Where is Ura-Soul? In Australia, That's Where! Plus, My 2 Weeks in A Covid19 Quarantine Camp!

in #travel3 years ago (edited)

Greetings to everyone, I know I haven't been around here for a while - I thought maybe now is a good time to reconnect and share an update from my world.

There was a time when I was very active on Steem and then Hive, making multiple posts a day and also engaging in witness forums regularly. Unfortunately, with the turmoil of Steem/Hive and then Covid19, plus me launching a digital marketing agency at almost exactly the same time as Covid started - I was heavily distracted away from my usual social blockchain activities!

There are lots of people on Hive who I respect and care for, so I'll do my best to post more often now.

Where is Ura-Soul?

Sadly, someone I am close to was the victim of serious crime in Australia and so despite the borders usually being closed, I was allowed in on compassionate grounds. So that's where I am right now, the upside down land! It's quite a trip to go from full-on lockdown in Britain (going strong almost a year) to Australia where there has been almost no changes due to Covid19 (whatever Covid19 actually is!).

On arrival here, I spent two weeks in a quarantine camp in hot/sweaty Darwin and, with $5000 fines for leaving my tiny iron hut's balcony and where everyone I met was in hazmat gear... Plus with armed soldiers guarding me and keeping me inside!

Since then I have been in New South Wales, doing what I can to help my friend and keep the rest of my life in one piece too. It's definitely not easy to do, but the internet has really helped a lot. I have been genuinely surprised by how fast/capable the internet has become in recent years and it is clear that the boundaries of time and space have almost vanished when it comes to information and communication. So I am still in touch with people at home as if they are next door!

As you can see, I visited the Sydney Opera house recently.. Fun fact, my mum was part of the team who designed the Opera House roof as she was a structural engineer specialising in concrete in the 1960s - so this was actually my 2nd visit - it's an awe inspiring feeling to know that even though she has now passed on, she has helped to leave a form behind that may last hundreds of years!

I've also been greatful to be checking out some of the beaches, which is amazing considering I've rarely been able to leave my house in Britain. I would have left regardless of rules but since most other people aren't doing much, there hasn't much to visit in Britain for the last year or so! Since Australia's borders are clsoed to most tourists, the beaches are unusually empty - it's really a good time to be here from that perspective!

I'm aiming to get out and about more in Australia soon, so I'll be posting up anything interesting I find along the way. Who knows, I may even bump into some Hive friends too! ;)

Wishing you well,
Ura Soul

Hey man, sorry to hear about your close friend - sending my well wishes across!

That's so cool about your mum designing the Sydney Opera House! It's an impressive building and enjoyed visiting a couple of years ago when I went. How long are you going to be in Australia for? It's got a lot to offer and have been to a few places along the east coast, Melbourne, Adelaide, up to Uluru....

Thanks, I appreciate the well wishes :)
Yeah, my mum was one of the first women to use computers commercially I think and was really into concrete at the time for some reason.. lol.
I'm not sure how long I'll be here, maybe just another month or it could be quite a bit longer. I'd really like to be able to get into the music making again while I'm here and maybe DJ but I need to get some extra bucks for that as I left all my equipment at home.
I've been here before when I was about 13 but a lot has changed since then, for sure. Never been to Uluru, that would be awesome - not sure if I can make it this time but I'll keep an open mind!

How are things with you? Still busy producing? I'm just listening to Ram records' 2021 mix.. Absolutely top quality :)

Ah 1 month isn't that long but still enough to enjoy a bit of what Aus has to offer! Hope you can share some tales of where you're at - wouldn't mind living vicariously!

I'm still producing, probably not as much these days but still sharing my tunes. Things outside of HIVE are set to take over this week and possibly for the foreseeable future so I'll be looking for zoning out with the latest vibes the dnb scene can throw at me! And that mix is pure fire!

I was originally aiming to stay until June but we'll see - I definitely would like to travel a bit.
Glad to hear you are still making music to some extent, I'm thinking about focusing on DJing when I can here so that I don't lose touch.. Will definitely be grabbing a couple of those RAM tunes :)

Ooohh that will be a pure fire set with a couple of RAM tunes in!

Welcome, mate, I'm a short jump to the left, in Adelaide. You here for a while then?

Thanks! My plans aren't exactly clear at the moment, there are so many plates to keep spinning and so many different factors involved. Technically I could be forced to leave Australia in 4-8 weeks, but may be able to extend that. I have so far only been in and around Sydney but planned to travel up to QLD for a bit to check that area out as the South gets colder. I'd really like to do a tour of the whole of Australia, but that's far from practical right now!

I'll keep you posted once I know more myself. How is life in Adelaide? I don't recall knowing that that's where you are located before. :)

Adelaide's good. Fairly small compared to the cities on the East coast, but good great place to raise kids. Pretty much everything I've seen of Queensland is lovely.

OK, I see - I did land in Adelaide when I visited as a teenager and saw the size, but not much else. I realised that Sydney is about 25% bigger than London - way bigger than I thought it was! Never been to Queensland, so definitely up for a trip there. It would be great to loop all around the coast of Australia, but I think that might be pushing my time and funds! ;)

There are a lot of long empty stretches there. If you love solitude, absolutely.
Don't go South, Melbourne is pointless. If you don't mind it chilly, by all means fly straight over and do Tasmania. That's beautiful. Up to Queensland is probably your best bet.
Enjoy your stay, mate.
