Aceh, is a province of Indonesia on the northern tip of Sumatra island, is the only province in Indonesia where formally established the legal system of Shariah, when the Constitution of Indonesia is relatively secular.
Shariah law, or Islamic law is the religious law forming part of the Islamic tradition. It is derived from the religious precepts of Islam, particularly the Quran and the Hadith.
In Aceh, women are required to dress modestly, alcohol is prohibited, and numerous offenses from adultery to homosexuality to selling alcohol, are punishable by public whipping.
It is said that Aceh will be the model for other provinces in Indonesia and countries like Malaysia and Brunei to study and follow, if, to establish Shariah.
But I am no expert in the field, but am interested to study more and to know more about the establishment of shariah in Aceh. Would love to hear more from fellow Steemians right in the epicenter of the province! Upvote and comment below of your thoughts, I will be sure to reply you and discuss further, cheers!
Sounds a bit scary and not to be right place for Western tourists. What is your opinion on that ?
Aceh isnt really a popular tourist spot in Indonesia, people are more fond to visit secular cities like Jakarta, Jogjakarta, or beautiful islands like Bali. But Aceh could give westerners or outsiders a special glimpse and view of the northernmost province of Indonesia. Cheers!
