the south part of the island and it should be the Matorral (or Solana) beach.
And of course this is the Villa Winter as @outlinez has already said :)

;)

Oups sorry :)
I see that only the second one is not answered, so the beach is Matorral also known as Solana at the Jandรญa Peninsula!

Not quite, Matorral is just at the opposite side of the Peninsula. You're almost there :)

Damn! It was the one I wasn't sure :)

I've just seen from your blog that you are living on Crete. I was hoping to get there for Pentecost Holidays. A couple of days ago the airline finally informed me that the flight had been cancelled. This obviously didn't come as a surprise and yet, I'm still disappointed and sad that I'm prevented from travelling to beautiful Crete this year.

Yes, a lot of people are disappointed this year, both guests and hosts! Maybe you'll be able to come later in the summer...

Summer on Crete is too hot for me but I'm currently checking if I can rebook for Spring next year.

Yes, that's true. Good luck with your plans!

Which island have I been to?

  • Tasmania, Australia

What is the name of the beach where I took the picture?
-coningham beach

-What is the name of the legendary Villa in the last picture?
Villa del balbianello (Villa of lake como)

Let's see how a guess work

Awesome nature ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜
