Wednesday Walk: Auspicious Chinese New Year Decorations at Suria KLCC Mall

During every festive season, one of the things that city people love to do is to visit malls in order to take photos with the festive decorative items. Those photos are usually considered social-media worthy, and some may even make it a goal to visit as many malls as possible to collect those photos.

We are still in the midst of Chinese New Year, to be exact, today is Day 11. Therefore, it is timely for me to bring you for a walk on this #WednesdayWalk post to Suria KLCC Mall to see the Chinese New Year's decorations. We came here 2 weeks ago to join the fun. Let's walk with me!

Suria KLCC Mall Chinese New Year Decorations

Location: 241, Petronas Twin Tower, Kuala Lumpur City Centre, 50088 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.

The decorations is at the Concourse Floor, at the centre of it all. We were greeted by a Chinese New Year entrance at another side as well before we reached the center of the Concourse Floor.

When we reached the Concourse Floor, there was another entrance too. So many people took photos here, we got to wait for our turn patiently. It was rather crowded that day. All I saw was red here, red there, red everywhere. For Chinese New Year, red means luck, good fortune, celebrations and vitality, even has the power to chase away bad luck and evil powers. So it is normal for CNY decoration to be in red.

Fishing at river

Then, we entered the section and saw many children fishing at digital pond. Haha. My husband was making a joke with my sons, saying that he wondered would the future generations know how real river looks like? I told him we would ensure the knowledge of being in the nature be passed down to our children and they pass down to their children too. I was actually looking forward to camping trip with my husband and children.

Apparently, the children were fishing for fish and some blessings words. And if you got it, the screen would show you some surprise gift to be redeemed.

Chinese ancient building/home

Next, we saw a 'building' which built according to ancient Chinese buildings and all the inside furniture also looked like those ancient times. Quite nice to walk around and look at those items one by one, although I got carried away and did not take photos of every item. There were fake garlic, beans of all sort, tea leaves, different baskets, Chinese black urn. Also a table full of yummy food for Chinese New Year reunion dinner, they looked so real and they made me hungry, lol.

Bridge and lanterns

Then, I saw a bridge where so many people also queueing up to take photos. I wanted to take one with my husband too. On top of the bridge was so many red brightly-litted lanterns. So beautiful. I love lanterns for whatever reasons, they made me feel a sense of home. Perhaps at where I grew up, during Chinese New Year, every household had many lanterns hung outside and inside the house.

Cherry Blossoms

Besides lanterns, here were many decorative cherry blossoms trees too. I love love love cherry blossom, also known as Sakura, since young. I loved the atmosphere of pink and I even dreamed of visiting Japan one day to visit the sakura garden. May my dream comes true. Not sure why, I admired the view of the sakura until I forgot to selfie with them.

Cherry blossoms are used during the Chinese New Year because they signify a fresh start such as spring, and blossom also signify a prosperous New Year.

Tanghulu

Next, we saw the tanghulu being displayed and my children asked me what was that. To my shame, I told them that I did not know and I would Google it up. I did it there and then. Wikipedia told me the below.

Tanghulu or Tang hulu (simplified Chinese: 糖葫芦; also called bing-tang hulu ('rock-sugar calabash'), is a traditional Northern Chinese snack consisting of several rock sugar-coated fruits of Chinese hawthorn (Crataegus pinnatifida) on a bamboo skewer. It is named for its calabash-like shape. Tanghulu is often mistaken for regular candied fruits; however, it is coated in a hardened sugar syrup. This sweet and sour treat has been made since the Song Dynasty and remains popular throughout northern China. ~ wikipedia

Chinese Boat

Lastly, there was a boat in the river because in ancient time, boat was the main vehicle of transportation. My youngest son wanted to sit in the boat so we queue for our turn.

Stalls around the decorations

Just around the decorations were small stalls selling all Chinese-related stuff, mostly Chinese Jew Year attires for both men, women and children, tea leaves and tea pots and Chinese New Year snacks.

⛩️⛩️⛩️

That was all about it. We were satisfied just by walking around and taking photos with the Chinese New Year decorations. It was the Year of Rabbit but there was no rabbit-theme in this mall, unlike other malls I saw in social media with rabbits all over the place. Nevertheless, I pray all the goodness to hop leaps and bounds into your life. Happy Lunar New Year!

Wow looks like a super cool time. I currently live in Vietnam myself and here they celebrate the Year of the Cat even though in China they celebrate the year of the rabbit. Who knows why I don't. LOL but I do love your pictures and think it's great work. Hope you do more.

Hi, @jacuzzi, thank you for dropping by. Now, you got me wondering why the Year of Cat? 🐱 'Cuz we are in the year of Rabbit. Anyway, hope one day I get to visit Vietnam as it isn't too far away from Malaysia. 😉

Why is Vietnam the year of the cat, and China the year of the rabbit? It's a question as old as time itself, and it all seems to come down to a bit of a translation mishap! You see, centuries ago in both countries, the old Chinese lunar calendar was used to tell time, and certain animals were chosen to symbolize each year. But when translating the Chinese characters into the Vietnamese language, it appears the cat and rabbit got a bit confused!

Or at least that is how the story goes... 😀Dropping you some hot !PIZZA and !LUV on this post!

they sure they decorate the place so beautifully

digital fishing thats unique I have not seen that before

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks

I didn't understand too why the digital fishing but quite a creative ways to attract the children to get involved at the 'river'. :)
