A visit to the ethnographic museum in Trbusnica village, central Serbia

in Pinmapple13 days ago

During our recent visit to the ethno village Babina Reka (Grandma's River) in Trbusnica near Lazarevac town in central Serbia, we also visited the ethnographic museum located there. At first we didn't know that it was a museum and we were just looking at an old typical Serbian houses of traditional architecture from the end of the 18th century.

On one of the houses it was written, "To love, people must be born with love in their souls."

Decorative pumpkins were hung by the front door. Probably for some reason, but I didn't know which one.

We went inside. There were many items on display that were traditionally used in Serbia in different periods in the past.

My children were especially delighted when they saw a landline phone with a dial that you could turn with your finger.

Also, they could not believe that babies could sleep in such cradles, which are different from today's.

We saw a lot of musical items, gramophones, instruments, an old big radio that I saw for the first time at my grandparents' house.

Irons that used to be very heavy were also interesting to me. My great grandmother had one like that.

There were many items that were used for household and food preparation. Everything was so simple and at the same time heavy and big.

Most of the items I couldn't imagine using today, but there were some items that I found very cute such as a bucket...

Or a small heart-shaped chair with three legs.

IMG_20240413_123826.jpg

Or sewing machines that remind me of hard-working women who, at that time, could create everything they imagined on their own.

There were also some old photo cameras, some of which I remember when they were in use. Boxing gloves somehow ended up among them. 😊

All these things were diligently collected by the founder of the ethno village in order to represent the former life in Serbia and preserve it from oblivion. For some it evokes memories and for some it brings new knowledge and discoveries.

After visiting the museum, we also visited the gallery, which I will write about in one of my next posts.

Thank you very much for reading.

The images and writing are original and mine.

It is indeed, I liked it too. It's nice that they collected all those old things and preserved them.😊

These ethnographic museums around the world are pure bliss for visitors! You get to know a bit about the culture, traditions, past, and what not.. on a long walk close to nature! We have some in my country too and they are always so relaxing to visit.

You're right. In such museums, one can learn a lot about history and tradition and way of life and experience the past in a pleasant and unique way.

I must say that this museum seems very interesting. There are also some in Italy made more or less in the same way, it's a great thing to preserve traditions.😍

It is especially interesting for tourists, because through all these items they can learn a lot about our tradition and history...

It's nice to see very old stuff in that museum. I hope you enjoyed looking at these things. Have a great day! 🫶

It was very interesting to look into the past through all those old items. Thanks, have a great day too!🤗
